If I don’t use it , it has failed. If I play a game and lose I have failed to win

In general things that I like are a success, call it myopic or whatever, it’s proved!

Unfortunately pebble was ruined for whatever reason, I liked the watch a lot, it was a conceptual masterpiece but poorly executed hardware.

Needing a watch for health might be fun on the short run but no sane human being would use it on the long run. Health can only be gained non digital, but yes apples Marketing will do anything to make You believe the opposite.
Think you got the concept incorrect. The Apple Watch or wearable for that matter is a way to facilitate your health in a digital manner. The EKG and AFIB detection are icing on the cake and are the types of futures (along with maybe BP, glucose levels, oxygen levels, etc) that could be used in between visits to doctors to send out a warning for something that potentially is an adverse risk to your health. It's not about replacing the annual physical. Apples marketing doesn't make anyone (except for a few who may put a spin on this) believe this is a medical professional replacement.

The Watch has many other features, the article even clearly states the critical feature for most people is LTE and not ECG. Nobody is treating the world as "second class", different countries have very different laws and approval processes for health related devices and features, it's certainly not something for which one can expect a world wide rollout. USA is definitely more svelte and elastic from this perspective than Europe for example. Should Apple wait 4 years before realising the feature to do a global rollout? To what end? The end of wasting 4 years where they can test it and refine it and advance so that some self-entitled whiner feel more catered for?

You are joking right?

The USA a country where you can get sued for scalding a customer who orders HOT TEA , JUST BECAUSE THERE IS NO LABEL “ Hot Contents”?

Apple is willing to release this feature, an amazing feature , for their own popolace first rather than working with the entire world gov ?

Most countries have a MOU with the US FDA and data is shared to expedite the process.

Apple is able to bend over backwards to have a world wide rollout for the iPhone even going so far as to get approval on a specific date.

My question here is to anyone who ASSUMED Apple is working with the other goverment health agencies?

And as you called me self entitled whiner, I want like every other person who bought the Apple Watch for our LOVED one , to prolong the lives of our LOVED one ...A preventive , to detect , to avert any heart aberrations.

The Apple watch 4 is the first one that doesnt run like a dog, that runs smoothly, and is actually fast enough to do stuff on without reaching for your phone.

I disagree. IMO, AW 3 was the first to achieve that, and frankly, AW 2 wasn’t too shabby so if one were to argue that AW2 was the first to get there, I wouldn’t disagree with that person.

Are they trying ?
When Apple releases new product ,it will appear on their page with the words “Pending regulatory approval “

For the ECG , do we have any such note or even a date ?
If they are trying they would have given a date or such right ?
Everything has a timeline ...a due date even.

I am pissed cause this technology might save my loved ones and it is not available because of .....??????
I want to buy this product but Apple is making me feel like a second class consumer !

FDA approval I quick ?

Really ? You do realize prior to approval there are loads of tests / negotiating going on the background.
It is much like Apple can “ hide” the release date of any product by requesting the entire world gov bodies to approve on a certain date to prevent leaks .

And YOU might consider the ECG as a gimmick , it might be a lifesaver for an aged loved one.
You can’t give a date on regulatory aproval. I don’t think you understand how it works.

So it’s all Apple fault for not implementing this brand new feature in all countries simultaneously? Nothing to do with regulatory hurdles or anything else? Just arbitrary scorn on the rest of the planet?

You’re probably right. I mean, Apple Pay just went live in Germany over four years after the US got it. Nothing to do with financial regulators or deal making with key bank stakeholders. Just Apple’s temporary wanton neglect of the rest of the planet because of a superiority complex.

And imagine! An American company targeting the American market for an initial rollout. The nerve!
You may be right, but localized Siri services aren't available in a lot of countries (just to make a point) and that's only on Apple's side. You can agree with me that an half-baked product at full price may appear less appealing. Given that our dollars/euros converted weigh like (if not more) those of US citizens. Therefore the entire shiny "ecosystem" appears more opaque to some of us

And I remember people saying the watch would fail

1-Apple was trying to sell those as a luxury items not gadgets. Remember they had booths in high end designer stores.
2-The first Apple Watches were not as capable hardware and software wise as they are today, so people naturally will change opinions
3-Apple Watch released 4 years ago, its finally picking up. 4 years is a lot of time. To put things into perspective, it was released when the iPhone 6 was still new. We are on the iPhone10S now.

