In my opinion I think they should have done this from the outset (subject to stock of course) because I don't think this launch has been particularly successful....in fact it's a bit of a farce, over complicated the whole thing.

I agree, but this was purely so they could announce the Product themselves with no spoilers. There was only one I believe about an hour before - a 3d case schematic. They did the same with the iPhone and iPad. 2-3 months before actual sales.

John Lewis - okay. Has the kind of elitist upmarket image associated with Apple

Currys?

Seriously?

Watch sales must be desperate if they're selling it there.

It's no different to what they do in the US with Best Buy. Send contained mini Apple stores. Staff are Apple's not Currys in 90% of the stores. There are a lot more Currys than their are Apple stores outside of cities. John lewis only has a few stores.

It is unfortunate they have to choose Curry's / PCWorld. But there is no competition in the UK for out of town shops? Comet folded.

I think this is the reason behind the limitations. In two years, few people will remember this particular launch, or if they do, think of it as an inconvenience, rather than a utter catastrophe.

Regrettably, I don't know the in/out of UK stores, but if they sell them at Walmart, I'd be happy. The thing is, as a product, where they sell it doesn't bring Apple down, it lifts their stores up.

Plus, it lifts up the expectations of those that buy Apple products, those that would feel uncomfortable in an Apple Store, and perhaps will get them in there as well. Quality does that. After a while, that becomes your basis of expectation, and you then use that to compare others' products.

I'd never buy an Apple product from Currys/PC World. TBH I'd avoid buying any product there. I only tend to go in there to browse, and then buy from Amazon.

They don't have a clue and they also don't have the 14 days return policy of Apple. It's normally a huge effort to get any faulty item replaced by them, in my experience.

I've had nothing but dreadful customer service and after sales support from Currys/PC World. Please, if you're wanting to buy an Apple Watch (or anything else to be honest) go somewhere else.
Don't forget that they will try to sell you an extended warranty that is IMHO not worth the paper it is not written on.
Please go somewhere else to buy the watch. I am sure that you won't regret it.

Well then I'm confused. Why wouldn't Apple sell the watch in stores where it already sells other Apple products? OK maybe it won't come to Walmart but places like Best Buy and Currys don't surprise me at all. What's the equivalent to John Lewis in the US? Is it more Nordstrom or Bergdoff Goodman/Barneys?
I'd say John Lewis is a step above Macy's in the U.S. It's not as high end as Bergdoff Goodman (that's Selfridge's).

So I wonder if that means we could see Watch in Norstrom here in the US? Although where I live it would overlap with with Apple stores in several locations.

Don't even get me started on that bulls***! No Apple Stores, no Apple watch.. They don't mind putting all their money here for "tax purposes" but couldn't care enough to open a store! Disgraceful..

You can blame the Irish gov't for their offices being there for tax reasons, they offered Apple a sweet deal and they bit.

As for the watch selling in currys, why on earth anyone would rather buy something from Currys rather than Apple or John Lewis is beyond me.

Great products sell anywhere!

Apple watch can be made available at every corner, but I don't think it will help that much. It really isn't for everyone at this time.

Hopefully second generations will

Not sure if you are being serious or not but the number of people that make over 10,000,000 per year are .01 percent of the US population. If that was the Demographic Apple was aiming at they would have very few customers.

People making over $600,000 a year (over 1 million Americans) are who I was talking about initially. To those people, $1,000 is an impulse purchase.

People making over $10 million a year (over 8,000 United States citizens) is a significant market if you're selling $20,000 items.

Please only buy from John Lewis, they'll price match a bricks and mortar Curry's and offer MUCH better FREE warranties, it's customer service matches or beats Apple's.
I got my Sony tablet from there at Christmas, it was a present, it developed one or two dead pixels, Sony don't cover that, but I went back to John Lewis and not only did I get a brand new tablet swap for swap with no quibble what so ever, I was asked what I wanted to do! It was my choice, and because the price of the tablet had dropped since I got it I was also given the refund!!

Brilliant customer service. They are great for all electronics, especially TVs as they offered 5 year warranties as standard before anyone else I believe.
It's a shame they don't sell custom spec Macs, but they do sell phones currently off contract so again I would buy from them, and iPad and iPods.

I dont believe currys does extended warranties on smartwatches. Either way you can still get applecare & support from apple at the same time

John Lewis and Apple stores overlap as well. In at least one case they are less than 50 yards apart (though you'd have to go up a couple of floors as well)

This is really exciting news. I like the energy Apple is expending here.

EDIT: Sorry. I posted that in the wrong thread.

It will be interesting to see what sort of warranty John Lewis offer with the Apple Watch, as they tend to include free no-quibble extended warranties of anywhere between 2-5 years on most of their electronic goods, plus as others have said they'll price match high street retailers.

As for Currys, now where's my bargepole so I can avoid touching them with it?

The good news for you is that John Lewis is going to sell the watch as well. I very much hope they sell the watch together with other watches, jewellery etc. and not with computers / tablets / phones.

John Lewis will be selling the 6s and 6s+ soon with a free 2 year warranty. I was going for Applecare+ via Apple Store but the increase to £109 has made me decide to wait for John Lewis availability. Besides that will give me time to see Rose Gold in the flesh before I buy.

Best of all worlds where I live. Apple Store and John Lewis virtually next door to each other and if you are desperate - Currys/PCWorld.

To be fair while Currys/PCWorld are generally sh*t the Apple staff members working there are actually really knowledgeable and know their stuff. Well, the ones here do.

Good tip about John Lewis extra warranty cover. Looks like they are undermining the Apple Store excellent service!

Does Apple already sell products at Currys?

i see where you are heading , though let me ask you this, before the AW did apple sell products in highend boutiques ? No.

In my opinion the AW should have always been available In shops like currys, and not just high street boutiques for launch, hence people are being cynical now.

So worst Apple product ever comes to worst retailer ever ? (Currys /PC World).

John Lewis is great though.

And with lewis' you get a free 3yr warranty on apple products as standard
