Walmart? Target? Sam's Club? -- Just think, with a product like this, they will put them in every department store and jewelry store in America...more units being produced for more store coverage.

Apple is already there and has a bigger piece of the stores like Walmart than the whole watch section where this overprice watch has to compete for space.

A Flop

Sorry to say but the Apple Watch will be a monumental flop.
Maybe worth another look if some APP developer comes up with something phenomenal.

I am in the boat with you.

I haven't worn a watch in years and this doesn't interest me at all.

They will sell a few but it isn't the next Iphone, iPod or iPad.

Build a better iPad mini and I am in line.

I also haven't worn a watch in years, but I really want to try this thing out.

I want to get one for my girlfriend and do that sending of heartbeats and drawing stuff instantly on her wrist - the ultimate geek romantic toy kinda thing.

I don't think any of us can really make definite negative predictions. I remember people not wanting a phone without buttons very clearly.

Who knows what coolness will develop from Apple watch workflows? There may be a killer app that makes more people realize they want it. It's loaded with cool sensors, that appeals to me!

cellphone makers - are just trying for dear life to create a new category that nobody cares for.

Apple has failed :apple:

Apple didn't create the Smartphone trend. Same goes for the smart watch trend. Sure other companies have had their hand at it. Same went for smartphones. Apple is late in the smart watch game but no one is really profiting off smart watches just yet anyway.

40 million units? That seems like really excessive.

If they sold that many in a year it would be 3x as many iPads as were sold in their first year.

It does sound like a lot, but maybe they better make em.

How many iPhones are out there in total that can work with Apple Watch? Are there 500 million iPhones out there? or more? I don't even know.

Figure one in 10 iPhone people get an Apple Watch - could be reasonable.

The main thing I just thought about is that I hope they release it in late January. It would be a killer Valentines gift.

I think the delays probably had to do with the failed sapphire but I'll betcha the Apple watch will be release with Gorilla glass and not sapphire.

Can we wait for the product to launch before declaring it a failure?

Didn't apple start work on this in 2011, before th smart watch trend?

Lastly, even if they make a product that fails, it's better than them being too scared to do anything new, for fear it will fail.

So who's gonna be the first one to buy 99 of these to propose to their girlfriend?

Hard to believe that Apple is trying to produce a product that they've announced they are trying to produce. MR brings great insight.

My take is the Apple Watch is going to be a huge rush of early adopters and apps in the store. A few will pay off their mortgages with this platform.

I'm quite curious to see how a social significance of wearing an Apple Watch will come about. I hope it does not create "gl*******" phenomenon.

So who's gonna be the first one to buy 99 of these to propose to their girlfriend?

I know a girl who's boyfriend took her to Vegas and he had a half dozen of his friends roll out a tarp that said, "Will you marry me?" in a parking lot as they looked form a third floor balcony.

She said no.

They got into a huge fight. She left the hotel room. She called her parents and they paid for a room so she could keep away from him for the rest of the time there. They even bough her a plane ticket for her to fly out without him. Needless to say they broke up.

She found the right man three years later and are now happily married.

I care so your claim is false.

Look at their market share over the past five years and their stock price.

IMO, your opinion is of no value.

I hate this waiting , i want one now :( i've got £500 put to one side awaiting Apple to take it, so have 3 of my friends, and some of their family have switched back to iPhone now because they want the :apple: Watch.

I hope they will at least produce the detachable bands in advance. Imagine waiting so long for the watch, only to discover that your preferred band is sold out. They better build that inventory well in advance.

That would be extremely up characteristic of Apple to let that happen. The marketing machine thrives on the shortage, the lines, the hype, rush, adrenaline and feeding frenzy after release. If everyone quietly got what they wanted with no wait, no rush - they would lose out on news and impulse buyers.

I agree. It has very little appeal. Had it been something much more classy (like some of the "band" mockups shown up till when it was revealed), with all sorts of next gen. health sensors I might have done it. But this failure of a non-feature product? No way... Able to "send a heartbeat"? C'mon... if that's a feature they have to highlight, they know they are in trouble...

That's pre mature ?? Failed at something that hasn't even launch yet? Crystal ball??? I would never say that even for Samsung! You sound like a friend of mine that said the iPad would fail! Yea!!! I keep reminding him of that! Haha! I'll be back to remind you as well if this thing goes viral !

I really want something like a wider band that goes on my arm. Not a lot wider, and also a curved screen. Would be neat to have a low power display mode that could keep the colors on the band at all times like a fancy wrist wallpaper. That's probably something that we won't see for a long time though.

It's possible. Nokia's OLED phones have a permanent screensaver that shows the time even when the phone is locked (eg. N85 or the more recent Lumia 925).

Still undecided on this.... its one of the best smart watches to look at and the UI looked fantastic but 1 day battery life for me is the killer..... its a little but thick as well.

I'll probably ended up with the v2 which will last half a day but at least it'll be thin :)
