Hi currently Im a junior intern in a hospital and Im considering getting an apple watch. I dont workout and I’m asking is there other uses for it especially in the medical field?

The apple watch is currently not a must buy and Im considering getting a used one. Not sure if I should get a series 4 40mm or a Series 3 42mm? Im a guy with a 5’10 height. Thanks in advance!

Notifications and Apple pay are main things after exercise but you might want to check policy on what you can wear on your wrist depending on where in the world you are.

Local hospitals here insist all medical staff have bare lower arms and no watches or jewellery.

Other than notifications you may also use the stopwatch function and quick looks at your calendar/schedule. Looking up reference material is probably better suited to a phone or iPad. Keep in mind if you are a surgeon you won’t be wearing a watch or any other jewelry for large portions of your workday, but you can still fit a phone in your pocket (or even an iPad mini if your pockets are large enough).

Depending on your electronic medical record program you may be able to get your schedule on the watch as well as get a 2 factor auth code for controlled e scripts.

Also there is one cool use of Apple Watch. You can test out how accurate those sensors are by yourself, such as noise detection and heart rate monitor, as well as ECG if possible.

Besides that, Apple Pay is a big one, as well as fitness tracking.

Siri for reminders, calendar events and notes. Other apps work in this realm too. I don’t have an AW right now and the biggest thing I miss is a shopping list on my wrist. The watch can do a lot of little things that are interesting and not as dysfunctional as they might seem.

Does your hospital infection policy allow you to wear a watch? In many hospitals staff are not allowed to wear anything on the arm below the elbow.
