Correct the apple Watch does not have a native Whatsapp app, the iphone does, THAT IS THE FACT. Service/device does not matter bottom line is, its not present on the AW.
But could you please explain why Apple should have it on their website that those apps don’t produce an AW app. It’s not really any of Apple’s concern how other companies operate

Read the OP please. I do not say Apple have to tell this on their website. Let`s not imply anything but just post facts please.

Yes and you are implying, that accordingly to me, apple should put this on their website.. Which i never implied or said.. Again, keep it on the topic.

So you said in your original post that your list of issues was stuff not quoted in the manual or on the website and then included the lack of an AW WhatsApp app. Please how am I implying anything? It’s in black and white in your opening post

Hi All,

I am gathering a list of all the currently known Apple Watch limitations that we as users found out ourselves.

I currently gather a list with your help for the AW S0 to S3 and see if we hopefully can scrap some of those limitations with the S4 when its out. This is a list for new upcoming buyers of the AW like myself.

This list is to show as truthfully without bashing the limitations of the AW device based on opinions, so future buyers know better what to expect of their AW`s capabilities beside the obvious advertised ones, and what features in particular are NOT present/working, compared to our smartphones, as that is what our starting ground is to compare the usefulness of the AW.

Where does the AW smartphone extension ends, that is what is being listed here.

So its about items not mentioned in the manual/ features list on the apple website.
(Basically anything we as users found out ourselves limited by apple or third-party in correlation to the Iphone it`s capabilities.)

1: By default cannot listen to video/music from the AW speaker (headset listening only)
(Contiguous design by apple, only calls work via the speaker)
2: No dedicated apple watch Whatsapp, facebook chat apps available since 2015.
3: No third-party AW face watches available since 2015.
4: Photos/videos stored in Icloud cannot be access from the AW. (Only sync from Iphone)
5: Saphire Glass is scratch resistant, but not it`s coating that`s on top of it.
6: 2FA apps are absent on the AW, you still need your iphone for these actions.

Yes you may have a Opinion "why it`s not on the apple watch" but the list only contains Factual information thus opinions do not matter for this list.

Etc ETc.. Please contribute with the limitations you have found, which were unexpected to your believe.

Please contribute to the list and stay on topic, if you wish to discuss other matters, please refrain from posting in this post, and create another one.

Where do i explicitly say, apple should have posted everything on their page, including things they dont support.

i am clearly asking for things that have not been documented, so i can list them out in THIS topic, for future buyers.

Where in your mind add this up to your question, that i am asking Apple to put this on their website about apps they dont produce? for real i am not making this up.

Correct the apple Watch does not have a native Whatsapp app, the iphone does, THAT IS THE FACT. Service/device does not matter bottom line is, a native whatsapp app is not present on the AW.

But someone not making an app for a device is not a limitation of the watch.
It’s like sitting me in a formula one car and saying the car is limited because I can’t drive it as fast as Lewis Hamilton.

You clearly did not read the OP, if this comment was addressed to me.

Plus the comment does not contribute to the OP where i am asking for items that has been discovered as in limitations of the AW, that we might not be aware off as of yet. Or something you found as a limitation yourself.

Please stay on topic.
You don’t own the internet.

I hope you dont behave this way in real life.

Your opinion is not FACT.

...and what features in particular are NOT present/working, compared to our smartphones, as that is what our starting ground is to compare the usefulness of the AW...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you simply trying to identify things that the phone does that the watch doesn't?

Regarding the speakers, just leave this topic if you keep whining about it not being good audio, the fact remains it is not supported by apple to listen music from the speakers.
Calling other people whiners for disagreeing with you is not conductive to a good discussion climate. Also, you know the speaker is not suited to playing music; there's a reason all the built-in Apple Watch notification sounds favor the upper frequency range; that's because of the size of the speaker.

Apple is a company that is obsessive-compulsive about its products and how they are percieved. Letting people use their watches to play music badly over the general vicinity is going to tickle their OCDs something fierce, that's why the feature is not there; they don't like it when something makes their products look bad. So that's why they don't support it.

This is not whining btw. This is not what whining looks like. Grow up, please.

Getting back on topic ... here's one limitation that folks may not be aware of.

The AW does not do continuous HR monitoring. Folks coming from Fitbit Charge devices may be in for a shock when they see that the AW only records HR every 5 minutes or so, except when doing a workout.

