You will not get the Hermes watch face as you have not bought the Hermes watch. Purchasing the strap will not magically engrave "Hermes" on the back of your watch either .....

No one was expecting the engraving to magically appear. It was a question of the digital face updating through some kind of update or redemption.

Riiiiight, but the Hermes face is for the Hermes Apple Watch. So why would you expect to get it on a non-Hermes Apple Watch? That would kind of negate the prestige of getting a Hermes Apple Watch

Who knows. This is the first time this situation has come up and there's some type of connection where the band goes so it could be possible. It was just a question- jeez.

I must be the only idiot in the world who wouldn't pay $340 for a watch band.

And yet the ONLY thing that distinguishes the Hermes edition from the regular one is the band, the watch face and the engraving on the back. Out of those three which of those three are going to be he most visible on the watch? The band. The band which will tell the world you have a Hermes watch.

And of the remaining two, the face is only seen by the user when illuminated, and that assumes the user has chosen to even display that face. The engraving on the back will likely never space seen any anyone.

So basically Hermes, has by doing this eliminated any prestige in purchasing the watch. They are making a blatant profit grab, so they might as well sell the watch face to match -- since there is absolutely no other difference aside from a pointless engraving and $300 the assembled watch costs. Heck if you buy the regular  watch and the Hermes bands, not only is it $300 cheaper -- you get two watch bands!

I doubt it. The prototypes for those bands have been ready for weeks. And you do realize that was only a couple of weeks ago? I think it took longer for the original Hermes watch to hit the stores after Apple announced it.

So no, I don't buy that answer. Something else is going on. And what happened to the rumored new partnership for another co-brand?

What prototypes?

i love the blu saphir band! for me the price is a factor; for now I will have to admire from afar, but I love that color!

I wonder if the apple watch 2 will be compatible with these first gen bands. I have bought a few of the eurolastemer (sp?) bands for my space gray sport and whether the new watches work with the old bands will definitely influence my purchase of the new watch.

edit: Is there not a picture of the black?

I suspect that is an unfortunate translation of the word "Blanc" to "Black", perhaps an autocorrect.

No, we are all idiots now. But honestly, this isn't for those of us that think a $340 watch band is absurd. It's for those that think $340 is pocket change and are high fashion enthusiasts. Question is do those people 1) think AW is high fashion and 2) do they match bands with outfits or just pull out a different Cartier watch like most people pick out a shirt for the day? I think the latter. The Hermes bands are for the posers.

New colours are great. The same absurd pricing is, well, ridiculous.

To pay over $300 for a leather watch band? Why? Was the cow fed angels wings, and brought up in a commune and massaged every day with gold dust?

I'd love a leather band, but, damn, that's ridiculous... And probably 'Made In China' too...o_O

Hermes and Apple. 2 companies getting away with exorbitant prices.
$340 for an Hermes band is a steal. For $890 someone can get a stainless steel with an Hermes strap and a spare sport strap. Sure, it doesn't come with the extra year warranty or Hermes face, but people might not value that at another $210.

So the Apple Watch isn't 'for the rest of us'? Damn. Apple has changed.

Is it kinda weird that they seem to be hoping that the 'richies' will buy one for every day of the year, and gave the 'poors' like us an aluminum mess? Are they deliberately trying to kill the Watch? And just wait until the 'New Apple Watch' drops, and the 'richies' drop these like a bad habit.

I think, for the money, that the Apple Watch is worth it. It's, so far, worked better than any other 'smart watch' I've had, but over $300 for a 'leather watch band', with some 'name' on it?

I was born at night, but it sure wasn't last night... I mean, unless they guarantee that I'll get laid by a supermodel, I'll pass... Wait until they go on clearance after the new Apple Watch comes out and they don't fit on...

'It's just a watch band' just doesn't seem to matter anymore.

The straps are hand made in France but the watch they will go on is definitely 'Made In China'. ;)

Hand made in France by Chinese immigrants? Sorry, still not interested. Now if they were Made In America, by people that live here, and were out of a job because their watchband jobs were shipped out to China (or France), I'd probably buy one, just to support the jobs. I know, call me silly...

No, I didn't mean that AW isn't for all, just that a $340 band isn't something most people can't consider unless $340 is pocket change, and for that group they have a drawer full of nice watches to choose from. They don't need to mix up bands. But also, I've seen no evidence AW is taking off in the high fashion or elite money world. Of course I don't hang there too much, but I do look at people's watches out of curiosity.

I thought people were saying this wouldn't happen. Wonder what changed? Perhaps the Watch|Hermes isn't selling well. Also have to wonder why Apple didn't announce this at the Spring event the way they announced the Hermes watch originally.

This is very strange.

Either that, or Hermes was testing the waters and concluded that it makes sense to go all in. Watches are very personal, so offering lots of different straps in lots of different colors makes sense. One of the complaints I heard in the line when I bought my Hermes was that there weren't other straps available separately (for the Edition or Hermes, at least). That's no longer a relevant complaint for the Hermes, and I suspect Edition owners would prefer an Hermes band over an ordinary Apple band.

Wouldn't they be made by Mexican immigrants in the USA? :D

Hermès have earned a reputation for making high quality (and expensive) leather goods in France so their customers would probably be less than impressed if the straps were made elsewhere.

Except a computer can increase one's productivity, it's not a vain fashion item. Your comparison is unbalanced.

Hermes uses ostrich for nearly all their leather and make it in France. It's called high fashion- not TJ Max Apple Watch.

I think I got what you were trying to say. Thanks for the clarification. I have noticed a few Apple Watches 'out there in the wild', but I've yet to see a premium Apple Watch gold edition. I don't run in high class circles either I guess.

But, still, why have a watch band priced over $300 if people aren't going to buy it. Someone is buying them, somewhere...

Europe? New York? South Beach? Good for them...

Not interested in the bands, but really wish Apple would let us have the square analog watch face. Disappointed with the circular ones, would rather have one the shape of the watch...

Does Coach make AW bands? Might be just as good, and a little more reasonably priced?

I've got a Coach wallet that has lasted nearly ten years.

If anything, I'm surprised how inexpensive these bands are. Hermes doesn't openly sell its normal bands separately (you can buy replacements if you have an existing watch) in order to maintain its exclusivity. $340 isn't exclusive at all. That said, Apple is definitely expanding the available straps throughout the line, so being able to sell new bands to existing Hermes owners makes sense.

I hadn't noticed. I'm not a fan of Mickey tapping his foot, but, it's Mickey!!!

I didn't know Ostrich hide was that thick. Kind of exotic. That probably explains the exotic price.

I'd settle for a thick American leather band...
