I'm thinking the next Apple Watch will be a big enough design change and performance increase to upgrade, so I'm considering the $100 I saved on the Series 1 as already spent on the next model...

Ok, so I figured I'd find out what realistic battery life I can really get from my Series 2. Took the phone off the charger at 7am yesterday. Did a 1.5 hour workout with Bluetooth music streaming from the AW the entire time. Watched an all day marching band competition while receiving updated college football scores pretty much all day via CBS sports app, used Siri to make a few phone calls and received and and responded to a typical amount of iMessages (guessing about 20). Also received and dismissed probably about 50 notifications.

Went to bed at 11pm with 49% and woke up at 7am with 45%. My Series 1 would have been in power saving mode by 10pm last night. I'm going to hit the gym and start the routine again and see what happens.

I'm not trying to save battery life, I'm just executing my typical use case. If I don't use the workout and music streaming this morning I would predict that it would last pretty close to the end of the day. This would be about 40 hours. No gps though. I'll update when my battery finally dies.

I am sure there are tons of these topics out there, but I wanted to see which one works best for me in my particular situation?

So I am interested in an AW1 or AW2 for my 7+. I am excited about getting the AW1 or AW2 because of the new dual-core processor. GPS piques my interest as well. I also want to get special financing for the Watch, but it seems like that Apple only offers it on the 42mm AW2 Sport or better.

The bands I am looking at: Sport, Nylon, or the Nike edition.

Is the brightness worth it? Can you use GPS on your wrist for Apple Maps for driving directions instead of the iPhone when attached, meaning you could save battery a bit with bluetooth being used rather than bluetooth + GPS? I don't swim, so would the AW1's splash resistance be good as the IP67 rating the iPhone 7+ offers?

What I want to use my watch is for notifications, a speaker for calls when in private at home, measuring footsteps, working with music as a remote, siri, apps. Anything else that's better is a plus. I was thinking the 1000 nits might help during the day too. Thoughts?
It boils down to this;

Get Series 2 if you:
1. Swim
2. Run outdoors (nike+ model)
3. Pull work days longer than 18 hours.

Get Series 1 if no to all of those.

I was tempted by series 2, but the extra £100 wasn't worth it, since I don't do any of those 3 things, and the steel models this time are absurdly expensive compared to first time round (the Milanese model is £150 more in the U.K. This time, than it was when I bought the original at launch, which I just couldn't justify).

The brighter screen is honestly something I didn't deem to be an issue that needed fixing. I've never noticed the brightness outdoors to be a problem.

Performance between S1 and S2 is identical. There's a useful video on 9to5mac that shows this too.

Don't forget the Series 1 has a composite back like the Series 0. The series 2 on the other hand has a ceramic back.

Regarding display brightness keep in mind that the new S1 uses the same glass cover as the S0 Sport which never had an issue with outdoor brightness/reflectance. It's only the Steel models with their sapphire covers that needed the upgrade.

Yeah, a lot of people had issues with the apple serigraphy on back, at least in my country.

What about the difference between haptic engine?
On S0 and S1 it is really weak. Best on S2?
I wouldn't say it's really weak on my S1. I have it at about 75% of maximum. As far as I know, S1 and S2 are the same, but I have no personal experience. I have read some people in forums state that the stainless steel body doesn't transmit the haptic quite as well as aluminum.

Thank you. Please could you say me if you feel a difference between middle strength and full strength in the settings? With my S1 both are exactly the same...

Ok I went and looked and saw that there are only 3 settings for haptic(low, medium, high). I was thinking of volume when I said mine was set at 75%.

With that said, I've been keeping my haptic at 100%. I definitely notice a difference between the three settings on my Series 1.

If you are sure there is no difference between medium and high on your watch, I'd take it to an Apple Store if you have one near.

What is the benefit of the ceramic back?

Apparently many people had bad scratching on the back of the original Apple Watch. I don't really understand how or why the back of the watch would get that much contact with abrasive materials. My Apple Watch Series 0 had no scratches at all.

Don't forget the larger battery in the series 2 versus series one or original model. If one isn't using the GPS stand alone too often then battery life should be superior

In my case low means no haptic at all and then medium and high are exactly the same.
I will try to go in an Apple Store.

After checking out both watches (series 1 and 2) in person and spending few hours on a research I will be getting 38mm white series 1 for my wife as a holiday gift. In her case, series 2 really brings nothing useful that would be worth the $100 extra. We would rather spend the $100 on a nice dinner instead :)

I gave it a lot of thought and after concluding I did not need the watch to be water proof or have the built in GPS, I too decided to got with the Series 1. I hesitated and almost went with the Series 2 for the brighter display, but after reading a few reviews still went for the Series 1.

I also went with Series 1 42mm. Not had an Apple Watch before.

Got mint condition, used once, boxed and receipt for £190 on eBay.

Is it definitely a series 1? That price suggests its last years model, or you got an extremely good bargain.

Yeah definitely Series 1. Guy even highlighted in his eBay ad that it was the latest 2016 model, showed series 1 on the box. He got it a couple of days ago from Argos but went back to Android

Dunno, seen a couple going for £220-£220... Very few though. Mostly go for around £260+

I've been so lucky recently.

- iPhone 7 256GB Mat Black, Sim free and mint for £570

- MacBook Pro 13 Retina (Early 2015 model) with 2.9GHz CPU, 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD. Mint condition, boxed and 3 years Apple care for £617

Now then Apple Watch Series 1 for £190 :)

I sold my series 0 for £205 so that's brilliant :)

My top tips:

- Search "Buy Now" on eBay and recent listings, go around making best offers and hope somebody takes a bite for an easy sale. You'll always find two people, ones who feel since they listed it so soon they're happy to wait. Others figure they'll take less for a quick sale.

- Check Facebook Classifieds, Shpock and Gumtree.

Always possible to get a bargain, just takes a couple of days sometimes.

Next on the list.... Beats Solo 3.
