Many good points in the posts above. They've made me reconsider my guess at the Edition price point,
I agree the case will be solid gold, but there also is not going to be as much mass to the case as there is on a traditional watch. I am sure that Apple has hollowed out the case as much as possible to fit in the electronic bits.
i would think that percentage wise, there'll be more "stuff" to jam in the case than in a traditional mechanical watch.
That may help keep the gold price down.
100% Agree.
The BIGGEST Killer at the moment is battery life.
It's such a touchy subject, and some consider, THE biggest fail as of today with all these devices.
We are used to winding watches, then some automatic watches that never needed winding, then we had quartz watches, themselves a modern miracle at the time that would run for perhaps 2 or 3 years on a tiny battery.
A watch, to use those immortal words... "Just Worked"
You could wear your watch, and depending on the model, do anything, shower, swim, sleep etc and it just always kept going. it was always there dependable.
Now we are being slapped round the face with the cold hard reality, so harsh some simply won't contemplate it, that we are going from 2 or 3 years before worrying about our watch stopping, to once a day!
Apple are themselves obviously shy about this, they know it's terrible, and nothing was said, which is odd if you think about it, as it 'IS' one of the killer issues for many.
We can all assume Apple is going to be busting their ass over the next few months, pulling every trick they can with the watches software and shutting down aspects of the hardware in an attempt to have some impressive statement to make upon the official launch.
They know this could be a major blow to the competition if they can pull off a battery life others can only dream of. Even 2 days would seem impressive right not, today, and let's be honest, even that's poor, but 2 is better than one
As you have said, and I agree with, every cubic millimeter is precious space not to be wasted. Every millimeter larger that battery can be, is a major bonus for Apple and their customers.
I'd not be surprised if the Battery is still far from finalized hardware wise, and they are leaving it as late as possible and wanting to use any possible new advancement they can to get the very best mass produced battery inside their watch.
So yes, a nice case that's thick enough to do the job, and everything's packed super tight inside, making use of every last tiny amount of space they can find to use.
