"Worth it" is purely subjective. People who use an Ultra would typically find it "worth it". People who do not would typically find it "not worth it".

I use an Ultra and love it. I would not go back to the regular AW range.

Ultra 1 to Ultra 3. Almost certainly I'll skip Ultra 4 and wait for Ultra 5.

Did you benefit from or notice an improvement with the jump from 1 to 3?

I parsed out the added features, having never paid attention to them before now, trying to determine if any of them matter to me other than being stuck on watchOS 26. Of course I'll want to see what the 4 offers and costs.

Well thanks for the feedback and yeah of course some might not 100% need an ultra but if you enjoy the benefits that's great... It's a bit like my MacBook Pro, I could do all work on an air but I enjoy the screen, battery and everything !

not worth it, I cannot recommend a new AW, it is a toy, if anything, get a refurb S10 but do not pay full price on a toy.
/s
I really need one, mine is damaged, battery health under 80 and old, it's an SE 1 stuck on watchOS 10... You might not need one btw... and it's not a toy, it can track all sports I do !

I have always admired the Ultra, finally splurged & got myself the Ultra 3 about a year ago-ish (a few months after it came out)

Overall: I absolutely love it & wish I would have upgraded to the Ultra sooner.

I LITERALLY regret NOT buying an Ultra sooner..... 😂

I do kind of miss how much thinner, lighter & less obtrusive the standard (I had an S6) is, and I do wear my S6 on occasion when my Ultra is charging.....but I'll never go back.

The screen is so much larger & very much more useful; the default Modular Ultra face is just SO much more useful than anything on S6 / standard watches.

Having both the seconds and the ticks around the bezel is very useful for me.
Having more complications on screen is useful.

Battery life is WAY better (though I feel 26 is handicapping my watch & can't wait to upgrade it to 27 soon as possible).

It is a small thing, but I do really like the automatic night mode / switch to red face in the dark.

Just a lot of little things that overall add up to the fact that I LOVE my Ultra, will probably never go back to a standard apple watch.

Ultra all the way.
😎

Also: Screen protectors:

I'm a screen protector guy, for pretty much all my devices.

I bought these along with my Ultra 3. I literally unpacked the watch & slapped this on, right out of the box. Before I even turned it on / charged it for the first time.

And I'm SO glad i did; it's gotten its share of dings.

The Ultra really is noticeably bigger than the standard (but see my other post; I love it & am never going back to standard) and I absolutely find myself knocking it / getting it caught on stuff a lot more frequently than with my S6.

I'm SO, SO thankful I didn't delay putting this on, because not only are there a lot of bezel dings that this protector has absorbed; sometime within the past month or so I managed to get a really substantial scratch / gouge right in the middle of the screen. If that had happened to the watch itself I would have absolutely lost it. 🤯😱😭🤬

I really want to get a set of the orange protectors.... 😎🧐

The ultra is worth it for battery life alone. I think it looks better overall. Its not even heavy for what it is. I will likely get the new Ultra, and I have the 3, if there is any major battery life or sensor change. I also might get the ceramic depending on design.

The budget Apple Watch 12 will be good when you don’t feel comfortable wearing the more expensive Ultra 4. In other words, you should consider adding both to your Apple ecosystem.

The regular Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Ultra work together seamlessly as companion devices.

I don't agree. I wear my Ultra all the time and it's been flawless. I did Tough Mudder last year and no problems at all, expect I had to keep taking it off to get the mud off the sensors, and grind the dirt out from the wheel. I have no doubts about the strength of the Ultra at all. I'm careful, but I don't baby it, and there are no activities I can think of where I'd take it off to protect it.

You're right though that switching from one to another is easy.

Except, I think, the cellular service.

I used Series 3 - Series 8? Ultra 1, Ultra 2 for 2 years, and Ultra 3.

Ultra 3 - best watch I've ever used. The Ultra series I can slam into anything and whatever I slam it into is damaged and my watch isn't. I'd always scratch my normal Apple Watch. The battery life is amazing.

I put a matte screen protector on my Ultras to reduce glare and increase usability when I'm out and about. Helps a lot not to blind people when I'm talking to them.

I've taken the Ultra around the world, white water rafted, slammed into metal / cement barriers, forgotten chargers during 3 day work trips, and ... this watch has delivered every single time. I've used the Ultra to dial 911 to save someone's life having a heart attack? issues on a run. No one was around but me and that person and they didn't have their phone.

I cannot say enough good about my Ultra - it charges so fast, I keep it at 80% charge for battery life and after 2 years I'll have 99% battery health (as I did with my Ultra 2). It charges so fast that I don't even think about battery anymore as I charge when I shower (which is usually daily). I use on average 20-30% of my battery per day.

So ...

Why Ultra over normal AW?
1. Fits me better as a larger guy.
2. Battery life lasts longer.
3. It's near indestructible.
4. Action button for flashlight as I get up to pee at night at an increasing rate has been a huge +. <cough>.

I have no real need for the Ultra 4 over my Series 10, but I love the size and design of the 4. However, if the Ultra 4 gets a big price bump, I'll get the Ultra 3.
