I "was" excited to get the connected watch but sure heck did not want to have a $10 reminder every month that I did. I am sure glad I saw this article before I ordered tomorrow.

GPS Series 3 it is.

I personally love my prepaid $25 for 3 months LTE plan for my iPad, and have no clue why I'd ever pay $30 for the same time period for a watch that would utilize probably 1/10th of the monthly bandwidth, if not less; it's insane.

While a nice feature, there's no way to justify the cost. I'm sure in 6 months they'll have a variety of more nuanced plans when they realize no one's buying this gouging...

But will we be able to order the LTE watch tonight without adding a plan?

Like most everyone else, I don't think it's worth $10/month for the occasional times I might make a call without my iPhone nearby. And it's not like the watch can't make calls at all via wifi and BT. But what bothers me most is that the versions of non-LTE Watches are so limited. It's not like the iPads were every option has a cellular twin. There's no stainless steel versions and the band options on the sport are much less. I would get a stainless steal non-LTE if I could, but instead I'm getting the sports with one of the two band choices the offer. I'm still purchasing

T-Mobile's DIGITS feature has hitherto been incompatible with iMessage. They need to make clear whether this will be fixed for the watch implementation.
iMessage has nothing to do with Digits. iMessage works on any Apple device natively.

Digits can fork phone calls to the same number either via voice over data or voice over regular cellular voice call even when data is not available. Apple's "calling on other devices" feature works only as voice over data. Since Digits is involved in forking the call to the Apple Watch, it seems that the call will be a regular cellular call and not the iCloud-assisted "calling on other devices" voice over data call. However, iMessage is always iCloud assisted. Digits can fork a regular text message, though, bypassing iCloud. The combination of iMessage and Digits on the LTE Apple Watch will fork both iMessage and regular text messages to the Apple Watch.

It would be nice if Apple explained what sort of voice calling Is supported by the Apple Watch when it's connected via its LTE connection. The Wi-Fi version of the Apple Watch supports the iCloud-assisted "calling on other devices" even today with the iPhone being turned off.

T-Mobile isn't driving prices down, even with their current tactics. Instead they're betting on attracting quantity of customers by discounting, which is hurting their bottom line. They can't keep it up forever and at some point in the future they will be raising prices as they can't continue discounting forever if they hope to compete.

Actually, they can. Verizon can't survive too long in this environment, however-too much debt (interest rates go up, they'll never be able to borrow more affordably or refinance). That's why the cost is much higher, actually.

It sure sounds like we need a lot more clarification on this from the carriers besides the $10.00 a mo. A lot of unanswered questions.

If what you claim is true, Verizon wouldn't be printing money while T-Mobile is living on nonexistent returns in hope that some day they actually make money.

Sorry bro, but your analysis is simply totally incorrect.

I agree with most of the posters here. This is a clear money grab by the carriers.

Ironically, the one thing I wouldn't begrudge them charging for, the activation fee, is the one fee they're waiving (but what's $30 one time when you're in the subscription racquet). After activation, the watch is just an extension of your existing phone/plan/number. What a rip off.
Personally I think the activation fee is a scam. I was on iwireless that had no activation fee because you did everything yourself online. Verizon allows you to activate online without a person on the other end..

How long do you realistically think that the battery is going to last for all that? It's a WATCH.

Guy in 2007: You're going to use your phone for everything from browsing the internet and checking email to listening to your music? That's what laptops and iPods are for! How long do you realistically think the battery is going to last for all that? It's a PHONE.

Answer: I'm not going to spend the day staring at my Watch. That's the entire reason I'm thinking of not carrying a phone. So I don't stare at a screen all day. I'll raise my wrist to check on select notifications, change the song or ask Siri to remind me about something or send someone a message. I already use my Watch for most of that today and I end the day with 30% battery — on the Series 0. Improvements over the last 2 years have made the battery last even longer.

Called Verizon today about all of this...

Yes, it's true they'll waive the activation fee and the first 3 months of data accessibility fees SO LONG as...

1. The watch is ordered through their website/customer service

2. Unlimited data plans, such as mine, the monthly accessibility fee isn't $10, it's $20

When buying the watch, it doesn't have to be linked to a "stand-alone" status and can be used in the same way as the AW1/2s...but whats the point to replace an earlier model

So I'll still get the watch and see if there's added value like streaming while in the gym and leaving my phone at home. It can be turned off at anytime though I agree, pretty much, with all of the responses here.

