Apple watch or iPad mini 4?

I got to the point where I rarely used my iPad Air, and since I got my 6 plus, I haven't touched it once (so it's now in a kid friendly case with games on it). The watch, on the other hand, will probably get used a LOT. For me, the iPad doesn't do much the iPhone can't (unless I want to use a drawing app). The watch will serve a completely different purpose.

I got a Note 4 and a iPad Air 2. Entirely 2 different devices, experiences and ecosystems. I love the differences so maybe it's not just the size factor. Maybe you found the similarities to be to close to one another to warrant both devices.
And that brings me to this point. If Apple is trying to push a similar experience from the iPhone over to the watch what's the purpose of owning both devices? I own a LG G watch and love it because it does not try to replace my phone. I treat it as a basic notification device and for activities requiring more than a few seconds I just whip out my phone. Plus it helps that I got it for $79 with a $50 play credit.
If Apple focused on making a simple good looking watch for around $250 I wouldn't be so critical. But $350 minimum is over half the cost of a iPhone, $50 more than a new iPad mini 2 and the stainless steel is the cost of a iPhone 6. The function to price ratio is to high. I personally would try pebble because the functionality looks better.

599 for a base SS is same as buying top of the line iPad mini, 599.

I have an iPad mini and buying the Apple Watch. I couldn't tell you which one to pick because they each have its use, one doesn't pretend to be the other, they serve different purposes. What do YOU want from each device ?

Not sure what you mean by they both cost the same, should smaller items cost less ?

If I had to pick only one and the Apple Watch cost $1000 and the iPad Mini cost $5 I would buy the Apple watch. I wouldn't care if the iPad mini is so much bigger and cost a lot less.

Get what you need and since they both cost the same you don't have to worry about the price as a decider

Putting it the way the OP did, if I had neither, I'd have to go for the iPad. For the price, the iPad can do WAY more.
