If Spotify makes an apple watch app, I'm sold. What other apps would you consider as crucial in your decision?

If the deciding factor of buying an Apple watch for you is an app you are missing the entire purpose of the watch. It's not a mini iPhone strapped to your wrist.

It is a means to perform your day to day simple interactions with your phone in a more convenient way. Any app that may come along that is innovative is welcome.

Personally for me I like the remote camera app that's baked into the OS. It lets you use your watch as the view finder of your phones camera so you can take pics without a selfie stick

While I agree with this, it would be sweet to control spotify and do voice searches on your wrist.

Oh I'm sure it will get there. For me the apple watch will do what my pebble watch can't. It will allow me to actually respond to notifications

I'm not sure I understand how this would work. When using a selfie stick, the person in the photo is holding the stick that holds the phone. But if you use the watch, who's going to hold the phone? If the person in the photo is still going to hold the phone, why not just release the shutter with one of the buttons on the phone? The only way I can see the watch working is if you have your phone propped on something or a tripod of sorts. I just can't see the watch killing the selfie stick.

I just want to be able to listen to beats music, send voice messages quickly, ask Siri what the score of the Florida State game is, quickly glance and see if a text or email is worth me pulling out my phone, track my fitness, check the weather,.........all those things the watch is already capable of.

I trust that Apple will do these things better than any other smart watch.

I was thinking exactly the same. Glad it's not just me!

And yes, I hope Spotify has an app for the Watch. Hopefully we can play, pause and skip tracks without needing to get up and do it on our iPhones.

Apple Watch Apps that could convince me to buy it

Exactly. That's why I want Spotify on my wrist.

MoneyWiz is another example. Being able to enter a financial transaction without taking my iPhone out.

My favourite to do list app "Due" would be nice to have also.

That's the idea. You can get a way nicer picture when the phone is kept at a distance than you can at arm's length and you don't have to carry a selfie stick.

It's great that you've bought into Apple's line, but a lot of us want the watch for interesting new ways to control the world around us without taking the phone out of your pocket. If there were no apps I would ever use on the Apple Watch, I wouldn't buy an Apple Watch. You shouldn't try and discourage someone who wants the watch for a different purpose than you do.

Evernote, Dark Sky, and Uber will be available on the day of release. Those three alone sold me on the watch, not to mention calls/sms without having to reach for my phone. Everything else is gravy.

Upon further research you are correct. In order to actually initiate an action directly from the watch you need an app installed. I was more in the mindset of the watch being the reply device rather than the initiator. I was wrong.

I'd like some 3rd party fitness apps. Not a fan of Apple Health at all. Be nice to enter food on Myfitnesspal on a watch since you would always be wearing it.

Spotify and Sonos are definitely the two big apps which would be brilliant to have. Not holding my breath though for them anytime soon, Spotify took forever just to optimise the iOS app for the 6/6 Plus.

I like the idea of alerting you when you're so many feet (or using GPS) away from your phone or watch, I currently use HipKey for this, particularly when on vacation. It would be a great for security, not that it will stop me from getting it anyway.

Surely the Apple Watch will at least be able to skip or play/pause Spotify just like on the control centre?

Also.. I know it's not Apple's hardline of what the watch is for but.. Tinder would be a kinda fun quick time killer.

It's not crucial, but I would love love LOVE if I could get Google Authenticator and/or DUO on the watch. I pull out my phone sevveerrallllll times per day to log in to various things with 2FA. Would love to be able to just see the code on my watch or tap for DUO. :D:D

Yeah that would be great. I think the music app will at least be able to play skip and pause spotify though.

I'm thinking this,
The problem today with selfies is that the front facing camera is never nowhere as good as the back camera, many times I've tried to guess where I am just to use the back camera for much better quality only it never comes out right because I miss the subject. BUT, with the camera as a viewfinder on the watch you can still use your back camera on your phone and get a great picture by using your watch to see exactly where the subject is before taking the pic instead of guessing.

I would love to see apps that will allow me to control my tv via the Harmony remote Hub. Something to control the lights would also be cool. I do not have wifi lights at this time but if i could control it from my watch rather than my phone I would be more interested in investing.

Brilliant!
8mp selfies trumps any competition BY FAR. I actually see this being a very popular feature. Thanks for describing that use case... I too was thinking that, without a tripod, who cares? I totally discounted close up shots!

My ideal list for third party Apple Watch apps (No #1 being most important to me)

1. Spotify (To control music with ease would be so awesome for me)
2. Facebook Messenger
3. Instagram
4. Twitter
5. Hangouts
6. GMail
7. Outlook