Your continued use of the word limitations is what people are objecting to. Let's talk about that word specifically.
lim·i·ta·tion
ˌliməˈtāSH(ə)n/
noun
noun: limitation; plural noun: limitations; noun: limitation period; plural noun: limitation periods
  1. 1.
a limiting rule or circumstance; a restriction.
    "severe limitations on water use"
    synonyms: restriction, curb, restraint, control, check;
    bar, barrier, block, deterrent
"a limitation on the number of guests"
    antonyms: increase
    • a condition of limited ability; a defect or failing.
"she knew her limitations better than she knew her worth"
synonyms: imperfection, flaw, defect, failing, shortcoming, weak point, deficiency, failure, frailty, weakness, foible
"he is aware of his own limitations"
      antonyms: strength
    • the action of limiting something.
"the limitation of local authorities' powers"
That second bullet is the source of contention here. By calling these things "limitations" of the Apple Watch itself, that's akin to saying they are defects, failings, deficiencies, etc. Again, of the Apple Watch itself, as if they are a flaw needing a revision of the product itself in order to correct. By calling out a single missing THIRD-PARTY app and then labeling that a "limitation" of the Apple Watch you are saying that there is something that needs to change about the Apple Watch, not that third-party app. The concept of creating such a list is certainly a fair thing to do, though I question its value in the context of this forum. What I find most objectionable about your list in general is that it takes items that are beyond the control of Apple and classifies them as fundamental product flaws. That is where your list leaves the realm of fact and enters the realm of opinion.
I love that people really try to defend their opinions with nail and tooth here.

- Regarding the speakers, just leave this topic if you keep whining about it not being good audio, the fact remains it is not supported by apple to listen music from the speakers. I elborated already where i come from on this point.

- The fact people disregard whatsapp and other major chat apps, is just dumb, most of those complainers here have it themselves on their iphone. There is no excuse for not having a dedicated version of whatsapp for the AW.. they are for every other mobile apple platform, the AW sells well enough. This is not a apple problem, and people miss-read into my OP to interpertate their own trolling agenda here, that is NOT what i mean with not shown on the apple site..
I believe you will find that I did not disregard whatsapp at all. In fact I said that it was unfortunate that the app is not available for the Apple Watch. My only objection is labeling this a limitation/flaw of the Apple Watch and NOT a limitation of Whatsapp.
For lots of people its a expectation that major apps are also available for the AW itself but its not.
This is a opinion on its own yes, but whatsapp/facebook is part of our society as we know it these days, its a very real part of our online communication lines.
Again, why is this a limitation of the Apple Watch instead of whatsapp? Whatsapp is owned by Facebook. Facebook Messenger does have a watch app. So clearly the talent exists within Facebook to create watch apps, but Facebook has CHOSEN not to create a watch app for Whatsapp. You're taking Facebook's choice and laying it at the feet of the Apple Watch. That makes no sense to me.
Sorry for coming off harsh, but i try to keep the list factual, there are lots of strong opinions here, and the occasional "troll" therefore, i try to keep this topic on the right path as i intended it.
Time for another definition:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem
Ad hominem (Latin for "to the person"[1]), short for argumentum ad hominem, is a fallacious argumentative strategy whereby genuine discussion of the topic at hand is avoided by instead attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself.[2]
If you disagree with what others are saying then state the reasons you disagree with them. Dismissing those who disagree with you as trolls is fallacious and does nothing to prove your point.
Simply because thats the whole reason of this post to list out factual things you can`t do with the AW, instead of lots of people coming here with opinions why items should not be listed.. Because in their opinion this or that reason..

While that has nothing to do with the fact of the matter why it`s listed. Because those are facts, that`s what we try to gather here, factual limitations. Not your reason, why in your opinion it should not be listed. That does not apply for this topic, it`s that simple.

[doublepost=1536299752][/doublepost]

Because, i did not ask for a discussion on the items listed, you and others are arguing about things listed accordingly to the OP rules and you want to let your opinion heard why it should not be listed for other reasons then it clearly is stated why its listed. but regardless you keep nagging, because you need to keep forcing your opinions upon people.

That`s the difference. I reply because i don`t want to get this topic polluted with your opinions on the list itself.

