Uhh.. have you done the calculations for the resolutions provided? They are plenty retina-enough at 330PPI.

They're not 330PPI and 330PPI is not retina for something you hold this close to your face. What point are you trying to make exactly by quoting me?

I don't know if it's likely, but it would be very bold for Apple to charge the same price the two sizes.

I see all sorts of people make their choice of phone size based on the price. Wouldn't it be cool if Apple's sales force could help people decide on what size watch to get based solely on how it looks on their arm and nothing else?

These are supposed to be fashion pieces, after all. Does Apple want to see ludicrously tiny watches on large men's arms because they wanted to save a few bucks? That doesn't help Apple sell more watches.

Yes, I know the bigger watch uses more materials, but it's nowhere close to the difference between an iPad Air and Mini. And it's not like the markup on these things isn't high enough to cover the few extra cents in glass per larger watch.

I dunno, it would certainly be a departure from every other Apple product. But in this one case I could see it being beneficial to Apple.

I hope Apple will be adding more then just notifications for Apps before the watch gets out to market early next year !

As the article says that: "developers will be able to create "fully native" apps "later next year."

Febuary release for the watch seems early to me if Devs are gona get access to doing native apps for the watch.

I guess that:

iOS 8.2 -------- Lets iPhone talk with Apple Watch for notifications and glances

iOS 8.3 -------- Lets iPhone load native Apple Watch Apps to the watch

Fail.

These strict guidelines are what majes iOS look tired.
ALL icons flat, in a square that is identically sized, this is one area where Android is far better than iOS.

600 ppi

600 PPI!!! Compare that to 205 PPI for the moto 360!!! DAMN, imagine some nice apps you can do with that kind of pixels on a watch.

Wait, I guess it's more like 300 PPI, but that's still lot better than moto 360.

While I understand your concerns, not having to worry about, "is this icon something important?" is a good OOBE (out of box experience).

People want something that works, not something that they have to figure out. On a watch, I want it to work as a timepiece, then to do all other cool things.

I think it'd be bold to not charge the same price for the two sizes, they're watches and I suspect most people who are going to buy them are going to expect the same price for the mens/ladies sizes.

(I'm also very curious if the larger one will actually cost more to make or the difficulties in making things even smaller will matter).

I don't think anyone willing to pay minimum of $350 is going to try to save a few bucks by buying a smaller size that doesn't look right on their wrist. Apple has positioned this as a fashion/tech item so I think consumers will make purchasing decisions accordingly. Personal taste might dictate the final size choice but not someone looking to save $50. That's not the demographic shopping for this piece.

Two resolutions for devices which are pretty similar in size seems unnecessary. Why not just use a higher PPI on the smaller one and use the same resolution, like iPad mini vs iPad? For a small device requiring lightweight apps, it seems odd that right off the bat you likely have to double-up on every art asset in the app. That bloat should have been avoided.

I see that but Apple make so much of how things appear and then produce that flat boring rubbish.
Look at OSX icons, still flat but all different shapes and colours.

Flat boring rubbish is your opinion not fact.

I'm going to wait for apple watch 2 or 2s. That way any glitches by then will have been worked out and apple will have included all sensors by then.

Maybe doing that made the smaller one display things too small for a device millions of people use? Just thinking out loud.
