Hot water is the enemy of every watch.
I don't take in the shower even my hardcore 1000m+ divers watches.
Cold water, no problem. Salt water, i tend to avoid it. Hot water or sauna, never!

Ridiculous. I've showered with every watch I've owned for over 30 years. Zero problems ever. None of those watches were anything but "water resistant." Also, you can't lump a sauna in with a shower. If you shower and it generates sauna level steam, you are wasting a huge amount of energy.

I don't want to wear my watch in the shower but I have gotten it wet everyday. After a workout I wash it in my bathroom or kitchen sink. Every part of the watch gets wet and from all angles. It's perfectly fine. As well as clean :D

The Apple Watch is rated at IPX7, so showering with it should be fine. The reason Apple doesn't condone it, is because of a number of reason...

First of all, some of their bands are made of materials (such as leather) that don't bode well with water. So even if the actual watch can withstand being soaked for at least half an hour, the strap might take some damage.

Also, the watch was probably tested under clean water, not salt water. And there's also the issue of soap and chemicals used in body washes, which may harm the watch. But normal water should be no problem for the watch, as long as it's not completely submerged over 3 meters for longer than half an hour.

Have showered with it every day since I got it. No problems at all. I do not get why this is such a big deal to people (both those who think it will break and those who are bafflingly offended by the idea of having a watch in the shower.)

I've found it useful, as well. Several times already I have had thoughts I wished to be reminded of which I would typically forget by the time my shower ended. Hey Siri...

It doesn't get into it. Why would it? It's water resistant. What are you shampooing with, ethanol‽

Apple's own Kbase articles mention that you should avoid getting soap on the watch probably because they can damage things like the digital crown.

That makes sense, thanks for your input.

So long as you don't leave the soap on, it's not going to matter. Some detergents can cause pitting in stainless steel and other metals and that is by far more likely to be the concern behind that warning. It's a non issue if you don't leave it on there. Also, it's not going to damage the crown, again, as long as you're rinsing that area. Some people are getting sticky crowns but that's most likely to be salt build-up from sweat or similar things and the remedy is a rinse :)

The bottom line is, Apple Watch is built like a watch and it will take the same kind of abuse that a watch will take. There are so many people coming into this with the idea it's like a phone on your wrist or something. It's not built that way and it isn't going to be that delicate, at least not in terms of fluid exposure.

The key thing is to just keep it clean, and that generally just means giving it a rinse followed by a wipe-down whenever it comes into contact with potentially abrasive materials like some soaps, or goopy stuff like other soaps or sweat, etc.

This official statement from Apple is really confusing:
Apple support said:
Hold the Digital Crown under lightly running, warm, fresh water from a faucet for 10 to 15 seconds. Soaps and other cleaning products shouldn't be used.
Continuously turn and press the Digital Crown as water runs over the small gap between the crown and the housing.
Dry your Apple Watch with a non-abrasive, lint-free cleaning cloth.

Pressing and twisting the crown under water is usually the last thing you should do on a merely "water resistant" watch. So the above advice, from Apple, suggests the watch is more waterproof than they made out.

Why do you feel the need to have the watch there? Why!? Just put it back on after you're finished with your shower.

Exactly - I have to ask the same question.

What is the motivation? Is it too much effort to take it off?

It's a really expensive toy that most of you spent many days and night agonising over the delivery of.

Someone mentioned that they need a watch on so that you don't take a shower for too long? Really? REALLY? Surely if you are looking at your watch to check the time then you've remembered that time matters - in which case surely you can just get out of the shower.

I just don't get it! I'm absolutely intrigued.

Maybe if the WATCH could play videos, people would be using it in the shower more often. *wink* *wink*

This 'wink wink' comment tells more about YOU than other people. I can only guess that means that you treat your body 'like an amusement park' in the shower.

I've never even THOUGHT about doing anything in the shower other than go in, wash self, leave. It seems like it would be so uncomfortable for anything in there.

You have never masturbated while taking a bath?