I don't own an AW, but I am not sure how much more features it offers that its worth paying $400 over the iphone that is already in my pocket.

For whats its worth, people always criticise new products. I heard people criticised the iPod when it was first released. The launch of the iPad was upsetting. Personally, I can't believe that a huge screen iPod could make all the difference.

The Apple Watch has been picking up for a while now. About 2 years.

I've gone the other way. enthusiastically bought the series 2 nike version to track my running. 2 years later and the battery couldn't even make it through a 4 hour marathon before shutting down - not to mention the ridiculous time it took to upload podcasts (when they FINALLY made an app for it)...had to break out of the apple ecosystem for the first time literally in my life. yes, proud apple geek, but couldn't do the watch any longer. went with a Garmin for roughly the same price. 14 day general battery, 36 hours of gps running tracking. only thing I miss is not having the watch synced to my photo stream. but I can at least customize the watch face whenever I want with a quick sync that takes a minute.

apple dropped the ball on battery life and can't see myself ever going back unless they step up big time.

It was called LiveView. Really slow but great for notifications when at work or for changing track and volume when playing music from my phone.

Yeah that was SonyEricsson's 3rd/4th generation ... really the early innovators of smart-watches and the first to have apps available for smartwatches albeit their own platform, until they made android based smartwatch and it's been downhill since. Sad really.

Well from Apple actions, it seems so.

And for any anyone interested , I have asked the my country “FDA” and they said they have never received any application by Apple to enable ECG. Following up and trying to be through , since bureaucracy works in layers.

PERHAPS others in their own respective countries can approach their own gov bodies to ask?

Hello ,

I have
Apple ALWAYS has staged rollouts world wide on EVERY MAJOR product.. what do you mean Apple was never like this?! They never release their phones for example on the same day world wide. Why? Presumably supply constraints and the huge effort it takes to release tech into different countries.

Don't disparage Apple because the world is fragmented into different countries and different regulations. That is not a condition Apple created. And don't disparage Apple for being a business and going to where the markets are first. They no doubt do a profit calculation that leads to their decisions.

Don't do this loved one heartstring pull...that has nothing to do with this. Do you really think Apple would not enable the feature it if they legally could? and if not legally, then who is blocking it? Do you have any knowledge of the regulatory requirements of a medical device in your country? I can tell you they vary widely, almost always set a high bar with required clinical studies so as to not always be affordable. You have to balance profit with cost to market.

I own the AW4, I suppose I can check my EKG, and never have. I go to a doctor and get that done with multi-lead analysis. Any doctor will tell you one lead EKG's just aren't that reliable. Please, by all means, take your loved ones to the doctor if you suspect anything, or even if you don't! Better to check right?

I work for a medical device company. I assure you it just not as simple as you think. And it's VERY dependent on the local regulations. Some countries are just not worth the effort because of restrictive practices. This was Apple's first foray into needing these kind of approvals. I imagine in the years to come they will get the expertise to add more countries, as they seem to be positioning themselves as a health company... but to keep suggesting this is a trivial effort and that your country is being excluded because they are second class.... is just non informed mud slinging.

Hello,

First off APPLE DID ROLL out the IPhones almost worldwide and for those countries that were not in the first batch were GIVEN DATES.

As for your “ don’t do this loved one string” , you mean you buy it for FUN ?
Really, then perhaps you don’t understand the importance of such a PORTABLE DEVICE for the safety of a LOVED ONE.
Seriously do you buy such an expensive ( maybe for you it is cheap) for your enemies?
Why would I bother if the device does not a MAJOR impact for me or my family ? To be slandered in th Apple forum just for fun?

And i hope this sentence make it clear, I HAVE ASKED MY GOVERMENT , HSA , appropriate Body governing this “medical” device and they replied.... APPLE DID NOT REGISTER for the ECG APLLICATION.

Will be following up this matter, this matter need to be highlighted and brought forward.

I would appeal to every forummer in whose country that do not have ECG function, ask your gov body!
Let find out the truth !
