I don't use mine for much. Just the weather complication, sunrise/sunset complication, for Apple Pay, and I usually check activity at the end of the day. I honestly just bought mind to have a nice looking watch, and the bonuses of notifications and weather did it for me. I doubt I'll get the second one, as I can't see anything that would really entice me. I don't ever use most of the apps, I sometimes use it for directions, but other than that it's just to use as a watch! I think it's just a nice timepiece in my eyes and I find it nice to look at my wrist and see a nice watch on it

dont you use it for incoming & outgoing calls & text messages?

my phone and _watch_ are on mute 100% of the time, with Prominent haptic on. I really dont miss the awful sound(s) of the mobile phone going off randomly. Safe in the knowledge I'm not missing anything important.

Question from a non-watch owner: can you set it to tap you when messages / calls come in from your Favorite contacts only (while everything else still comes through on the phone)?

you cant do that yet for text or phone calls, it would be cool though. No doubt future software updates will offer this, I imagine its quite simple for apple to do.

The nearest you could get to what you want is VIP e-mails only on watch but all e-mails on the phone, that _is_ possible now, but its not what you asked for I dont think.

I think the mute on both devices may suit you, if you decide to invest in an apple watch.

cheers

which water logger do you use that actually works?

waterlogged didn't update correctly
daily water- black screen

OP this is a great app..... if we can find an app that works as it should!

cheers

Interesting you mentioned Waterlogged. It's the only app I had on my watch until i downloaded the watch app for TuneInRadio. I seldom use Waterlogged and have been thinking of pulling off. Have the free version and at this point would look elsewhere for a replacement instead of buying their full featured app. Can't recall now but didn't like some of what it did. I would go to swipe the screen and it would instead add more water so then I'd have to go and spend time changing that. Didn't feel that should happen.

I got it as a gift because I assumed it was just luxury. Now use it all day. Pleasantly surprised with its practicality. My real-world usefulness list, in order of utility:
  1. Time. I switch faces for various purposes. Never have to set the time. The world clock, stopwatch and countdown timers are handy, more useful on my wrist than fumbling with my phone.
  2. Notifications. No longer need to have my phone out and visible. Don't miss notifications when phone alarm is muted. Can answer calls without fumbling to find phone.
  3. "Hey Siri, remind me to (whatever, when)", "Hey Siri, call (name)", "Hey Siri, open (app)", "Hey Siri, email (name)".
All the rest are very useful because I don't need to fish out the phone or have it immediately to hand:
  1. Calendar. Very handy to have my next reminder instantly on my wrist.
  2. Weather: check current temperature and forecast.
  3. Messages: reply from the watch with short canned messages or dictate a reply with Hey Siri. It really works.
  4. Email. I just use it for awareness of incoming email and to clean out my inbox. Nothing heavy (I'll pull out my phone instead).
  5. Activity. It definitely motivates me. Less back pain.
  6. Lists. I am a Clear convert. Best to-do implementation for the Watch, checkoff, easy to use on iOS and OSX devices.
  7. Driving and walking directions from Apple Maps. Much easier to follow than trying to look at the phone, and I can mute the voice instructions on the phone.
  8. Travel: Boarding pass, flight notifications, directions from Apple Maps from iPhone in my pocket/backpack.
  9. Phone calls. When it's convenient I answer them right on my wrist. It's handy to see who's calling before I go running for my phone.
  10. Calculator: basic arithmetic.
  11. 1Password: check key data.
  12. Tile. Find my keys.
  13. Check my iPhone's battery and wireless connect status.
Fun:
  1. Sky Guide to check sunrise, sunset, moon phase, major sky events.
  2. Music control. I can move around my house and control the music - including volume which is awesome. On the go I use the Watch to quickly see the name of the artist and song that's playing, skip and control volume.
  3. Twitter. The bite-sized messages are perfect on the small screen; use it only for urgent news.
  4. Photos: tiny, but entertaining ice-breaker.
  5. Fashion. It does look very good. Haven't got into swapping straps yet, but I see the point.
Still looking for a tides app that gives correct data in Canada.

I immediately emailed the dev for waterlogged and they acknowledged it was a fault - you need to go in and log it twice if the app still isn't in memory. I'm giving them the vendor of the doubt until their native app comes out. If it's still not fixed, it'll be a poor review given and deleted as its a fairly fundamental bug for a relatively simple app!

Primarily I use it as an extension of my phone, which of course is its main purpose. So notifications are the major reason I got it. The work out app is nice and I use that on a daily basis. That's another positive for me.

I enjoy how when I use the maps, the directions come on my watch, somewhat similar to my first point yet providing more benefit then simple notification alerts.

TrOOf. I've gone ahead and turned my iPhone's vibrations off entirely.

Thanks. What if I turned on DND on the watch, but not on the phone?

well it certianly appears that way. im sure the 3rd party native apps might open the door for some fresh ideas and more functionality.

My biggest want is custom watch faces. I'm talking about the kind where the complications and hands are already there as a layer and you just add your own background to it. Something like this

Yes good point I dont use DND but the favorites feature are mirrored on watch. Also there is a switch on watch to mirror on phone.

So you could just get favorites on your watch using DND and favorites only would get through to watch.

This is something I have taken for granted and just realized it. I hate sounds from phones - i now have my phone on silent nearly 100% of the time thanks to the watch.

I mainly use it as my iPhone extension. So that I can let my iphone just sit on the charger silently when I am at home, and no need to worry about miss call etc. I keep my iphone in silent mode because I don't want it awake my baby, on the other hand, I must able to get call when I am on duty, so the Apple watch is actually a perfect tool for me. Now I can sleep with my watch, keep the phone in silent, but the alarm / phone call can still wake me up easily by the watch's vibration. And I can even confirm the caller, and choose to answer or not when I still on my bed.

Apart from that, the ability to receive real time notification during work also make my life much easier. I simply will never miss any notification. Even though I am walking in a noise environment with my phone in the bag, or talking to someone and totally distracted. The vibration on my wrist can easily catch my attention to make sure I won't miss anything.

The navigation function is good as well. I use it quite a few times. It's so simple. I can keep my iphone in my bag, don't need anything to hear the voice instruction. But just follow the vibration instruction, and then reach my destination. Again, I can do that when I am walking / talking with my friend, but no need to keep monitoring the map anymore.

Since all my family members have a Apple watch, so the force touch / imessage function of course make our communication easier.

Besides, I will occasionally use it as the baby cam. Just put the iphone at the correct place and make sure it's camera is facing the baby's bed. So now I have a baby cam (on demand) on my wrist (by using the remote camera function). Of course the screen is so small on the watch, I can't see everything clearly. However, all I need to know is the baby still on the bed but no accident (e.g. drop on the floor). So, the watch's resolution is more than enough to clarify if it's safe.

I've used it for telling the time and notifications, that's all really. Not sure what else i'd use it for.

2 years on.... as a recent new owner:

Mac unlock
SMS
Time
Weather
Reminders
Navigation
Quick email previews

Its freed me from my phone a LOT. I spend a lot less time faffing with my phone.

I just find it as a huge short cut and convenience to break from my 7 Plus, being how large it is. That's what's I appreciate most, is not pulling out that big device out every single time.

I just find that if i do something like check the time/weather on my watch, i don't get distracted with other stuff on the phone.

I use the modular face, and it has basically all the information i'm concerned about on the watch other than message notifications that i get when they happen. I can leave the phone in my jacket and just get on with whatever i'm doing after a brief glance to see if whatever tapped me is important.

The mac unlock is gravy.

I looked it up and understand what it means before posting back originally. Just do not hear it used that much this far north of you. Sorry if I offended you.
