Your phone is probably screwed if it was out in the rain all night long, but a bag of rice will do absolutely nothing but waste precious time. All the rice does is absorb surface moisture and give some placebo effect to the feeble minded.

See if you can find a desiccant pack somewhere locally, or overnight it from amazon. That's your only chance.

Wut? A dessicant pack will literally do the exact same thing as rice. There's nothing magical about it, all it does is absorb moisture, just like rice.

I washed an iPhone 5 through a full wash and spin cycle and found it while transferring clothes into the dyer. I put it in a closed container with large size desiccant bags from Home Depot I let it sit for a week. When I plugged it in it would not charge up right away, but I let it sit plugged in. After about 10 min the apple appeared. When it finally powered on, it did some fireworks type splashes and turned off. When I let it charge fully, it worked from then on with no problems for a year until I went to an iPhone 6+. So some really CAN be brought back to life. I wouldn't give up hope on it until it has sat for at least a week.

Spent $200 repairing my screen yesterday, and then left it out in the pouring rain all night. Ouch. When I went out and got my phone, it was working, the only problem was that the phone thought the headphones were plugged in when they weren't so I wasn't getting any sound. I went back to bed and woke up a few hours later. The headphone jack seem to have been working normally again. After a few minutes on the phone, it just cut out and hasn't responded since. It's been in a bag of rice for about 24 hours and there is currently no sign of life.

My question is, will I be able to activate the watch with no iPhone? Would you cancel your order? I can't afford a new iPhone right now.

Many people don't realise this but.....

When your phone (or any electronic device that is not waterproof) comes in contact with water, you must switch it off right away and not switch it on until you are sure any moist from inside have disappeared.

It's not the phone being left on the rain that killed your phone. It's you leaving it on after the rain.

That is not correct. Although you need an iPhone to pair with for original set up, it will certainly tell time and other features, but once again, it needs to be paired up with an iPhone 5 or newer first.

I guess your right, because the watch will work like an ipod. You need a iPhone to activate it, but you do not need for basic functions, music, pictures and time that are stored on the watch, right...

Really? Why sell it? OP could afford to buy a new phone AND a watch.

Although I haven't done this, there is NO crime in selling something you bought and making a profit. That is not scalping, it's capitalism.

True. But is it worth your time to end up taking it to an Apple Store on the 13th day of trying to sell it.

Well, no, this is not really true in this case, what probably killed the phone is leaving it on during the rain. Leaving it on after didn't help, that's for sure, and turning any electronic device off as soon as you realize it has been in contact with water is a great idea, but the fact that it was left on in the rain would have pretty much assured it'd be killed. Turning it off after the fact wouldn't have really helped at all in this situation.

What actually destroys the device is a short caused by the conductivity in the ions in regular tap/rain/salt water. Turning the device off as soon as possible lowers the chance of this happening, since there wouldn't be any electrical signals to conduct. Deionized water would technically not have any effect on the electrical system of any device (for a short period of time, water becomes ionized really quickly).

nice try dude with a june ship date. lol the other option would be for him to keep his order and just get another iphone.

I have a 4/24-5/8 ship date, and I'm also not delusional enough to think that I could convince enough people to cancel their watches that it would have any effect on shipping dates.

The OP said he couldn't afford a new phone - based on that information there is no reason for him to get a watch.