I think the real problem is that people constantly need to have a opinion on anything even if its a FACT, it needs to be debunked somehow with a opinion.
As I stated before, your goal of having a facts-based conversation failed because you yourself chose loaded terminology from the very start. Literally from the very first sentence.
Correct the apple Watch does not have a native Whatsapp app, the iphone does, THAT IS THE FACT. Service/device does not matter bottom line is, a native whatsapp app is not present on the AW.
And if you had stopped there then I don't think people would have a problem. But you didn't, you called it a limitation of the Apple Watch itself. I've already stated my reasons why this is problematic. Again, you're the one who chose this loaded language, not us.

I think as Apple Watch users/owners, we are SO lucky, if I had a Garmin, or Suunto, or Polar, I would have to search through hundreds of posts to find, or accumulate all the things that upset their owners, here, at "Apple", we have it all in one concise thread. (Sarcasm=off)

one thing that annoys me is not being able to stream Pandora or Spotify from the cellular apple watch
so another words its locked to apple music- basically costs 24.00 more a month to have that feature.

open it to other streaming apps

I never even considered that, there was the uproar around the HomePod being mostly tied to Apple Music I had never even considered the watch.
24 more a month though, what currency is that Aussie is like $12 and we normally pay more than anyone.

Open how? Is there any limitation Apple put in place to prevent Spotify from making watch app? Cellular streaming locked to only Apple Music?

what make traditional unique ?
body and dial , right ?
so why people need to custom the watch face /

Correct the apple Watch does not have a native Whatsapp app, the iphone does, THAT IS THE FACT. Service/device does not matter bottom line is, a native whatsapp app is not present on the AW.

That's not a limitation of the watch, but of Whatsapp for not offering it. Besides the fact that composing a message on the watch would be beyond painful.

What winds me up is that a rectangular watch face is only available on the Hermes editions and not on the standard range. A rectangular watch is perfectly suited to a rectangular face but apple only offer circular faces. Ridiculous!!...especially as its a simple software issue rather than anything to do with the manufacturing process.

Are you not able to see what apps have a AW app available in the AppStore? Just go to the app and it tells you?

Things I was surprised at -

- Spotify doesn't support storing songs on the Watch. I believe there was an app to do this which no longer works. But this isn't Apples fault - this is something Spotify should work on.
- The Watch faces are limited, to put it politely. Since it's software-based you could have thousands of designs, but no. The very few options available did surprise me, and I hope Watch OS5 secretly adds a lot more.

really!? I was interested in the topic itself... but all you were able to do was nagging and tell the opinions you had.

I dont own apple watch, i like real automatic watches, but interested in buying one. For example i didnt know that i cant start a conversation using whatsapp - and that is an app that ”everyone” using here in europe. I didnt know that spotify dont support the watch by storing songs... just read from this thread too. And so on...

Sure it is upto me to check if the app has an apple watch app. but even if it has, you cant tell the experience without having the app and using it.

The topic idea was great but many seemed to miss it.

Again whatsapp not having an app isn’t a limitation of the watch...

Again whatsapp not having an app isn’t a limitation of the watch...

The op started a topic where you can share you experience of lacking features you found by using the watch - because of the watchOs or the apps not existing.

Major apps lacking a support from the os or not having the app at all is the key of the topic. Today, you should expect that these major apps are working with the watchOs - if there are no support or the app works less than expected, me and others who dont have a watch are interested in knowing how well the watch actually does your daily stuff in a real life.

Not having an app for the watch is a limitation for how well you can use the watch and what to expect when buying it. It doesnt matter whether the feature is missing because of the limitation from the watchOs or the lacking of the app itself, it still affects the experience using the watch and hence limiting using the watch.

it still affects the experience using the watch and hence limiting using the watch.

If that’s your way of thinking, isn’t it easier, and less confusing, by listing what the watch can do than what it can’t? Like the majority of threads in this forum did?
Because I can assure you there are much more things it can’t do than it can if your thought is a lack of an app for whatever reasons will be the watch limitation while we are trying to talk about the real limitation of the watch. That’s the difference.

The math will always make this thread messy because there will always be much more apps absent than present.

If you have any scenario in mind to use the watch for, just starts a thread and ask for that specific scenario. I assure you it will be much more shorter, and clearer to you what the watch can and can’t than this thread will ever provide.
