The Apple Watch design is becoming iconic and can be easily identified. Why would Apple want blend in with other watches and smartwatches using a round screen? Plus, the current design is much better for information consumption, which is one of the benefits of wearing a smartwatch.

Nope a compromise because of some previous notion about what a watch should be seems dumb to me.

It doesn’t mean things don’t change either though. Keep in mind, Jony Ive was not necessarily fond a of a round design, and did comment that information couldn’t be displayed as properly as it could be with a square design as it is now. But now that he is no longer in charge of the design team at Apple, clearly new concepts could be introduced where we could see a round design Apple Watch in the future. His influence is still important, but he’s not making finalized decisions anymore either.

Nope. Steve Jobs wanted white earphones cause they get dirty quicker and that makes many feel like buying a new set. Its really that simple.
Citation please?

Because anything I’ve ever read has indicated that Jobs was AGAINST white—which is why original iPod cords were slightly grey. It was Ive who continually pushed for the simplistic white asthenic.

Apple just got rid of the bezels. A round watch would be kinda bringing them back. For pictures and text you’re gonna end up with a lot of dead space. Round watches are like ICE cars, destined to be the realm of collectors of classic gear.

I don’t think internal combustion engines are appropriate example to round watches. You’re talking about a historical design versus the transition away from ICE to electric. (Totally different here).

Smart watches are all about diversity, and I wouldn’t put it past Apple that eventually they _could_ introduce a round design to the Apple Watch. That means it will just be targeting more of a market segment for those who want all shapes with the square or circle.

I like your point.

Although, the round nature of watches arises from the need to use arms to tell time. With smart watches you can have a round watch if you want, but it’s more of a homage to the retro function of the circle.

A lot of what we consider “attractive” in a car today arises from the needs of the internal combustion engine to produce power. An aggressive grill, chrome exhaust pipes, and a deep thunderous exhaust. These things are going to go away. Electric cars may design an aggressive looking grill into the car or maybe even a fake exhaust noise, but it will only be as a homage to those who still remember that.

Yes, you can have diversity in modern electronic watches. But if there had never been round mechanical watches before, I don’t think anyone would be clamoring for one now. Because it’s an efficient use of space.
