I have thought of this and it's one of the arguments is favour of getting the Milanese loop. The contrast of black with silver will keep the look interesting when the screen is blank.

Every time I look at the watch on my wrist I will see it exactly as advertised. I don't make it a point to look at my watch while it is hanging by my side on my wrist.
Well, not exactly.

The Watch's display has a 15-20 second timeout, meaning after you raise the watch, the display turns on for 15-20 seconds and then turns off if there is no physical interaction (touch, button press, etc.) with the watch in that time.

It's not clear yet whether the Watch's screen timeout is configurable, but, if it is, changing (increasing) the default will reduce battery life.

Dear OP,

For future reference, please don't waste my time.

Reality check... Are you serious.

Raise the watch to scratch your head, pick your nose! clean your teeth, hail the taxi, wave to your friend, call the waiter over, get a glass from the kitchen cabinet, steer your car, fix the shelf on the wall, open the garage door, put arm round girlfriend...................... :D

hmmm, interesting photo. I might rethink my color choice a little. Black screen with Space Grey watch and band would look pretty nice when the screen is off.

If you buy something to appeal to others, you are just a poser. I'm buying a watch for myself. If I'm not looking at it, it doesn't need to be on.

First off, Who buys something they don't like?

Secondly, you are buying a "watch" that is being marketed as a fashion accessory by a company known for its premium/luxury electronic devices. If you don't want to embrace the fashion side of that is entirely up to you.

Just know that many people will buy the watch for both its function and it's looks.

Unless you're getting a Pebble Time, that's the reality for all smartwatches.

May persuade some to get the stainless steel one instead of the sport tho...

I have a fitbit and it's always off. I guess I never really thought what other people saw even when I when I wear my normal watch. My watch is an item I use. If I like to look at it and use it, I don't really care what anyone else thinks. Well, let me append that. As long as it's not offensive to others.

For future reference if you have something to say to the OP you may want to quote them so that they get a notification indicating you have nothing productive to say.

Secondly, if this thread was such a waste of your time why did you even bother responding?

I like your style. Upvote.

I'm amazed by the number of people here who care how they look to others.

First, lets clear this up right now....

We all care UNBELIEVABLY how we appear to others. Non-conformists are the WORST conformists.

(like my cheap tabloid wisdom eh? :D )

...this is going to be the reality of what people see when our arms are down at our sides. Be sure you are ok with your watch looking like this with the band you are choosing.

I had to re-read this post like 3 times before I realized that once again, my brain doesn't work like so many others. I'm really excited for the Apple Watch, but that has little to nothing to do with how others will see it/me.

As much as all of us in this sub are excited about the Apple watch let's be clear about something. I know we're all picturing Mickey Mouse dancing on the watch but this is going to be the reality of what people see when our arms are down at our sides. Be sure you are ok with your watch looking like this with the band you are choosing.

Perfectly fine with that for the time being. Not first time I will be using smartwatch and I been OK with it's screen going blank when I am not watching/using it. Sure it would be better if the screen stayed on but we all know the battery limitations and to be quite honest you wold be naive to expcet a screen like that to stay all day on and it's battery to last all day, with the current technology.

----------

Understanding what it looks like and actually seeing an image are two different things. Most images of the Apple watch show the watch face (for obvious reasons) but you don't see the reality of it often which is it's a black square most of the time.

Apple does advertise iPhones, iPads, Macs, etc with screens ON. Obviously people know that when you are not using them, the screen goes OFF to preserve battery (mobile devices) I can't imagine this being a shock to them when it comes to Apple Watch.

It shouldn't be like that. The way you rise and twist your wrist to see the watch is sligtly different frm the way you brush your teeth, pick your nose, hail the taxi or what else. Seriously, if Samsung can make it work, so can Apple. I have used the gear fit and most of the times it got it right. But we will wait and see how acurate this one can be.

I notice that "reality check" is gone. Good. Common sense has prevailed. :)

Yeah, that was a poor choice of word to use considering half the people who read the thread knew what I was talking about and the others were "reality check? where what?"
