So if I can only afford a Toyota Camry, it won't have a premium feel and I can't enjoy it because others can buy a Lexus?

Also, in terms of the $10k Watch, they aren't charging it just because they can. And it isn't that there's no value there. The thing is made of GOLD, after all.

not 10grand worth of gold.

and it comes with a nice plastic rubbery band. awesome.

The watch is DOA. The price is way to high for a device that not only requires the iPhone to function, but after let's say two years when Apple drops support for the gen1 edition it becomes useless. The bands are laughably high priced. Who in their right mind would put a rubber bracelet on at $10k watch. Let alone buy a $10k watch with a rubber bracelet. For the lower priced models $249 for a leather band lmao. Apple has done lost their minds. This is no heirloom piece, it's technology that's outdated every year.

they're expensive because they're made from Thors hammer.

and the leather is made from unicorn

Actually there are some very expensive rubber band watches +$50K price range. Hublot has several such models. Therefore, Apple is not alone in that category even though I'm not so sure anyone wearing Hublot would put Apple in the same category in the first place. Anyway, it's down to matter of taste. I don't like Hublot watches but I'm sure there are many who would love to have such timepiece.

So am I assuming right that you can buy bands for any model and they're just based in watch size? I thought that the Sport might be limited to just the colored rubber bands, but it seems like you can use the fancier ones with it as long as your watch is the correct size. I'm hoping that's the case. I plan on waiting until there's a price cut and/or I find out about some killer function. I'm impressed with a lot, but that's still $400 for a watch if I get the larger one.

Yes all bands are comparable based on size. Some of the bands cost more than the watch and the 16gb iPhone lol

I've never owned anything for my wrist that cost more than $100, so it's all new to me. I like the changing bands because my Fitbit gave me one of those rashes. For some reason Fitbit doesn't offer third party bands or any other material that would help those of us who had issues.

I'll eventually get one of the sport models, but Imma wait until they go on sale.

No. But it will be obsolete in short order.

Apple should have had the option of upgrading the core watch either with a trade in program or a upgrade option such as the insides of the watch being swappable as on some Samsung TV's. Now that would add value to the product and allow the same level or timelessness to the product as a good swiss automatic watch has.

Huge fail on Apple's part.

We don't know that, for both accounts. They didn't mention about upgradability but it doesn't mean that it wont be able to do so. And we also can't say that it will be obsolete in short order, being short is a keyword here.

I'm sticking with the Pebble Time Steel. $50 cheaper than the sport, you can swim with it, 10 day battery, and you can actually buy third party bands. Watch Apple drop the price next year

I'm really disappointed with this. I might have been talked into paying $300 for a watch, but the models that I'd be interested in are clearing $600. I'm not really interested in a toy sport watch, and I'm insulted that I'd have to pay hundreds for a leather band.

All when I was kind of dubious about the value of a smart watch to begin with.

Say what you want about "quality watches", that's a really narrow market that I really don't want to participate in. Maybe it shows the Wall St. set that you pay attention to detail and have your stuff together but in my line of work it's not going to play like that. Nothing undercuts credibility like dubious personal financial decisions.

Funny, I'm now suddenly quite pleased with my Pebble. It's a little cheesy looking, but it serves its purpose. It shows me the time and temperature, and tells me if I get a text message, without having to pull the phone from my pocket. And it has LaVar Burton's signature on the back, so there's that.

This feels a little like a vanity project for the Apple design team. Sir Jonny has been spending too much time with the fancy folk and now needs to prove he can design things they want to own instead of just increasingly thin aluminium wedges...

That's the only reason I can imagine for a $10k Apple watch-- just to say they've made one. Jonny Ive has now designed one of the world's elite jewelry items. He'll sell you a cheap knock-off though, if you'd like. What color rubber?

It seems like a bad idea for Apple to try to position themselves as a luxury good like this. We'll see how it plays out, but it feels like it's alienating their core customer base. I'm feeling alienated.

I wonder if they were forced into this by the cost of the watch itself. It almost looks like they're selling the watch itself at lower than typical Apple margins and are trying to cover that by taxing the vain.

Very true.

I have a Rolex deep sea , I consider it a marvel of craftsmanship in relation to the movement and also engineering feat that allows it to go 12800ft under water. For Something like this, I consider it worth the asking price, not to mention it holds its value quite well.

Sadly I don't see craftsmanship in the apple watch, due to it being a computer, and it's not even advised to be worn in the shower :( for me it's an over glorified calculator compared to my daily driver

That's not actually true. You can definitely wear it in the shower. I'd advise a Sport band or something that water doesn't tarnish, but with an IPx7 rating, you can use it in the shower. From reports, Cook does.

The one thing that really bugs me is that why does the 10,000$ watch come with a cheap rubber strap? What the hell.

That's exactly the issue with the apple watch. Ever since Tim unveiled it last year on stage, he and the company has NOT, ever brought up mention of upgrading the device or an option to do so. I don't even see the tech spec sheet on the watch on the Apple site.

Where is that information? They usually reveal specs for new products after the keynote.

This was a huge flag to me as if they were trying to divert attention away from that, hoping not to get busted for it.

If they do, in fact, update it every year. They may not.

And the band will last longer than a year. $999 for stainless with link bracelet this year, $549 next update minus the $300 I can sell the year old one with the rubber strap that comes with the upgrade.

Does you iPhone 5 case fit on your iPhone 6?

That's not a good comparison. The iPhone's changed in size, but it is less likely that the Apple Watch will change in size over the years (unless people's wrists get bigger or smaller in the future).

It is likely that Apple will keep with the 38mm and 42mm sizes. I would think that the bands would only not be compatible with future releases if they alter the thickness of the watch significantly or change the design of the attachment.

Personally I think allowing the users to keep the bands from year to year would be more palatable, and would improve the likelihood of people upgrading they Apple Watch each year.

Fair enough , let's see how hey go once people start receiving them. For what it is , it just needs to be water resistant.
