Apple Watch 2 Said to Feature FaceTime Camera, Expanded Wi-Fi Capabilities and New Models

Hmmmm - my Omega Automatic I got from my dad is 50 years old - and still working (with an overhal here and there). Good to go for another 50 years and strangely doesn't feel out of date like the Apple watch will be - every year.
Granted, it only shows time and date, but isn't that the purpose of a watch? Maybe Apple should rename it into "personal infometer" or something instead of "watch"...

I think this is a mistake. What about those people who spent $10K on the first generation Apple Watch? They get obsolete just like that? Apple Watch 2 should come out in 2018. People are still finding about its existence. At the end, it's just a watch, not a smartphone which we need to be buying every now and then.

First of all, the type of people who paid 10k+ on Apple Watch 1 are not the type to care about knowing a new model would probably come out in a year. Regardless, they'll buy that one too.

Second, what idiot actually thinks Apple wouldn't release a new version of a product within 12-18 months, because you know, <sarcasm> it's not like they do that WITH EVERY OTHER PRODUCT THEY SELL. </sarcasm>

I can see why a camera may be useful for apps like Snapchat, but seriously, who wants to take a FaceTime call on their watch? Hold your arm up to face-level for 30 seconds and see how it feels, and now imagine talking to someone for minutes like that. Madness.
I take it you never watched knight Rider or seen Batman Forever 'No sir the 'other' car'

FaceTime camera - why not?
1) when loading / placed on a charger as pictured on top, calls could be made "endless"
2) for a kind of face recognition / authentication … ?

I don't know :D

Facetime on the Watch seems pretty impractical. Maybe Apple has something creative though.

Bad news for the early adopters.
Why? I'll have all the functionality of an Apple Watch for at least a year before the new one comes out, and if I want, I can get the new one.

Not at all. That's EXACTLY what being an early adopter means. Plus we get to enjoy it for a year till next release instead of sitting and waiting...
Exactly. There will always eventually be a new and better version. Early adopters can upgrade if they want to, or wait for the NEXT better version.

Actually, they would care. Because the handful of ultra-wealthy people I know didn't get wealthy by buying $10k Apple watches, nor would they waste their money on such a useless vanity item. The people who did buy it aren't as rich as you think they are, and will probably be quite pissed off at how short of lifespan Apple Watch will have.

Why? This happens to every version of an Apple product. New version, new features to tempt you to update.

Your are right. But the novelty wore off quickly even before some customers got one. Some people expected a longer product lifetime cycle. It is a pricey product that most people won't buy every year (beside other potential Apple purchases like iPhones/iPads/Macs). I bet a co worker of mine, who was waiting weeks for his watch, won't be happy about the news that his brand new apple watch will be outdated soon.

Hmmm, yearly refreshes.... For a watch... Ugh Apple!

Like time, innovation doesn't stand still. Apple has yet to release a new iPhone or iPad that isn't packed with tons of new innovation. They do it every year. If they can do the same with the smartwatch, I'm happy to buy a new Apple Watch every year.

Anyone who spent $10k on the original Apple Watch probably has enough money that buying another $10k watch is akin to a normal person having a $5 Subway sandwich for lunch. If that's not the case, they deserve whatever financial ruin is likely in their future.

Iteration 1 anything are guinea pigs.
God bless you all! ;)

Looks like folks who waited for Gen 2 of the Apple Watch made the right decision.

Bad news for the early adopters.

That's ok. Some of us bought the first generation, AND plan to buy the second and possibly the third generation. It's nice to have products when they're released and enjoy them without waiting until next year.

I love my Apple Watch, not only because of what it does, but what it doesn't do. It doesn't have facilities to surf the internet, to watch films, to FaceTime people, because it's just not a great experience.

I can see why a camera may be useful for apps like Snapchat, but seriously, who wants to take a FaceTime call on their watch? Hold your arm up to face-level for 30 seconds and see how it feels, and now imagine talking to someone for minutes like that. Madness.

Hope it offers improvements in other areas as well, as if the main selling point is a camera I for one won't be upgrading.

even if it goes away after one iteration, apple still needs to do it. anyone with even slight knowledge of the dick tracy comics growing up needs to see it happen. anything less would be like watching NASA build a spaceship capable of warp speed but refusing to launch it because some people think the ride won't be fun for the astronauts.
