Apple Watch In-The-Shower Club!

Exactly - I have to ask the same question.

What is the motivation? Is it too much effort to take it off?

It's a really expensive toy that most of you spent many days and night agonising over the delivery of.

Someone mentioned that they need a watch on so that you don't take a shower for too long? Really? REALLY? Surely if you are looking at your watch to check the time then you've remembered that time matters - in which case surely you can just get out of the shower.

I just don't get it! I'm absolutely intrigued.

its not just a watch ... i use it skip songs on the iPhone. however i dont directly shower with it, i place it somewhere only drops hit it

If you aren't seeing the point, perhaps you need to run a shallower bath...?!

Laptops, magazines and videos are not easy to view (or keep safe from water) in a bathtub.

I guess if your sleeping arrangements are with others, and there is no other sanctuary in your house....

Nevermind, it was a play on words....

The Apple Watch is rated at IPX7, so showering with it should be fine. The reason Apple doesn't condone it, is because of a number of reason...
It should be, because I've never owned a watch that cost over $350 that wasn't.

But IPX7 does not rate it for spraying water, splashing water, water jets, pressurized water jets, or even dripping water. Take a look at Apple's own instructions for cleaning the digital crown:

Hold the Digital Crown under lightly running, warm, fresh water from a faucet for 10 to 15 seconds. Soaps and other cleaning products shouldn't be used.

They don't want you subjecting it to forced water of any kind.

They also tell you not to ever used compressed air to clean it, and to protect it from dusty and sandy environments. This further suggests that this watch has weaknesses with respect to ingress, that are at best inconsistently addressed.

If you can't afford to be heart broken, or can't afford to buy a new Watch after destroying it, don't do to it what Apple clearly tells to you to not do.

IPX7 rating doesn't mean, "Therefore anything 'less' than this is fine."

Submerging is not the same as pressure from a shower head. And, not every unit coming out of a factory has the same tolerances. They just don't. Some can withstand a bit more than others.

And waterproof watches tell you to not press any buttons while submerged.

How many people will see these videos where it appears to be fine in a pool (will it be in a few days? Will the guy admit it was ruined later?) and do the same and press the buttons so they can use it in the pool and shower.

Showering? Take it off and plug it in. Unless you are rich, in which case do whatever your pea brain desires.

It they can make the AW water resistant, wonder if they could make the iPhone water resistant too?? (as long as the buttons are not pressed)

I have lost 1 iPhone 5 to the toilet gods. For some reason when I took it in for repair/replacement, the Genius just said to keep it in the box and they will bring out a replacement...lol

My watch gets wet everyday but I see no reason to wear it in the shower. The soaps are prob not very good for seals.

The genie is already out of the bottle on this one as Time Cook has been widely reported as saying he showers in his watch all the time. All anyone has to say to Apple is they were wearing it in the shower like Apple's CEO. How would Apple refute that claim?

I bring a book with me into the bath literally every time I take one.
Never once had a problem with it.

I use a waterproof bluetooth speaker in the shower and it's controls are terrible. The watch will allow me to have better access to song changes etc. Also I am terrible about showering to long and making myself nearly be late so having the time will be nice as well.

I don't know why people are so worried about something it is clearly rated to withstand.

You're worried about you're shower being long yet you have a Bluetooth speaker for it? Can't you just unplug for 15 minutes?! Lol jk

I actually started showering with my watch recently being that many people do it and theres even a swimming app now for it.. Have to admit feels pretty cool. I usually just do it at the gym though.

Workout + Sauna + shower.

because the apple watch is water resistant, if something went wrong and you went to apple I am sure they would have to fix your watch as they couldn't prove you did anything above the current rating.
