The BF says they haven't been told when the reservations will start being bookable. Only that it's the only way to get one in store for the foreseeable future.

And yes the length of time in each slot is so that you can try it on if you haven't, pay and pair. And yes they should have additional bands to buy if you wish.

The only catch is that you can only reserve one model and if you decide you hate it you have to start over with reservations. They won't have set aside atock for you to just change your mind. Given that folks can book from home it's unlikely you would get lucky and what you decide you want is there unclaimed. Or you order for home delivery.

I live a few miles away from my nearest Apple Store here in the UK in Birmingham which is only a small store anyway. Because I had already planned a trip with my friend to the shopping centre on the 24th I thought it would be a good chance to pre-order online on the 10th and pick up in store on the 24th, I know which Apple Watch I want, the SS with a blue leather loop and 2 sport bands (white and black), but now I'm not to sure on the chance of getting one for the 24th if I do this. The situation I had with getting my iPhone 6 Plus was a pain, I went to the Apple Store and they had sold out so by the time I got home to order online shopping times had slipped so I ended up waiting a few weeks.

If that's going to be the case with the Apple Watch I'm thinking of pre-ordering and buying online, but it would be nice to try on in store as its a diffeerent kind of device to the iPhone and iPad.

Reserve on the 10th for in store pick up. That way, they'll reserve the watch for you with a pick up slot and you can pay for it on the day. That's exacyly what I did with my iPhone 6 and it was a breeze.

Does the BF know whether or not reservations will be available in all d1 countries (as you know the information "how to buy :apple:Watch" is only on US site)? And also, will the process be similar to the one with the iPhone 6 reservation, that you choose one online and then pay for it in-store?

Will this be available as soon as pre-orders start at 8:01am UK time? I'm hoping so in order to beat the rush, it was mad trying to get an iPhone 6 Plus I had to keep refreshing the page before I could even select which one I wanted.

Hope so although my experience with iPhone 6 was same - total nightmare trying to get store reservation and in the end friend did it for me.
From what it sounds like on here, might be same for the watch so going to order online for delivery first and then try and reserve. It's going to be 'fun'.

Will other stores like best buy or the cellular stores like AT&T or verizon have them? We don't have an Apple Store in my city.

Based on what the BF says there will be no personal pickup for in store. Now that might just be in the US. But that was the implication they were given. It's order and pay online to have delivered to 'home' or product reserve and pay in store

No he doesn't. As he's a US store that's all he needs to know about and thus all they have been told.

Watch the website, info should come shortly for you. But his guess is that the US style system will only be used in places where traffic is an issue. So US and perhaps Canada, UK, China (especially Hong Kong where there is a lot of reseller traffic)

Yea that's what I meant sorry, to pre-order on the 10th, reserve and pick up in store on the 24th. If not i shall just pre-order online because I dont know how much inventory the stores will have and the chances of getting the Watch I want.

I have been asked to purchase one for a friend too. Is there a limit on how many you can order?

They have been told it's a hard one per Apple ID. That could be for as much as a good month and then you could buy another one.

Now there is apparently nothing stopping you from having a second Apple ID so that could be a way to get a second watch

Apple would design also robotic vacuum cleaners. i'm so fed up with crappy irobot

Nah... they'd suck. :)

I want to get an Apple Watch at some point, but I'm going to wait until after the first wave. (Though I did say that about the first iPhone and ended up getting one on launch day.)

I'm getting the stainless in the classic leather band in a 42mm. For my fiancé I'll get the stainless with the black modern buckle 38mm. How about you?

Interesting.. I really need to see them in person and try them out. Not too sold on the magnetic loop, but maybe in person it will surprise me.

Id say reserve the one you want at 12:01am PST for in store. Then go and try it on at your appointment. From there whatever one you like or try on,purchase that one. I'd reserve the one your mildly interested in though.

I originally wanted the magnetic loop too,but saw some YouTube videos with a person wearing it. It's nice, but switched to the leather band.

After much thought, this is roughly what I now plan to do to (original plan was to let the rush die down before buying, but I've given in).

I'm going to reserve a SS with brown leather loop for pick-up as close to the 24th as possible. As soon as "try on appointments" become available, I aim to get one also. If I don't like the one I've reserved at the "try-on", I will cancel my order and let it go back into general stock (making someone's day). Then go on-line and order for home delivery.

Best laid plans and all that..............

I'll pass

Never Again! Been third degreed burned by Apple's inadequacies to efficiently launch iPhone 6+ on so many levels, that it literally destroyed and crushed into oblivion the first time user "experience". Sorry Apple, I'll pass on your launch hype BS.

How many people will this deter from purchasing it?

I definitely wouldn't buy one without trying it on first and chances are very high that I will not be making an appointment to have a try on session at the apple store.

I do not need to try one on before purchasing, but I also don't plan on buying one immediately. I am getting weaker by the day though. :)

I think someone mentioned this before, but has anyone seen the guided tour videos and the man with the leather jacket and the white stainless steel watch? That looks very very nice - even with the white rubber band. I would never buy a white band, but that just looks good. Maybe it's just how good the Stainless Steel looks? I may buy the SS with the Black Rubber Band and wait for good knockoffs to get the more expensive bands.

Sounds like you truly want it to fail or you're psyching yourself up to believe that it will, while in the back of your mind you know that it won't. :p

What gave u the idea it will fail ? I never said that.. And i never assumed it would neither... It's just anything u must have something else with u in order to make any real use of it, as apposed to a non-Apple user ordering an Apple Watch only online, or maybe soon to be walking into an Apple store to pick up an Apple watch only (when u can), then it will be limited to what its capable of without an iPhone...

That's all i'm saying... and with that will clearly come a direction of those that must have an later model to use a Apple watch effectively, who's going to upgrade their ipod Touch just because they want to use a watch ??

Like every major Apple does? What does that mean??

its a typo.. don't worry about it :D

Where was this information sourced from?

My boyfriend works at a major store on the West Coast and that is what they were told. But as I said, there is nothing stopping someone from having 20 apple IDs and ordering 20 watches.

If you mean the Milanese loop, the BF saw one last night. He worked his stores overnight to prep all the demo units to put out tonight. He said it's actually really nice. The chain is smaller than it looks on the site.

Convoluted. There is time during a pickup to try on your choice. You dont really need to do both. If you are okay with having it shipped then get on tonight and book a try on. Then just order it. If you have the Apple Store app set up you could fav your top 3-4 choices and it will be easy as pie to just finalize one of them before you even walk out of the store. Yes it is possible you won't get it on the 24th but what's a couple more days wait. It's just a watch after all
