But wait, you need an iPhone to be either in your pocket or on the same wi-fi network for this to work right?

I don't know about you Keith, but I "always" have my iPhone in my pocket, on my desk, or in my hand. I expect that's true for 98% of people out there who own iPhones.

The small details

The time is completely wrong in those screenshots, it says 10:09 and it is 16:59 , this is totally unacceptable.

Get your priorities straight Apple, it's supposed to be a Watch, you can sort out the GeeWhiz here's the news features later, but I'm not buying an iWatch unless the time is correct to at LEAST +/- 10 minutes.

You're in the wrong time-zone.

Then why do you need an overpriced watch if you always have it on you.

I think most people initially imagined that the watch would take it's place for times when you didn't want to bring your phone (jogs, workouts, hikes, bike rides, sports, a billion other things), but it's not.

I get it - that tech wouldn't fit into a watch and have decent battery life, but then why release it?

I feel like the Apple Watch is an iPhone with 5% of the function on a tiny worthless screen, and it's only benefit is that you don't have to take your iPhone out of your pocket to read text messages.

I'm not trolling, which I'm sure many will say. I just think that press releases stating that the watch can give you news highlights shows how worthless this thing actually is.

I don't know how people have survived this long without having the news on their wrist every second of the day. Between this and never missing a Facebook notification, life will never be the same.

Wasn't the Apple Watch supposed to free people low-priority notifications?

Well, if you don't want to know these things, I'm pretty sure you can turn it off. If you're a trader, or a journalists, maybe you want to know all those things. Low priority is RELATIVE TO YOU, not everyone else.

In other words, it does the same thing that my phone does which is right next to me, face up. Oh but wait, just in case I need to stand up and move 5 feet away from my phone, I need to get a headline on my wrist.

Really lame apple. Hope use cases improve.

You are doing the "concern trolling" variety, Look it up.

Lets repeat this like a mantra : my own wants/needs are not the same as those of others.

Some people may want this kind of thing to go to their wrists (traders, journalists, news junkies, those people who info on some breaking situation, local news that affect them (tornado warnings), etc); so, who are you decide for them.

If you can filter the news to the subject/location you want, you could create hyperlocal personal news/alerts this way.

It's not Apple's fault, though. It's on the developers to come up with clever and new ways of thinking when creating apps for the watch vs. what they've done with the iPhone & iPad.

Local breaking news and weather alerts would be great.

you spend waaaaaaaay too much time on internet forums to know your own lingo. and like it or not i'm having a conversation on a forum where i can state my views.

I've been on the Internet since 1987, I think I've picked up a few words since then... Many words I've picked up in the 1980s aren't even used these days, that's how long I've been around.

I'm just telling your your "views" are following a well worn groove, that has its own name already.

Widgets are great - love them! Wish they were used more.

Not what I meant. Widgets really are great.
What I meant is the treatment they get. SO much potential completely overshadowed by the tons of crap that were allowed to be submit.
I hope they manage to give it proper App store treatment.

Apple Watch, bringing a whole new level of distracted driving to the world's highways.

Please, somebody tell me that these At-a-Glance headlines are automatically shut off if the Apple Watch is moving more than 10 mph!

Mark

I sure hope this also includes ABC here in Australia.. not just U.S

I'm wondering if u at least u can pair say an iphone and ipad, maybe not at the same time, but switch between pairing.

since i frequently access info on both, but if both can now be done via the Apple watch, then that would be good.

In theory that might be useful, but there is no local news online. These days it's all feeds from AP (Assigned Propaganda) or Bloomberg (Botberg). But hey, it's all good, obey, submit, consume.

What's it called when someone first attempts to counter an argument with a belittlement?

I can't think of an app I'd like to see less on my watch than a news app. I mean our attention spans have shortened considerably - I get that. Look at the success of Twitter for example. But text short enough to fit on a watch? That's a non-starter.

You know the more I think about the Apple Watch generally, the less enthused I am about it. Apple had the right idea with using it to generate health stats. It makes sense, because the form factor is ready made for that kind of usage (ref. FitBit, Nike Fuelband, etc.).

Email and text notifications are fine too.

News and articles? Not so much.

It doesn't mean that it shouldn't be offered or exist though. You named health, email, news, and messages. You're a fan of 3 out of 4 of those. Great! Use those three. There may be a news junkie out there who finds news on their watch as useful as email.

EDIT: I don't mean for what I said to come off as an attack. Some posts really go off on every app on the watch. You explained, in your opinion, that news doesn't seem like it will work well, and I can see what you mean. I don't think I'll be using it either, but it's fine that it's there.
