I got my watch yesterday, got it set up and it was working fine. Had one strange issue where the text messaging would not send via iMessage, only as SMS even though I'm sending to someone with an iphone. I was playing around with it and decided to unpair and reset and try pairing up again.

Thats when the watch got stuck on the apple logo. Then I hard reboot by pushing in side button and crown. Then the red exclamation point is shown with reference to this website: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204776

Now my watch is completely dead. bricked. done. Thanks apple

anyone else see this? genius bar appoint set but i'm guessing i'll need a replacement and of course there are none. Hoping someone has seen this and has a sequence of buttons, reboot, etc, to get the watch back to working?

its a 42mm sport.

Not sure why you got the exclamation mark but this topic about messages not syncing has been discussed on several threads. Here was my response to someone yesterday:

Same exact issue. If you have two factor identification (or whatever its called) then you need to do an extra step to get messages working. You need to log into your Apple ID page and under security and passwords you need to create an app specific password. Call the app Messages. Restart the watch. Then you will be prompted to enter you iCloud password on your phone. Instead of the normal password you need to type in the one created for Messages specific. DONE.

you're welcome. apple should have told customers how to fix this since they are pushing 2FA. Have you tried force restarting your watch? Hold done crown and side button together until the watch restarts

I believe Apple may indeed have a watch for you. Yes I'm guessing, but in fifteen years of launches I've never read of Apple not having replacements available. That's just my take on it...:)

Apple stores are stocked based on sales volume, if they must obtain one from another store there very good about getting that done quickly.

Try holding both buttons. Hope for an apple logo!

This brings up a good point - I've not seen any way of "resetting" the watch without the app. So if the app doesn't connect to your phone, there isn't a way to reset.

Going to be a pain if we end up having to pay OOW repair costs for software problems!

weird I have two factor turned on and I didn't have to do this... And my messages work fine.

Same here, maybe it's because I've reset all settings on my iPhone recently. iMessage on the iPhone now allows you to log in with 2FA with a code, I know for a time it didn't.

so happy my watch is coming in june, hopefully everything will be fixed by then

update -

I've spoken to several apple care advisors and I've taken the watch to the local apple store.

The watch is broken, unresponsive and there is no way to get it back. I need a replacement device but here's the problem... none of the stores near me have replacements available. So apple needs to send me one, but one advisor told me that I need to send my watch back first, then they will send me a new one.

**** that... I paid $400+ for this thing I am NOT mailing it back to them. They need to send me a watch first, then I will mail it back to them. But I don't think they understand that.

Anyone from Apple reading this???? Or anyone have bad experiences with Apple, can you share what you did to remedy? Honestly I have a lot of apple products but this is my first bad experience. Pretty frustrating.

They won't do a swap, probably because it's going to take more than 14 days. They will pick up your watch and a brand new replacement will be shipped when it's in stock. You do take priority over new orders though.

Kinda sucks but did they offer you any 'gift' to make up for the hassle?

Bring it in to apple with packaging and exchange it for a new one if it's still in the first 14 days.

Not a watch but i had a similar experience with my iPhone i didn't want to send it back first either so apple agreed to UPS a new one to me when it came available and pick the faulty one up at the same time. Hope that makes sense and you get your watch sorted

One nice thing about working in Manhattan is their Apple stores seem to have replacements for everything. My iPhone 6 Plus screen had issues when i got it. I went second day after launch when people were still camping out trying to get them and I got a replacement no problem.

However, there's a lot more combos for the Apple Watch. Maybe not if they just swap the case and not the band. Then there'd only be 8 types assuming they're not going to keep replacement gold watches on hand.

Seems like most people have had to mail theirs back from what I've read on this forum which is lame, but understandable. I think they need to crack open some of these display cases...

Ask to speak to a supervisor. Supervisors ca do a whole lot more. A genius screwed up my sister's iPhone 5 so bad, it didn't work. An Area manager happened to be at the store and called Apple and talked to a supervisor and they gave my sister an iPhone 6 and a case for her trouble. You seem to get more help if you ask to talk to a supervisor if things aren't resolved to your satisfaction.

Ooh ! This might be why my apple watch is not sending any regular text messages only imessages
Hhhmmmm

thanks for the tip about asking for a 'gift'. i did ask because of your post and they're sending me a black sport band for free :)

so they are sending me an empty box to ship my broken watch back. as soon as they receive that, they'll send me a new watch.

now the part that i'm unclear about is whether or not they have a new device ready to ship me asap. the rep made it sound like they did, but i'm doubtful considering how this whole process has been already!

the stores around me are completely sold out, they dont even have any extras for replacements, so this is my only course of action.

the rep did offer to sell me apple care plus for $49 and that would expedite the process, but i didnt feel it was worth it.

i think that if there are more delays, i will indeed talk to a supervisor. thanks all for your inputs/suggestions, much appreciated. this forum is A LOT MORE helpful than Apple has been. BY FAR!

I think you'll have a replacement coming immediately since you have one of the silver sport models. If you had a space grey you'd have reason to be more concerned.
