What I still don't get is that Apple already has all of our hundreds of millions of credit and debit cards linked to our iTunes and Apple ID accounts, yet they want us to manually jam their servers at the stroke of midnight or 3AM to place an order they know we already want.

We're automatically billed for our monthly subscriptions to iCloud, iTunes Match, in-App Purchases, Newsstand, etc. So, how about this? Just make a button next to the product's favorite ("heart") button that says, "yes, I like this product enough for you to automatically charge my credit card and preorder or ship it to me as soon as it's available." No more waiting up until 3AM EDT, or queuing up on line the night before at the local Apple Store. Automate the process and give us an preorder confirmation email we can wake up to.

Is Apple still so insecure that they need to generate media headlines that "lines are out the door" and "the servers couldn't handle the capacity" of everyone trying to place online orders? If Apple is all about the positive customer experience, having to go through this periodic ritual can't be a totally positive experience for everyone.

Frankly, I've been doing this for eight years since the first iPhone and iPad releases, and I'm a bit tired. I would appreciate someone on Apple's backend systems or infrastructure to accommodate something like this to be done. Billions of dollars of profit every year, and they still stick to a rudimentary preordering/purchasing process. How much more in profit would they benefit from if they automated their own processes?

It could be kinda like a Kickstarter thing, make your pledge as soon as it's up, and the cards all get charged in one shot upon the end of the campaign. Simple.

You're just asking them to trade one pre-order time for another. The result is still the same - they say, ok this is the time at which you can officially start telling us you want the Watch - and then everyone floods the system all at once at that time to order it.

It would be nice if they could just have an "order now" button that taps into your stored payment info, sure. But just think of all the accidental purchases they'd be having to cancel and refund all the time. Instant purchasing makes sense when you're talking about a buck or two. But when you get into the hundreds or even thousands of dollars, that starts to get a little dangerous.

Isn't it exacly what Express Checkout is? Correct me if I'm wrong.

This sucks..

So if I want the SS BLACK Apple Watch, I'm forced to get it with the SS Link bracelet? I can't get the SS Black apple watch with a sports band????

Just what I was thinking. No matter how Apple chooses to roll it out, it has to begin at some point and they have to publicize when that date/time will be, otherwise everyone will complain that they missed their chance to be in the first wave of buyers.

Personlly I think the reservation system is an excellent way to manage inventory and in-store traffic, at least for the first month or so until supply catches up with demand (hopefully).

Not yet you can't, no. Perhaps you will be able to in six months - but we all know that that doesn't count in the rush to be first....

Actually you can, but you would have to buy SS Black with Link braclet and then buy additional band. I guess that's the only way, based on what we know so far.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I love going to the store. The crowd, the super excited staff, the friendly service. I really enjoy seeing other people enthusiastic about a product as much as me. Also, the last two iphone releases I've made some great friends. We still talk "via Facebook" to this day. I really enjoy the whole experience.

Well I'm not going to be the one ribbing you about making friends in the Apple store and keeping in touch with them via Facebook....

It used to be fun going into the Apple store when it first opened up and a few years afterwards. Sadly, after Apple started supporting Windows customers the place became nothing but an internet cafe full of dwellers and complainers about issues. It's just too crowded for me to enjoy the experience I used to. I live within 20 minutes of 4 Apple stores in Cali and unless I need something right away I steer clear. Even going there in the morning when they first open up is busy. It's like nobody has a job to go to. :D

well I'm sorry to hear your experience with them has changed. I still enjoy it though . Who knows, next year I could have the same opinion as you. Lol

I need to find someone who wants link band and silver stainless get them to buy black model instead then do some trading of bands.

I've found something in the German Apple Watch site's code that might indicate that reservations will be available in all d1 countries.

It looks like this new reservations system is called iReserve (EDIT: I googled it and it turns out this term was also used with the iPhone 6 reservations in Hong-Kong). It also matches the screenshot provided in the news about AppleCare ("iReserve unavailable").

Nope, it seems to be the only option.

I believe you can buy another band separately though.... A black sport band with that would be just peachy :).

Nobody goes to Apple stores anymore, they're too crowded (Dixit Yogie Berra if he was still alive :).

There's nothing that prevents him from just buying the separate band and swapping it out. The sport band is only $80, not going to phase someone who already bought a $1000 watch.

This is one Apple product I could care less about. Maybe I'll change my mind but based on what I've seen it doesn't do much of anything important, apart from checking time..

Rather invest on something else but that's just me I guess. I feel the same about Android watches...

So how long do you think it will be before the reservation slots are pushed out to May? 12:10am PDT on April 24th? Remember Apple is expecting each of these transactions to take 5-15 minutes. Averaging that out to 10 minutes, that means 6 appointments per hour per employee they have assigned to each store. I'm guessing that's about twice as long as the average iPhone transaction.

The Apple store is literally upstairs from my work, so going in early to wait in line to collect a reservation isn't such a pain.

The problem, however, is that we don't know for sure how its gonna work. I could reserve one for pickup, but we don't even know if this is a set in stone claim to an item. We could just be registering our interest so that if they do have them in stock, you automatically get one, but if they don't, then tough. In order for reserve and pickup to be as efficient as we all hope, every store will need to know exactly how many of each model they're getting, a full 2 weeks before release. Not saying that cant happen, but in retail it generally doesn't happen.

Alternatively, they'll need to adjust stock based on the number of reservations per store, so if 100 people reserve a Sport at store A and 50 at store B, they send 100 Sport watches to A and 50 to B before anything else, just to cover those reservations.

The only thing we know for definite is that preordering quick enough online come April 10th will guarantee you day one delivery. I would love to waltz into the Apple store on April 24th then walk out with an Apple watch, but the safer play is to refresh like crazy when the online store goes live, and suck up the fact you'll have to wait a few extra hours on day one, compared to the people who get it at 9am but have to queue from 6.

I don't see any point in having a "smart watch", Android, Apple or MS, but I'm sure that fanboys and hipsters with more $$$ than brains will eat it up.

Nope, it seems to be the only option.

To me it sux because I want the SS Space Gray with Space Gray Link Band but for $600 or less... I see that Amazon now has many of the bands at half price for knock-offs but of course, the pictures look identical. I wonder if that is their own pictures or stolen from apple? I didn't see the Space Gray Link but they had the other link band for $224 and the Milanese for $75.

The band cost and not being able to get the SS Space Gray Watch without spending $500 for the band deserves to maybe get some bashing and complaints.

Speaking of bashing, the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was just tested for bending and it broke apart at 149 pounds and even shattered the screen while the iPhone 6 Plus bent at 176 pounds of force. I sure hope this doesn't start a whole new Bend Gate 2 because I thought it was stupid to make an issue out of the iPhone bending when people sat on it in the front or back pockets.

Wow. That's really nasty. I appreciate that you don't see the need to buy a particular item. But is that any reason to insult those who do, for whatever reason they want to buy something?

That's just plain nasty and downright mean spirited. I've been disciplined for being nasty to some members on this forum. It's people like you who bring out that kind of activity. Perhaps the admins can discipline you for such absurd and nasty remarks.

Looking forward to the blowback when the hype doesn't meet the reality on the AW.

And you'll hide your little head if it sells well. That's how it is. You sure are not going to stand here and eat your words. No. No sir. Not crow for nutty.

Not much to read here lately if you're not interested in apple watch. It will probably go on for another couple of weeks.
