Market research company J.D. Power has published the results of its 2016 Smartwatch Device Satisfaction Report, and Apple ranked highest among smartwatch manufacturers in customer satisfaction. Samsung finished in second place, although it was first in the related fitness band category.

The report measured overall satisfaction among 2,696 customers who purchased a smartwatch within the past year, including these factors listed in order of importance: ease of use, comfort, battery life, phone features, price, strength/durability, display size, styling/appearance, reliability, apps available, and customer service.

Apple earned a satisfaction score of 852 out of 1000, and a five-out-of-five Power Circle rating, compared to runner-up Samsung's score of 842 and two-out-of-five Power Circle rating. Sony, Fitbit, and LG rounded off the top five smartwatch manufacturers with scores of 840, 839, and 827 respectively.

In June 2015, research panel Wristly said overall customer satisfaction with the Apple Watch was 97%, a statistic that Apple CEO Tim Cook cited during the company's subsequent financial earnings call. Apple Watch's customer satisfaction has dropped slightly since then, but it has remained consistently high overall.

J.D. Power and Associates, a division of McGraw Hill Financial, has conducted highly-regarded customer satisfaction surveys for automakers, airlines, technology brands, and more since 1968. iPhones and iPads have consistently topped J.D. Power's smartphone and tablet customer satisfaction ratings in past years.

I am mostly satisfied. With Apple Pay in Australia I can use it in 99% of businesses.
I used it to get me exercising again and I have lost about 10kg this year.

I got one for my wife too. She forgets to charge it. She doesn't really like it. Complains that it is flat. Doesn't use the exercise features and health tracking even though she quite often goes to the gym etc.

I can't wait for WatchOS 3 as it will make the watch even better.

still has alot of room for improvements. can't wait to see the apple watch 2.

And all those smart watches cost relatively the same and have the same features. Right?

Otherwise it would be like saying Ford festa owners are more satisfied in their cars than Tesla p85d owners.

Where is Garmin? Do they not sell enough units to be included?

I have a Fenix 3 HR and love it

More Activity Watch with Smart features than Smart Watch but really good

Simple smart features like silent alarm keeps going to snooze until you get up and then knocks off

Keeps Samsung phone unlocked while I am in same room but if I leave it locks it

From looking at the scores, it seems like all watches are rated more or less the same. I don't understand why a with with a rating of 5 points above the average (on a 1000-point scale) is rated 5 starts and a watch of 5 points below the average only gets 2 stars. Not to mention that the 2-star device is actually second in consumer satisfaction. Something here is really weird here. Its like, 'A is 2mm higher then the average, so her is REALLY TALL and B is 2mm shorter, so he is a TINY PERSON'.

MR only addressed part of the survey. The link to the survey is for smartwatches and fitness bands. Garmin is in the fitness band category. It ranked 2nd.

Please, not car analogies. Not only because it's an incorrect analogy but because it forgoes simple logic. It's entirely possible for a Fiesta owner to be more satisfied with their purchase than a Tesla owner. Considering the issues Tesla has had lately, it's not only possible but highly likely.

One thing I don't get: Watch has 852 and 5 stars and Samsung has 842 and 2 stars. Yet, LG has 827 and also 2 stars.

This seems odd, unless I'm missing something.
The stars and the score are not connected in the way you're thinking they appear to be. JD Power has always been that way. It does make for a confusing read.

I'm with you, there's 10 point difference between the Samsung and Watch, over a score of 800. Rating the Samsung with three less stars doesn't seem to fit with the customer satisfaction rating.

This chart basically tells me Apple has a lot of work to do to gain any significant advantage over the competition. Otherwise it's statistically no different than the competition as far as the actual owners are concerned.
