The watch gets uglier and uglier the more they show it. Looks like something a child would wear.

Yes, it does calculate steps the same way a Fitbit does. But, if you run a few times with your phone as well, the watch uses the gps data and the steps to calculate your stride, etc. So, it actually gets more accurate for those times you don't have your phone. Fitbit definitely does not do that.
You can of course do this manually with a Fitbit (walk/run a known distance and divide that distance by the number of steps counted). What Fitbit cannot do at the moment is to adjust the stride length based on step frequency and heart rate (ie, detect how brisk you are walking or running). But it is not impossible for them to add such a feature, their iPhone app has access to GPS too, to integrate the heart rate, of course a heart rate monitor has to be present.

i just watched the applepay video and was surprised by this. does this mean there is no fingerprint authorization? so someone else wearing my watch can use my credit card on file? not very safe :(

The guy who used Apple pay on his watch. He added a card and didn't even read the terms of service. He just clicked accept. You must read the terms of service. Why doesn't anyone read the terms of service?!

I don't know the details 100% but basically when you put the watch on, you need to unlock your phone once to OK apple pay on your watch. As soon as you take your watch off (meaning as soon as it loses contact with your skin), Apple pay no longer works until you wear it again and unlock your phone again, so it knows it's you.

All I can think here is: How gorgeous a dark theme on iOS would be! In iOS 9 please!

lol.....personally i would have found a slight electric shock when using Apple Pay would been accepted a much more rewarding experience.
