I still have an AW Series 7 and I haven't seen a single meaningful reason to upgrade. The jump from the Series 3 to 7 was huge.
Likewise, but series 5. It does absolutely everything I need it to.

I tried an Ultra on in the store and liked it but not quite enough to justify the purchase.

Unlike an iphone, when people buy an AW I think they tend to run it for more years (or until its end of life) before upgrading. A smartphone is the center of people's technology it seems, a watch is just an add on.

Plus, the economy keeps getting worse and a lot of spending will probably decrease due to the tariffs (and even from the threat of tariffs).

Battery life was always an issue for me until I upgraded to the Ultra 2 which finally gave me the battery life I wanted where I can go a few days easily without charging, and when I do need to top up fast charging is great.

How many people simply swap their watches at the discounted battery rate when their battery health is depleted?

I got booed for suggesting this, but if they did a smaller Ultra, I'd love to upgrade. I want a rugged watch but not one that is huge or have the screen size as the Ultra.

But they definitely need more features.
I agree. My wife loves my ultra but feels it's too big for her. She would love a smaller version.

I’ve tried to find other uses for my AW, but it just basically comes back to it not really excelling at anything other than basic stuff.
For me, it is basically for telling time, a fitness/health tracker, a Siri interface for basic tasks like “start outdoor walk”, “Open Single Garage Door”, “Open Tesla Trunk”, and displaying notifications. If anything important comes on notifications, I just reach for my iPhone to respond or dive into it more closely.
I’d actually love a more basic watch that did all of that (and still looked good), was a bit smaller (or round, please!), and lasted a week or more between charges.

Agree with most of the above. I love my AW, its probably my favorite apple device. I was planning to upgrade my Series 7 titanium with a Series 8 or 9, but they got rid of the natural titanium. I was excited when they brought it back with the 10, but it's not the same look, it's a lot more shiny, kind of looks like the older Aluminum ones.

Ended up getting the battery replaced on my 7 and am still happy with it & the AW in general. When this one stops working, or gets slow, or some cool new feature gets introduced, I'll upgrade, but I don't feel a burning desire.

I saw a great deal on a S10 titanium on here, but even with that deal, I couldn't justify moving to the 10, from my 7 which still works perfectly.

Interesting 🤔 the Series 10 is the first *real* physical update to the watch since the first gen; performance enhancements, feature creep, all welcome Quality of Life improvements, but I guess Apple didn’t do a good enough job market the fact that the OG mega hunk of metal on your forearm got massively slimmed down. If anyone internal was campaigning to call the 10 “Apple Watch Air” they must be feeling pretty vindicated right now 🤣
I am a heavy user: I workout twice a day, meditate, sleep track and sometimes even use it to stream a podcast. Before the S10 I had an S5 and there id very little difference.

Apple should move the upgrade cycle to either 18 or 24 months for the Apple Watch.

I need larger screen and a watch with a week of battery life. Charging your watch once a day or once every two days is a pure non-sense... I used to own an apple watch series 3. I decided to buy a Huawei GT 4 a few months ago and I did not regret it at all because of a much larger screen and long battery life. I dont see any difference in terms of health and activity tracking such as calories, running performance, weight training performance.

I upgraded a series 6 to an Ultra 2 just because the battery life was getting so bad. However, I was a bit conflicted when I did. Other than the battery life, there aren't any features in the new models that are "killer apps". In fact, I LOST my blood oxygen tracking, which has been very handy over the years.

I'm hoping to see blood pressure, blood sugar, or blood alcohol in the next few years. While I understand there are major engineering challenges, ANY of these would drive major sales.
Whole heartedly agree.

I upgraded every few year and love my Ultra on long hikes and battery life. But I am waiting until blood oxygen is back in US before upgrading again. Also looking forward to arrival of blood sugar although that may be a while. BP could be good too.

Sales bad? Then release a real update. Apple knows they are milking the increments and holding back

Honestly since about the Series 5 (which introduced the AOD) there hasn't really been a compelling reason to upgrade (aside from the Ultra for those that wanted a more rugged watch with longer battery life). Upgrades of the Apple Watch are largely driven by older watches getting worn out rather than new features.

I can see this product eventually slipping from the current annual refresh cycle. There’s just not really a point. A watch device can only do so much and developers are hardly interested.

The battery life killed the AW for me. I'm currently wearing a D2 that has medical grade blood pressure monitoring and arterial health among other amazing features, and lasts a week.

Never understood appeal of having wrist watches, especially smart watches. Back in the days it was sort of a flex to wear golden or silver watches. Other than a status symbol it serves no real purpose. Oh wait, it does! I heard you can use AW to trigger camera shutter. Fun feature but one can live without it.

Since Apple Watch barely change from year to year, Apple better switch to 2 or 3 years upgrade cycle to keep production costs lower and not have to deal with too much unsold stock

This topic has also popped up on some of the Apple related podcasts I watch. I am a big fan of the Apple Watch, owning three models (Series 7 green aluminium, series 9 SS gold, AWU1). I wear one of my Apple Watches 5 out of 7 days of the week, and during every workout. I love the health features, certain notifications (sports app has improved recently), messaging, phone calls, maps, stuff like sunset/sunrise, stocks, tides, etc. I am a big fan of the product.

However, I looked at upgrading my Series 7 to a Series 10, and actually bought one, but returned it. I thought my Series 7 simply looked better, and Series 10 didn’t offer a ton of functionality upgrades. Similarly, no reason to upgrade my Series 9, which is Stainless Steel (not available anymore), has blood oxygen (not available) and has most of the new features (sleep apnea, on device Siri, etc). Similarly, AWU1 to AWU2 is not a huge upgrade. I refreshed my AWU1 with the titanium Milanese loop, and it looks great. All of my watches have 97% to 100% battery health and will work for several years.

Basically - The small Series 10 update and AWU2 not having been really upgraded for a year, seems to have slowed the product down. And the rumors for this fall don’t seem that encouraging in terms of must-have upgrades. So it seems like Apple is struggling to add meaningful upgrades to the device right now.

What can Apple to do really get people to buy new watches, and to get more people interested in the platform? Some ideas I have

1) New health sensors - they really need the hypertension and the blood sugar sensors to be added
2) Add back blood oxygen - even if people don’t use it much, they aren’t going to feel good upgrading to a device and losing a sensor
3) Revitalize third party app development - more developers should be spending more time on apps
4) Make it easier to use the product without an iPhone on cellular - originally, a big part of the AW appeal as the ability to leave your phone at home. Many of the app developers seemed to have abandoned that. Bring it back
5) More battery life
6) Bring back leather bands, or at least somehow improve FineWoven
7) Bring back stainless steel…bring back traditional brushed titanium and ceramic… add more aluminum colors - stainless steel is a classic watch material. Bring it back. The brushed titanium watches were also good looking, as was the white ceramic. Also the aluminum colors are kind of limited now. They need more color variety.

We need a much larger screen. All the larger current models are essentially the same size for screen real estate. Give me something much larger and I'll upgrade happily.
I mean... there's option to strap a phone to your forearm...

I still have my Series 6 lol. I just haven't felt the need to upgrade. I honestly forgot that I'm probably due for one. I mean, it's just a watch. Unlike AirPods, Mac, iPhone, etc. its not really something you think about if you're just wearing it on your wrist everyday and only using it as a watch to track your health data

How about going deep and not just wide on the fitness features. Shamelessly crib some of what a leader in the segment like Garmin is doing? A10 day battery is a must for my fitness requirements