I can accept the $10/month extra... Now... I have a Stainless Steel and Alumnimum Apple Watch that I would like to upgrade to S3 + LTE. Has anyone heard/confirmed if it’s $10/device attached to your line or $10/line to accommodate devices?

I can asssume with carrier greed, but $20/month when I can never use both watches at the same time will be frustrating.

A TMo rep today told me that it will be $22 total a month with the watch included. I'm assuming that means they are financing the Watch?

I missed the continuity thing but this was very helpful.

To fight against the BLOODY APPLE & CARRIERS, I would like to buy a credit-card-sized MIFI for GPS version of AW3, hahahahha

Well, $10 per month is too much for a connected smart watch accessory for my phone. If it was $5 I would be onboard. So I guess that my first Apple Watch will be the GPS model. Hopefully Apple is aware that carrier greed is holding this back.

I am seriously confused why connecting the watch should cost the same amount as my LTE enabled iPad.

I am not a sucker for the 3 free month and waived connection fees.

100% this. The one day a month I might not have my phone nearby does not justify the same cost as my iPad, which uses GB of data every month. I’d consider $5, I’d be onboard for $3.

I just pre-ordered my Apple Watch thru Verizon and it does look like they are charging $10/month on the older More Everything plans as well. Guess I will be cancelling my iPad line to keep my bill the same.

I can kind of see $10/month on the unlimited plans, but on accounts with data limits I think it is a bit much. Should have been $5 like it has been for Samsung and LG watches for a while now.

The LTE Apple Watch finally convinced me to want an Apple Watch, but if AT&T is going to make me switch from my grandfathered unlimited data plan, then I guess I'll just have to keep waiting.. :(
I was almost convinced today when I called AT&T about my grandfathered unlimited plan and adding the watch. Almost switched, but decided to stay and get the non-LTE Watch instead.

Verizon just told me it was not like adding an ipad = verizon won't just add it to a single phone line - so you have to get a worse phone plan (or a lot more expensive one) plus add on the $10 month fee to use the watch. I told them that was not going to happen and cancelled my order for the watch

Cool story bro. I'm glad you like to take in print articles of yesterday's news and spout it as facts that will perpetuate into the future. Two things:

1. T-Mobile is a terrible investment, true, but as a company, they're completely sustainable.
2. Verizon is a great investment until you actually analyze their balance sheet, which I understand almost no one who bothers to read investment articles actually does. It'll offer a great return-until it doesn't. A company that can print money wouldn't think about selling their landline divisions to pay for their ridiculous wireless acquisition. Their whole revenue scheme was dependent on escalating prices: Which hasn't, and won't, happen. While Verizon should survive (they have enough assets to sell), once a recession actually hits, they're on very shaky ground and will run out of the cheap money McAdam has been wasting.

Thanks for the info, I have unlimited and there is no way I'm paying $240.00 yr to Verizon for the Apple Watch w LTE. That is way too much. This is putting a bad taste in my mouth about the new Apple Watch.

Oddly enough, when i made the order, they gave me a $10 contract. Then with the 3 month waiver of no fees, it may be $90. Still too much. I'm just now noticing the activation fee but i'll get that reimbursed.

AND let me guess, those like me, the obstinate codgers with grandfathered plans won't be able to add an Apple Watch 3 to our plans.
[doublepost=1505481757][/doublepost]
This is really a bad deal.
399 initial price.
Plus $10*12 months = 120

520 all together for a year of ownership and 10 bucks for every additional month with not much to offer over series 2.

You can't call them greedy now, can you. HELL YES YOU CAN CALL THEM GREEDY!!!

Sorry but I am not paying another $10 p/m to AT&T. LTE is cool but the only reason would be nice to have is to stream music. I don't need to pick up phone calls while working out and most of the other times I have my iPhone anyway.
This should be free if you have already a plan with your carrier.
Also, I dislike a lot that red dot on the crow. Bad move IMO.

I agree. Charging the same thing as an iPad is ridiculous. I was leaning toward getting the watch, but this makes it much less attractive at this point. I was hoping Apple would negotiate the fee down.

I heard there were companies selling dots in other colors to cover up the clown nose.

Does anyone know if the shared number device has to pay taxes on top of the $10 a month?
That would make it $16 a month for me.
