I will sell my Apple Watch stainless steel 42mm to get one of these instead. I love it. The battery life on my Series 1 has always been very, very solid. Lasts a day and a half, or more if I'm careful. I've never especially seen the need for longer battery life (obviously it would be nice but, really, to track sleep? I'm not sure that's a major selling point, TBH).

That's fine. We've got three great features. Water-resistant up to 50m, faster performance and GPS.

Four: over double the screen brightness!

I was hoping to buy this but it needs to have better battery life at least 1 extra full day and also be thinner in design. So I'll wait for next year.

Physically impossible: double battery life even as performance/features keep growing, AND thinner? Not next year, not the year after.

And a 2-day or 3-day battery, assuming you actually use it, will die on you more often than a 1-day: you won't have the automatic habit of dropping it on the charger at night, and so you'll forget sometimes.

I see no reason to upgrade from gen 1. They made far too much a thing of it being water resistant. Though not specified many people swam with the original fine.

Even GPS is a minor feature to me over better battery life as it is poor on the aapple Watch. I would much rather gen 3 keep the thickness and give decent battery life
I swim with my Series 1 all the time. Over a year now. Never a problem. And I know others with same experience. One thing tho, I expect the Series 2 will have far better calorie/cardio tracking for swim workouts. As is, I use the 'Other' setting, and I wonder how accurate it can be.

Yeah I guess it comes down to if you think gps, water proofness and brighter display is worth $100. I think I might wait for Black Friday sale. Sucks that my Apple Watch is now basically worthless, but I guess that's what being an early adopter gets you.

Agreed that saving $100 to get the new dual-CPU Series 1 is a great move for many (most?) people.

But even your original single-CPU model is about to get a great feature and speed boost with watchOS 3! Enjoy it... or enjoy that watchOS 3 helps the resale value :)

I've never especially seen the need for longer battery life (obviously it would be nice but, really, to track sleep? I'm not sure that's a major selling point, TBH).

I've got a Garmin Vivosmart, which has 8-11 days battery life. I don't care about the sleep tracking... but the vibrating alarm clock feature is a killer. It's SO MUCH better than an audio alarm on the nightstand.

You just can't have that with something that you charge every night.

Some people keep saying "meh, not good enough, I'll wait till next year."
Are you guys sure the Apple Watch is a 1-year-cycle product?
I think we won't see AW3 till Sept 2018..

I have my complaints about the iPhone 7, but watch series 2 looks fantastic to me. I have an AW1, and battery life is not an issue for me. Changes look to fix things I would like to see improved. My next Apple product will be this watch. This is evolution on the right scale and timeline for me.

same here - my wife is getting my gen 1 and and picking the series 2 - I will keep my credit ready if something else from Apple comes along.

I am skipping the iPhone 7 since I know I will definitely upgrade to the next model.

Can you disable the GPS?
knowing Apple if it is probably only enable when you do a running type of workout (not blast on all the time)- third parties will probably be able turn on/off as well

I may consider it when it has a 10 day battery life like my Jawbone UP2 has.

As someone who owned 18 UP2s (yes, I've got a pile of broken ones) I'd pay 100x more for an Apple Watch, the added abilities and fact that it doesn't break like clockwork every month.

Remember, the UP was the band that they had to pull from the market for over a year because it broke so often they had to refund everyone's money. And even then they still failed at an insane rate. So often that the company has now gotten out of the business and is on the brink of bankruptcy.

You're comparing a smart watch to a very limited feature fitness tracker. A stripped down Kia to a Porsche and saying the Kia is better because it has better gas mileage. The comparison is silly.

I was sure I didn't want to upgrade from the series 1 but would love th screen brightness and new chip. And if turning off GPS improves the battery might be worth it for me. Not a preorder for me but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on reviews.

Slightly disappointed with the battery life not being increased. But I my Gen 1 does fairly well with the current battery life. The S2 Chip and improved water resistance looks great.

I wear mine to bed every night (I too, appreciate the vibrating alarm on my wrist). A full charge will usually get me well over 24 hours allowing me to charge in the morning as I get ready for work and I can usually get a full charge in 45 minutes or less.

everything has been doubled: the name, the speed, the graphics the brightness. but battery life not. wireless charging while excercising possible? if not, the new and 'better' watch is useless for long distance hiking, cycling etc. So l am waiting for Garmin F4....

As someone who enjoys a week-long battery life and I do track my sleep, I would very much welcome an Apple Watch that could do the same. It's not like it's impossible!

And of course, if Apple did offer sleep tracking, it would become a major selling point, and everyone will bang on and on about how cool it is.

I find it a bit saddening that so many people these days think it's acceptable for a watch to be dead after a day. Standards have dropped so far.

I use my Apple Watch without my iPhone when running so built in GPS will be nice. As far as the battery goes until they can boost it from "one day" to "one week" it's not going to help all that much because, for me, it's all about the interval in charging. Right now I charge it every night. If the battery lasts 2 or 3 days then if I'm not charging it every night, it would likely run out in the middle of a day. But if it was a week's battery I would just charge it every Sunday night at the end of the week.

Awesome, I've been extremely happy with battery life. The watch was getting down to about 40% at the end of the workday when I first purchased it. Now that it has learned my habits and tailored its performance to it I often get home at the end of the day with 60% battery life.

Brighter screen, GPS, "swim proof", my cracked AW1 is getting replaced with no hesitation whatsoever.

Estimates are, but what are the official sales figures? (Hint: there aren't any official sales figures)

What are you trying to defend? You asked "have they sold millions?" Clearly despite there only being "estimates" they have sold millions and dominate in their market. Give it up and realize that your original comment was silly. Whether they released exact numbers or not the watch is a successful product (albeit not meant for everyone). And the new version added features that made many people (myself included) pass on the first watch. But I'm likely to buy this as I'm sure millions of other are as well.
