The review I read said you couldn't....
Out of curiosity, where did that review come from?

Everyone's preferences are different, but I have actually enabled more notifications with my Apple Watch. Before my Apple Watch, when I had to retrieve my iPhone for every notification, most of my non-messaging notifications were on Silent so they just quietly accumulated in my Notification screen until the next time I check my iPhone. Now, with my Apple Watch I send more notifications to it because it takes one second to glance at and if it's not important then you just lower your wrist and are done.

I'm the opposite - I have a fairly minimal set of notifications but I agree, I'd love to know where the review came from as it's completely incorrect - there may be other inaccuracies that could be corrected from this.

I've put mine on today for the first time in 10 days as I was out of the country and had little data access. I did have a smart watch on in that time so had probably 80% of the functionality, but I am glad to have that 20% back now I'm here.

Again as before, depending on where you are, but Apple Pay has given my watch a new lease of life since it came out in the UK, and I'm looking forward to OS2 for it's third wind. I'm anticipating keeping this until 2017...

Hi guys,

I am thinking of buying a 42mm Sport Space Grey Apple Watch this Thursday, what I want to know is is it still worth it? Whats the battery life like etc.. Is it worth buying now because there may be a chance we could see gen 2 anytime soon?

Please let me know your thoughts, and thank you!

Ashley

I think it would be totally worth it. Ive had my 42mm SSG for over a month and absolutely love it. My battery lasts all day usually 530am to 1230/1am with two hour long workouts in over the course of the day. And with watch OS2 coming soon, the watch will be even better.

I wouldn't wait for gen 2 since the gen 1 was so recently released.

An english newspaper iirc..... it was called "A week with an watch" or something like that I think.

I agree with all the posts with respect to making it easier to keep an eye on your email, texts, calls... especially when you are focused on other things. It's a great tool for every day wear. I personally never realized how much I missed having a watch on my wrist.

If you are considering it to use as your primary exercise management equipment, I would caution you away from it. It just doesn't seem to have the quality of time keeping, distance tracking etc that you would find in a more purposed piece.

I wouldn't expect Gen 2 until summer of next year, at the earliest. Watch OS 2 however is coming out next month, which will add to the worth/value of the current models. It includes some pretty significant improvements. I can't wait.

I will get an apple watch stainless steel 42mm with black sport band but I'am waiting for watchOs 2!

That's a good choice. Wouldn't surprise me if you found yourself wanting another band or two a few months after you get the watch.

I was pretty against the Apple Watch when it first came out. I thought it was a bit pointless, and very much had the attitude of "What can this thing do that an iPhone can't?" I investigated it anyway, and quickly realised that the Apple Watch would be a very useful piece of tech.

I think we are going to hear similar accounts from a lot of people over the next couple of years. I still remember how many people didn't see the point when the original iPhone was released, or the first iPad. Apple is excellent at thinking long-term when they design their products.

Love my watch and use it so much I will use my 5s phone at least another year or two.

Simply, not anymore.

What has changed to make it not worth it anymore?

As for me, yes it's still worth getting, I got it for contactless pay and nothing has changed since the day I got it, pretty much everywhere I go (except Sainsburys, but they're rolling it out in September) accepts contactless pay these days and it's a functional watch. Not many useful apps out there yet, but that can only improve.

Nope. I don't think Apple has even figured out how it wants users to use the watch. It has 4 different types of notifications for Pete sake. Then some tell me to just open the app on my phone. Ridiculous. Needs more work.

What are the 4 different types of notifications?

Can you elaborate? Personally I think notifications are the biggest strength of the watch, and I think they are handled well. Yes there are some notifications that are worthless on the watch, but you can easily keep those from showing up on the watch. As long as the notification has a watch app, you can usually act on the notification from the watch. Some of the ones I find most useful on the watch are:

  • Meeting or appointment reminders (I can snooze the reminder from the watch if I want, or just dismiss)
  • Reminders to do something (again I can snooze, dismiss or even reschedule since I use a third party app)
  • Text message notifications - I can reply from the watch or from my phone
  • Phone call notifications - I can answer on the watch, on the phone, or dismiss
  • Dark Sky inclement weather notifications - as a bike commuter these are handy
I get notifications for all that and they are completely silent!

Just to answer the main question of the blog, I love my Apple Watch and I have had it since day 1. I will say that you get more used to wearing it so you use it less, but I cant imagine leaving home with out it

Apple Watch 2 isn't out till next April, that's still ways away. New software update next month to keep things fresh

I'd say it's a good time to buy it

Do we actually know a new version will be out next April? :) I am looking forward to new features and expansion on what I have with beta 5 but I like the changes so far but want to see native apps to take advantage and make the fitness part better. Also hoping apple adds bands with gps and other features. That might just remove every negative comment around no gps and limited fitness.

Hmm... What do you think? Is it worth buying before the sep 9 keynote
Yes. Sept 9 is for the iPhone, WatchOS2, and — maybe — a new Apple TV box.

Remember, last year's September introduction of the Watch was (likely) to show it publicly before FCC submission and to prepare developers for the idea of writing apps for it. The date is not a correct start for a yearly update cycle (if you believe the Watch hardware will be updated every year).

Besides, as noted in other rumor/speculation/random-assed-guess threads, the Watch hasn't rolled out to all of its intended markets yet. It'd be stupid to bring out the next version already.

A "glance," a short look notification, a long look notification, and another style of notification that pops up only inside a digital watchface. Sometimes they'll have the information you need. Sometimes they'll prompt you to open an app on your iPhone. Never do they indicate that Apple figured out one perfect way to use a tool of their own invention. And despite having three different types of touch interface—basic touch-screen interaction, Force Touch, and the Digital Crown—the watch still leans heavily on Siri, Apple's voice recognition agent, who remains fairly dense and hard of hearing.

Glances are not notifications at all.

Short-look and long-look are just different parts of the same notification.

What you can do from a notification is entirely dependent on what the developer has programmed, including up to 4 custom buttons. If the developer has not programmed anything for Watch notifications then a default template is used, in which case there won't be any actions available on the notification.
