I’m curious how often you actually use the blood oxygen sensor? I can see how it would have been useful back when Covid was in full swing, but now that the virus is attenuated and hypoxia is rare, I don’t see much use for it unless you have underlying lung disease like asthma or copd.

Or maybe it’s just a “I’ve got this feature and taking it away would be a downgrade” sentiment which I absolutely understand.
I check the blood ox several times a day. Pulse, too. And ECG and Sleep app once/day each. I actually got a second Apple Watch (I have a 7, got my wife a 9, and took her 6) so I always have one charged up. Probably going to leapfrog the wife and get a series 10 when Apple settles the litigation on the blood ox sensor.

Series6 owner here. Only reason I want to upgrade is to get to listen to audio (podcasts, music) directly from the watch speakers. Very useful for showers!
Series6 owner here too! Why would it not be possible to enable such audio routing on older watches, I wonder? Phone call audio on my 6 is not hard-wired, or is it?

Faster charging had been a feature since S7.
Funny for the CN variants, due to wireless charging regulations in China, Series 10 actually had fast charging removed lol.
Series 7-9 45min charge to 80%.
Series 10 30min charge to 80%.

Faster Charging

The new metal back integrates a larger and more efficient charging coil, making Series 10 the fastest-charging Apple Watch ever, so it is easier than ever to use Apple Watch throughout the day as well as overnight. Fifteen minutes of charging provides up to eight hours of normal daily use, or eight minutes of charging powers up to eight hours of sleep tracking. Faster charging also means users can charge to 80 percent battery in about 30 minutes.

What part of my original statement was wrong?

You cannot hear sh*t on AW speaker... I've tried it today on Ultra 2... blows hard
What type of audio are you listening to? If it’s music I’d believe you, but spoken word?? When I take phone calls on my AW, the audio quality is pretty decent and the volume is audible enough to hear even with some background noise. I’ve taken many calls while in the shower - no problems there whatsoever.

Yeah, I always feel like the speaker is good enough for playing other types of sound besides phone calls audio, at least spoken content if not music. I don’t know why Apple is not allowing this, if there is a hardware limitation on the speaker or what the deal is.

Yea, no updates on that patent dispute/import ban… that is a hard requirement to upgrade from my U2 that has SpO2
I'm curious if models outside of the US still have it enabled. I rarely used it on my Series 8, so I'll findout when the Series 10 arrives, I'm in Canada.

Is monitoring for sleep apnea available now? I was under the impression that this was only available for the new watches. My original post was referring to checking a o2 sat by the app, not sleep apnea monitoring.
From what I understand, it’s coming later this month to the new watches and series 9.

Coming from a Series 7, this is a very nice upgrade for me for the following reasons:

- it's much lighter (coming from stainless steel, and I only bought stainless steel Apple Watches because of the sapphire display, but I always hated the weight of it because it not only feels heavy but also absorbes so much of the taptic feedback)
- brighter display (2000 nits peak) and while not a must, it can be handy when doing hikes
- on device Siri
- 64Gb storage (I store offline music, podcasts and Wikiloc trails)
- brighter from an angle
- skin temperature
- thinner look
- slightly larger display than my current 41mm S7
- double tap (handy when cooking)
Exactly. Coming from a S7 also and its unreliable heart rate monitor. Dont care about SpO2 as others claim to be.

Don't know what to tell you, I've tried music & podcasts on Spotify. It sounds like sh*t. It's unusable.

I suspect S10 is also largely identical to S9 processor.
All the Apple Watches have basically been the same internally since the milestone Series 6. Main changes have been screen changes.
They’ll be due another milestone change round about series 12. I’ll be upgrading only when there’s a major sensor change like I did when I replaced my OG Apple Watch with the series 6.

Sign up for Slick Deals notifications on the App because there have been some killer deals on Series 8 and 9's in the last month. I picked up a Stainless Steel Series 8 for 199 last week from Walmart and completely happy skipping the 10. What am I missing out on besides slightly faster charging and a slightly larger screen? Sleep apnea detection? There's already an app for that. High/Low tide tracking? Yeah there's an app for that too. The Series 8 still has a Blood Ox sensor, which I use for various fitness apps and cell connectivity hasn't changed since the series 4 really.
So yeah if you can find a deal on an 8 I think you'll be more than happy with the upgrade.
Same…. Perfectly fine with my SS 8

Yeah, but the guy in the post I was replying to is acting as if he is using his Apple Watch for sleep apnea monitoring now.

Got it! I'm not the original person you replied to, but I have been using it to monitor my symptoms with the blood oxygen sensor (not the new sleep apnea detection feature). I watch it to watch what aggravates my symptoms. For example, I recently moved from a high elevation to a low elevation, and my blood oxygen doesn't dip as low when I don't use my machine. Curious how the apnea detection works once it's out.

and your battery still works? I traded in my S5 last year cus it was getting weak... but still the biggest upgrade the Apple Watch has ever gotten since the S4 is the S5's always on display.
My s4 is down to 67% battery health. Do you think it could last another year?
That's pretty low.
My S4 is at 82% battery health (got it since release), so it should be fine for another year.
I prefer matte black, I'm not a fan of the glossy finish on the S10 aluminium. They ruined the black version for me by making it glossy, now it's going to be prone to scratches. Hopefully the next generation will be matte again.

Interesting use! I just went backpacking at 11K feet, and I never thought to check my O2 sat. Definitely felt short of breath with the elevation. I’m also looking forward to the sleep apnea monitoring with the update.

I've decided to trade it in. I'll probably get £50 at most.

It's amazing that yours is still at 82% since launch. How did you manage that?

It was going to cost £95 to service the battery so I'm better off upgrading

I'm surprised it still works at all. Once battery health gets into the 70s on most things they become trash. Can you even get through part of the day without it dying?
