Health Alert

It's an app for health warning. Since we don't really know much about the health sensors for Watch, this app could be anything (open for future additions) including but not limited to Cholesterol level, blood sugar level, heart rate, etc. based on the sensors within the Watch. Imagine how many life can this feature save if it's working as intended.

We do know that the only health sensor the watch has is a heart rate monitor. Some third party companies are working on tracking blood sugar levels, but that requires a separate sensor inserted under the skin,

Relationship

It's an app for communication through gestures to your loved ones, ie. you draw something of the watch face and the other person sense it in real time.

The watch lets you send your heartbeat to another person. The taptic engine can't let the other person feel a drawing -- it just taps your wrist. It's nowhere near tracing drawn patterns on your skin.

Self Improvements

It's an app to remind you gently (subtly: nudge nudge) at specific time to: move around, drink water, take a deep breath, etc.

Goal/Target of the Day

It's also a simple app to shows your progress during the day (in a clock face) of what you set as your goal of the day, be it writing that chapter of book/blog, 30 minutes running, steps, studying that particular subject, etc.

Apple announced that the watch has a function to remind you when to stand. It also has an app that tracks how much you move during the day, and shows how close you are to the goal. Other kinds of reminders and goal-keeping should be easy enough for third party apps. I expect to see a lot of those once the watch is released.

This will be awesome for all forms of public transportation. In New York, there is now a website you can check to see the location of buses. While great, we have to keep checking the website every few minutes to see if the buses are close enough that you should make your way to the bus stop. What we need is an app to notify you when the bus is 2 stops away, or whatever distance you set. Such notifications coming to your phone would be great, but on a watch it'd be truly awesome.

Slightly off-topic, but those apps already exist on the iPhone (and any other platform). You get an estimate of how many minutes away a bus is based on the distance and typical travel times, which is a lot easier to work with than looking at a map and seeing how far away the bus is. Check out CityMapper (which works in more cities than just NYC) for example, which I think is the best of the bunch currently.

Which brings me back on-topic: CityMapper got access to the Watch before the announcement in September, and was one of the app icons shown on the home screen in the presentation. For me, this'll be the killer app, looking at your watch to see how long it will take for the bus/subway to get there seems natural.

Do these apps have notifications to tell you when the bus is, say five minutes away? Otherwise, it doesn't matter if the display is in minutes or distance. I still have to keep manually checking the app / website to see when I should leave.

Doesn't look like any of them do, but surely if it says the bus is 7 minutes away and the bus stop is a 2 minute walk, you know you should leave in 5 minutes?

Try requesting it as a feature though, CityMapper already has an option to alert you when to get off the bus, so they might be able to do this.

The problem is, buses can speed up and slow down as they make their way through the streets, due to traffic. So say I look up the bus and it says it is 10 minutes away. I check back five minutes later and it could say it is now three minutes away, instead of five, because it has sped up. Or it could still be seven minutes away, because it got stuck in traffic.

So actually, I'd prefer it if the app could alert me when the bus is two stops away from my stop -- then, I know I will get to the bus stop before the bus, even if the bus travels at the maximum physical speed possible for the bus. ;)

But yes, I will put in a feature request, thanks for the suggestion.

dream app

what I would like to see is a project manager app. for the phone and watch that sync with each other. I have 7 - 8 projects going at any time and it would be great if there was an app for the watch that would sync with the phone so I could check at a glance a list of projects and be able to cross off a project or dictate an idea to the phone (not asking much am I?)

Disney Parks
Tap my wrist when one of my Fast Pass+ or restaurant reservation appointments are coming up. Or, tap when a parade or show is about to start.

Mint
Current balance of your bank account, credit cards, and other financials. Notification when any/all activity happens with your accounts.

Airport Utility
Obviously not as detailed as the OSX or iPhone/iPad versions, but maybe something that shows status of your network.

Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, etc.
Manage favorite orders on the iPhone/web browser and quickly select favorite 1, 2, 3, etc. from your watch. Pay with Apple Pay.

Zillow
Tap when you are at or near a home for sale. Swipe photos of the inside of the house right on your wrist.

Flappy Bird
:D;)

My top 4 would be:

  • Google Auth
  • DUO Mobile
  • Disney Parks (someone mentioned this above: would be great for a magic band replacement with the addition of notifications of upcoming reservations, FP+, show/parade alerts, etc)
  • Instagram (would be cool if you could set up images from particular accounts with push notification)

SPOTIFY

CLEAR (todo list)

TELEGRAM MESSENGER

PUSHOVER (notifications app with IFTTT support)

Look, I'm a big fan of Flipboard... But it has no place on a watch. I can see Steam for chat applications or whatever, but seriously, Flipboard? How would that even work? Would it show headlines only or full stories?

All he did was take his favorite iphone/ipad apps and write them as must-have watch apps. There was no thought involved.
