No... Do not want a watch that works directly with a cellular network. If one is ever offered where a cellular connection is required, I will not be buying - do not want the accompanying adverse consequences (more $ to my cellular carrier, less battery life, etc).

99+% of the time my iPhone is with me or close by and that works great with my Watch. Have had it for around 9 months now and it has been on my wrist at least a dozen hours every day. One of my best purchases. I initially bought it to see what it was about first-hand, but thinking it probably wouldn't be all that useful and I'd be sending it back within the return window. Was sure wrong about that!

Mostly it's not a watch. To see what time it is, isn't the most used feature at all.
Why should it be round? Do you want to read your messages, notifications etc. in circles? :D
Pretty sure John would want to read his messages just like this::D

And yet, in the twisted imagination of forum commenters and pundits, the Apple Watch is a flop. Far from that. It's version 1.0, go have a coffee and imagine v. 4.

I think the difference is the original iphone was restricted to one US carrier so only a portion of the population could buy it, and it was insanely expensive compared to other similar products. Those are two critical factors that were working against the original iphone, that do not apply to the Apple Watch, and the amazing is the iphone succeeded in spite of those barriers. The Apple Watch is sold to everyone, there is almost no restriction, and it's priced comparably to alternative smartwatches.

I agree that version 4 is fun to imagine, and I'm sure it will be much better.

Or maybe not as there are allready offers available that share one data plan over 2 devices.
Perfect solution would be 2 devices on just 1 celluar number, so one would get calls on the watch if the phone isn't near.
It appears T-Moblie offers something like that for $5/month with the new Samsung Watch. If the Apple Watch could let me take phone calls operate from my iPhone on the same number and use a bluetooth earpiece I'd be sorely tempted. I'd probably wind up wearing one on my right wrist and a real watch on my left.

There is no way this will happen. The iPhone will last for days on standby with just wifi, turn on LTE or any cellular radio and it will die in less than 24 hours. The Apple Watch battery is a fraction of the size, and they are supposedly making it thinner for gen 2.

If the AW2 requires an additional data plan, I still better be able to piggyback off of the 15GB w/rollover plan I currently have with AT&T. No way am I paying an additional fee to have my AW added to my plan along with the two iPhone's currently on it.

I know it's too early to speculate, but I'll hold on to my AW if this is the case.
It'll at least be a +$10/mo addon.

That doesn't make it independent, and it doesn't need to be anyway.

The only thing the Apple Watch needs is to be faster. And maybe, in a future model, larger.
Lol. None of those IMO.
Make the watch battery last much more than what it lasts now.

Nowhere near 90%, and nowhere near as nicely.

Like how the iPhone has evolved battery life?
No... they just get thinner.

Maybe they could include a battery that lasts longer than 1.5 days ...

Bought a Pebble a couple of weeks ago. It does 90% of what the Apple Watch does, costs a fraction and has a battery that lasts a week. And they don't exclude devs from accessing all the features.
I don't think charging the watch at night when I sleep is a problem, pity the pebble watch us pot ugly , well in my eyes

You people make me laugh. A round smart watch is not a good idea functionally. Be honest, if it were round you'd consider buying one and then stop yourself to complain about something else.
Personally, I agree with you, but I really don't care for the current square iteration of the Apple Watch. I can't quite put my finger on why I don't like the design or why a round face does seem aesthetically more pleasing. This coming from someone who owns a square Fossil watch right now.

i don't believe this is rumor. I've been using an Apple Watch for about 6 months and don't see any advantage in it having its own cellular radio. The apps you can do in this space don't have a lot of information so relying on the iPhone for that info makes a lot more sense then adding the cost, weight, battery drain, etc.. for adding a cellular radio to it. I think users would rather see it get thinner and/or have better battery life and speed, than to be totally independent from the iPhone.

I just don't ever see this being a hugely popular product.
To be honest I thought the same but wasn't sure so I bought one love it for my uses anyhow I enjoy it , does stop me pulling out the phone every two mins when a text or email comes in ,expensive yes but show me a Apple product that isn't

I'm not sure the technology and battery life are there for a good cellular Apple watch yet. I would be happy to be proven wrong, but I don't see this happening any time soon. Unless Apple has a great surprise advancements up it's sleave technology-wise.

Agreed, And... Oh no, another antenna gate. I touched the crown and case at the same time dropping my call. :(

Huh ???

"Standby" does imply being connected to cellular and even my old 5 gets along several days that way (less if I actually use it offcourse).

Also cellphones in watchformat allready existed 10 (or more) years ago, so I don't think taking a call on your iWatch_V2 should put any stress on the battery. What does need to be done is getting those things more effecient as in doing such basic tasks without needing massive CPU and thereby power.
