I bought my second Apple watch last year, and had planned to go with a 38mm. The 38 was sold out and I decided to go with the 42.
Having had both I really liked both of them. I'm skinny and have small wrists so with the 42 it can be hard to find bands (leather) that fix correctly, but I'm not sure that it would be any difference with the 38mm.
Long story short buy what you want, I love the 42.
