update -

I've spoken to several apple care advisors and I've taken the watch to the local apple store.

The watch is broken, unresponsive and there is no way to get it back. I need a replacement device but here's the problem... none of the stores near me have replacements available. So apple needs to send me one, but one advisor told me that I need to send my watch back first, then they will send me a new one.

**** that... I paid $400+ for this thing I am NOT mailing it back to them. They need to send me a watch first, then I will mail it back to them. But I don't think they understand that.

Anyone from Apple reading this???? Or anyone have bad experiences with Apple, can you share what you did to remedy? Honestly I have a lot of apple products but this is my first bad experience. Pretty frustrating.

You needed to purchase apple care if you want them to send a replacement first, they also send you a box and charge your cc until the damaged watch is returned. I think they give you 10 days.

How long from when yours changed to Product replacement pending to when you got notified that it was being shipped. My sport had a crack in the screen and I'm waiting for an update. It change from step one to step 3"Product replacement pending" today.

about 2 business days.

Thanks man, I'm a little nervous since the apple rep said it should be covered since it was a hairline crack, but that ultimately it would be up to the service tech if there would be a charge. I'm hoping that since I have not heard anything yet that means I should be ok. BTW it is 229 for a cracked screen if you don't have apple care. Which thankfully I got.

I got my watch yesterday, got it set up and it was working fine. Had one strange issue where the text messaging would not send via iMessage, only as SMS even though I'm sending to someone with an iphone. I was playing around with it and decided to unpair and reset and try pairing up again.

Thats when the watch got stuck on the apple logo. Then I hard reboot by pushing in side button and crown. Then the red exclamation point is shown with reference to this website: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204776

Now my watch is completely dead. bricked. done. Thanks apple

anyone else see this? genius bar appoint set but i'm guessing i'll need a replacement and of course there are none. Hoping someone has seen this and has a sequence of buttons, reboot, etc, to get the watch back to working?

its a 42mm sport.

If red exclamation point means, according to help article, to restart the watch, why not just display "restart your Apple Watch: Press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo"? It's the worst Screen Of Death ever - puzzling the user without providing any specific info.

Not sure why you got the exclamation mark but this topic about messages not syncing has been discussed on several threads. Here was my response to someone yesterday:

Same exact issue. If you have two factor identification (or whatever its called) then you need to do an extra step to get messages working. You need to log into your Apple ID page and under security and passwords you need to create an app specific password. Call the app Messages. Restart the watch. Then you will be prompted to enter you iCloud password on your phone. Instead of the normal password you need to type in the one created for Messages specific. DONE.

Greetings from Las Vegas...um can you help me?

I just learned you can't judge a thread by its topic.
I searched... And searched, and searched. I can not find the post(s) that you're conversation is about here. I don't even have my watch yet (5/8 tbd) but I'm lurking around. Learning.
do you know where (best link) this two factor identification subject thread is? Just wondering what it is and if it's related to multiple device or account options....hey thanks!

Sample Problem

Hi Guys,

I experience the exact same issue. My watch is only booting up in the red mark. i Bought my watch in france and contacted the French apple care, there are working on a solution but they cannot exchange it on the moment, there is no stock... Any one have a tip how to solve this? I think the whole launch of the apple watch, the bugs and the service i so not apple... Hope anyone can help..

I had the exact same issue although mine happened while updating to Watch OS 2 and when I took mine to Apple they told me they had to send it off to technicians and I was told 2-3 weeks before I get it back and I'm still waiting

Same thing happened to me. I went to the Genius Bar about a week ago and yesterday I got an e-mail that my Watch is ready for pick-up. Weird thing is that when I log in on the Apple Repair Status page it's still on "diagnosing product". Hoping I'll get a new one :D

I now have the same red exclamation on boot. While it was still under warranty several months ago, I took it in for a Genius appointment because it would die occasionally within minutes of being taken off the charger in the morning. Placed back on the charger, it would show the Charge Cable graphic and then be fully charged within a few minutes. It had the same issue in front of the Genius. They sent it in for repair, and Apple Repair couldn't recreate the problem. They sent it back to me and it continued to have the same issue.

Now out of warranty.

The watch has no physical damage or scratches. I'm taking it in to the Genius bar this week.

any more news regarding on how to fix the exclamation point? i was updating the gen. 1 to watch os 3 and it stucked for almost 2 hours. restart it and bam! red exclamation point. chatted with apple chat support and they wanted 249 just to restart it so it can work again. Anyone here ever experienced the same thing and can offer a more cost-friendly option?

Thanks a lot beforehand

any more news regarding on how to fix the exclamation point?

My understanding is the red exclamation mark is a sign that something has failed on the watch, that can't be reset. Because Apple checked out my watch while it was under warranty and couldn't find a problem, and then just out of warranty, it got the exclamation mark, they replaced it for me out of warranty.

[doublepost=1496227133][/doublepost]I am facing the exact same problem and now apple watch is dead . decided to unpair and reset and try pairing up again.Thats when the watch got stuck on the apple logo. Very upset that such an expensive watch goes dead without any issue ,and mine is out of warranty so exchange will cause a lot of money .

Funny, my AW original 42mm stainless died the other day with the red exclamation point.

Apple has no idea what's wrong with it. Note that according to Apple it's not a waterproofing problem, or any kind of obvious issue, and since it's out of warranty the repair costs $249.

I guess I'll keep it and wait for the inevitable repair program.

The most annoying thing is it failed after the 2 year mark, so my extended warranty won't cover the repair.

It was great until it died.

[doublepost=1496923051][/doublepost]I have the same issue with my iphone. Purchased in Jan, 2017. Wore it working fine for 9 months, then was in a terrible biking accident so I had to stop wearing it because of the swelling of my arm which lasted months. By the time I was able to put it back on, I had the red exclamation mark. Though now it's out of warranty. So they are saying I will probably need a new watch. This is a terrible product if I spent $250 on it and it only lasts 9 months and apple has no way to repair it or offer me a new product? i am appalled at Apple and have purchased so many of their products over the years. Am I about to become a samsung loyalist now?
