sorry what buzzfeed video?

you mean not sending out review units to any techie even someone like gruber?

Oh know I expect the usual suspects to get an Watch to review. But I'd love it if non-tech sites also got review units (if for no other reason than to piss off the tech press). And I'd love it if consumers were able to try out the watch at Apple stores before reviews went live so The Verge and Engadget etc. don't get to drive the narrative and public perception of Watch.

Good thing the Yahoo Tourney app adds Apple Watch support. I can't wait to use it to keep track of the games on April 24th, oh wait nvm.... Maybe next year though!!!

Same here. How are these developers already on the store if Apple isn't accepting submissions? Are these just Apple's chosen few that they've given special access to?

I'm assuming that's the case. The current stable build of Xcode doesn't allow app submissions with multiple executable binaries (because up until now, the only executable binary was your iOS app), but I don't know whether that rejection is coming from Xcode itself or the iTunes Store (if it's the former, then an Xcode update will be required before we can submit apps with WK extensions).

So app sizes will continue to grow, even if those assets will never be used by the user?

I also don't like it that each app includes all the assets for all supported screen sizes. (A universal app will contain iPad assets even if its downloaded to an iPhone).

To some degree this makes sense. Apps are simpler to manage, but at the expensive of app sizes. Eventually it becomes inefficient to pack all those assets into a single app when only 10% of them will be used. I think that time is approaching now that there are 3 categories of devices (tablet, phone, watch).

Maybe it's time to update the app store to be smarter, where it can package the app downloads with only the relevant assets for the device downloading it, on the fly. Shouldn't be too hard, aren't .app files just containers anyway?

What assets and how do you need to pack so that only 10% are used by the device?

Awesome. Will be cool to see a lot more soon.

My wishes are for Spotify and Voxer.

I'm not sure I understand storing music on your Apple Watch? You can't plug a pair of headphones into it, right? I thought it would source all its content from the iPhone and just be used to control your music?

And.... you have 45min to try them all out before the battery dies.

That's what I meant. I just want a Spotify controller on my wrist.

You can sync iTunes playlists directly to the watch (the music will be stored ON the watch).

For playback you pair Bluetooth headphones directly to the watch... no iPhone needed (so you can leave it behind while you work out or go for a jog).

As for Spotify: the Apple Watch does allow you to control the "currently playing" audio on your iPhone: with similar controls to what's on the lock screen. I fully expect that to work with Spotify just like the controls do on the iPhone lock screen.

What we _won't_ be able to do until Spotify receives a native app is play Spotify without a phone... which will be a bummer... but hopefully that will be fixed later this fall when the native SDK comes out.

Where's CurrentC? I thought that was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread. /s

The geek in me is totally excited about Sky Guide and Dark Sky.

----------

I think I might buy Dark Sky now.

#1 I love their update notes
#2 Seems like a cool use for the Watch
#3 I am a weather nerd

SOLD

I have it on iPhone. Love it.

As much as I would like to like them, the thing is that the people who said "it's useless" was right for now. What a crap redundant pointless apps they seem to be. They really are the phone's apps in a smaller screen aren't they? This is not like the iPad because being folder sized is useful obviously

Xcode needs to be developed smarter. Create a single app file but that App Store can understand its contents. Meaning, if you are downloading the app on an iPhone 6, it only downloads the requires assets. if you are on an iPad, it uses those assets.

The way the dev only needs to package one file as a universal app, and the app store provides you with what you need.

If you want the watch asset or language asset, you simply go to App Settings and download the extra assets.

It's real when you see the developers jumping on this ASAP! :)

???
Guess I'm slow but as far as I know it was real the second Apple announced it.

Nothing I use so no reason for me to buy the  watch

Ok, thanks for the heads up.

Dear lord, not the target! It's already slowed shopping with my girl by 200% to save a few cents. I loath you target app. </rant>
Then 1.Don't go shopping with her or 2.Have her pick out all she wants on the app ahead of time...... I put much more emphasis on number 1.

Dictation, siri etc is stupid in my opinion. Unless your blind or don't have fingers to type then just get your phone out and type is what I always do but I know every one is able to do what they want.
Fixed your quote for you! You're welcome.

When will the U2 app be released for the Watch? Does it have a speaker to play the new album?

#U2 #album #musicLove #AppleWatch

Best quote of the thread.

How awesome would it be if consumers got to try out Watch in store before formal reviews showed up online? I'll also have a big grin on my face if non-tech sites get review units along with or in place of certain tech sites. So Nilay Patel at the Verge and places like CNET and Engadget don't get to drive the narrative about the watch. The tech press already has their knickers in a bunch over that Buzzfeed video. :D

So..... you don't want any "official" reviews to sway people either way? Why do you care? IF you're worried about yourself then don't look at reviews. Life is not as hard as you seem to want to make it.

"It's just a small iPod Touch!"

It's a mixed bag for sure, and I'm not actually looking to buy one, but there's no sense expecting this thing to do miracles. Like the iPad, it's not really about what it can do, but where it does it. The iPad was about the iPhone experience, but bigger for more in-depth interaction. The Watch is about that same experience but much smaller for quick-fire interaction.

It doesn't seem to do a whole lot right now, but maybe in five years it will seem really clunky having to get out your phone to see if it's going to rain, or staring at a map on screen while walking around the streets. Actually, to me, those things already seem clunky.

i would agree but it had to exclude all techie writers
