I still don't understand how it's going to work. What if we just pre-order on the 10th for home delivery on the 24th (like with phones)? I just want to be able to see one in person between the 10th-24th to make sure I made the correct choice. And I may pre-order two, and decide after I see them in store, before it ships.

Are we not charged until it ships? Or do they process payment when we place pre-order.

When you place an order, Apple will contact your credit or debit card's issuing bank to confirm it is a valid account. Apple requests an authorization, which holds the funds for the full or partial purchase amount. As Apple prepares your items, authorized funds will be unavailable and may display as "pending" on your credit or debit card's online statement.

If you are shipping an item, your card will only be charged after the item has shipped. For pickup items, you will be billed before your item is ready for pick up. If your order contains multiple items, you may see multiple charges on your credit or debit card statement.

I like these rumors of low inventory, I wonder how many I can pre-order on the 10th? I'd like to get at least 2, hopefully resale one for enough to cover the cost of both, then never open the second one. Wait 10 years and find someone with more money than brains to pay $25k for it.

I think you should preorder ten. Sell five and keep the other five unopened.

They don't want people buying and returning 20 different size and strap combinations. Apple has it's customers figured out.
Too many times have I seen people here return the iPhone 6 because they can't figure out what size they want. Should curb the waredrobing fraud that will eventually happen with this watch.

It isn't that hard...

If you order online it just works like an iPhone preorder. You can then make an appointment for in store try-on where you don't have to buy an Apple Watch. But I wouldn't mention that you already ordered one online.
You are usually charged between 1-3 days before it ships.

I think it's crap. If I walk in off the street asking to buy a $17,000 watch are they seriously going to turn me away…?
No. They will let you try one on, and then help you order the exact model you want for later pickup or convenient delivery to the address of your choice.

Now, if they happen to have an extra Watch in the back that is exactly what you want and has not already been reserved by someone else, they'll probably make an exception. They're just letting you know ahead of time that they don't plan to stock every combination in every store, so you won't come in with the wrong expectations.

Yep. Smart move.

You can do that but if you want to change anything on the order you most likely go to the end of the line.

Apple Press Release from March 9th

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2015/03/09Apple-Watch-Available-in-Nine-Countries-on-April-24.html

Now the other question, if I pre-order on April 10 can I pick up the watch in store on April 24? I don't want to take the day off to wait for the mailman, it seems like a waste of a day off and I'd like to be able to go to the Apple store after work and pick up my watch.

That's why I have my stuff delivered to work.

Gosh, seems odd. Well I could sorta see this if, its temporary, and they are facing serious production problems so they don't have any stock (cause this will cost them alot of sales).

"If a customer walks in and wants to purchase a watch, offer the option to try on a watch. Then help them place an order online or through the Apple Store app."

Just reading it to make sure I understood this correctly...so you let the guy try the $400 / $1000 watch on and have them say "perfect, I'll take it.". Then you tell them they have to go place an order online or through the App?

If this is only during the week before sales this seems okay, otherwise this doesn't seem like would be a good experience for Apple walk in customers.

It'd be far better to not let them try it on and force an appointment for the whole deal then let them try the thing on, be ready to buy and then do this "oh we've got them in the back but you can't have one. You have to buy it online or with the app..." move.

Yes you can
"Instead customers must make an online "Product Reservation" to hold a specific Apple Watch model at a retail store. "
So you order online to reserve a watch at your chosen retail store and pick it up on the 24th.
Well thats my understanding.

I laughed...then I felt sad for the people that do buy one.

Not sure if I wanted to laugh at or with you at that point. Probably I will pull you to the nearest cafe, sit you down, and let you calm down a bit?

I wonder if they run a "soft" credit pull on anyone doing an appointment for the apple watch douche err...edition.

I am pretty sure you are not one of the apple watch douche err.. edition buyer, so why bother?

Don't any of you get it? This is the way Apple operates. Create scarcity, make something difficult to buy at launch. When people cannot get something easily, they subconsciously desire it more.

They've been doing this forever. When hasn't there ever NOT been a line, or out of stock issues with a new product? I don't think Apple has EVER had enough of a new product to go around. It's the way they operate, and it works.

Im going to preorder a couple of them online and also make a reservation. Then i'll just cancel one of the orders once I've decided which one I like better.

Here's more information on the buying experience.

http://9to5mac.com/2015/03/29/apple...aled-magical-tables-demo-loops-sales-process/

If a customer doesn't have an appointment they will be added to a walk-in queue and will receive a text message when a spot is open.

Also, there will be a demo unit tied to an iPad mini for those who don't want to go through the try-on sales process.

And there is going to be something called a Landing Zone for people where people who know exaxtly what watch they want can purchase it.

So it seems like there will other options available besides reserving an appointment to try one on.

The title of this piece should have mentioned this is only the case for the launch.

Because nowadays people don't bother to read the contents before jumping to their own conclusion and make a fool of themselves by posting their nonsense in the forum? I agree.

Questionable decision. If true. People, mostly tourists, go in to stores and spontaneously buy stuff.

Nevermind if it's only for the first week.

I'm sure it's only until supply catches up with demand. I guess this means that we'll need to pre-order if we want to be sure we get one on launch weekend.

Well thats my understanding.

Pre-order implies paying for it in advance and I feel like Product Reservation implies I can't pay for it until April 24th, the day I pick up the watch if I decided the model I reserved is the model I'm satisfied with.

I'd like to pay for it on April 10th and on the 24th just pick up the watch after work and bypass the personal setup. I guess I'll have to wait for an official announcement by Apple, if I have to reserve it then so be it because I'm not requesting the day off from work.

My opinion of this is because 1. Yes there's limited supply

But 2. Apple may be doing a personalized packaging of your watch so in order to correctly match the band they need extra time to prepare. So a much likelier scenario is a limited band supply as well.
