Funny... In the past there were many screaming for a Watch built-incellular connection, but never considered the consequences.

And here we are today.

Do any of you that workout outdoors have a strap-on belt for your phones? I feel like these belts are amazing because I can run with the belt on and not even notice it's there. I keep other stuff inside my belt like Gu packs and my ID + insurance card when I'm running long distance so it has a multi-purpose use. For these reasons, I can run with my S2 AND my phone and have no qualms about wanting to upgrade to an S3 + LTE.

Yep, I currently use a running belt and put my iPhone 7 in there. I’ve been a Fitbit Charge 2 user until now and am looking forward to my AW3. I went for the LTE version because it would be nice to have the option to leave the phone behind, but I’m not sure whether I’ll activate it - not sure whether $10/month plus bigger hits to battery life on the AW are worth it just so I don’t have to run with the iPhone (not to mention the fact that I routinely listen to podcasts and audiobooks while running, and the AW still doesn’t support those things).

Waiting for the redesign. Current one is a bit boxy, if you will. Not really up to the level of premium watches.

That said, I would like to get one for the monitoring features. LTE not really interesting. If I'm an hour or two without internet connection, I think that sounds like it shouldn't be the end of the world. Quite the opposite in fact.
What is considered “up to the level of premium watches”? Since when is Apple Watch supposed to replace premium watches? Seems to me the target for Apple Watch is people who stopped wearing watches (or didn’t wear expensive watches) not the premium watch market.

Only if we quit putting words / intent in other people’s posts.

My comment was directed at multiple publications and people of both genders. Since you opened the can of worms on gender, my favorite tech commentators are all women, I think Serenity from iMore is well educated, speaks her mind and understands the tech. Molly Wood, yet another amazing woman in the world of tech.

So please, leave inference off the table.

Speaking of Serenity she has an article up that does a good job of explaining the issue. https://www.imore.com/how-your-apple-watch-connects-wi-fi-networks-when-away-your-iphone

I like Serenity because she knows her stuff but is able to make it easy to understand for the masses. I’m surprised Apple has never tried to hire her or Rene Ritchie.

I am gunning for the Stainless Steel model but they only have it in the Cellular version; I just hope it works seamlessly without activating LTE.

Btw i like the red crown:)

Is there a place on Macrumors to discuss Apple stock? Not sure if I should be getting worried. They need a major positive product announcement by year-end.
What are you talking about? The stock is down 2% today big deal. Plus Wall Street has never been rational when it comes to Apple so you’re either in it for them long term or you shouldn’t own Apple stock.

Well, they have 14 days to solve the issues. If not I’ll return it and keep using my older one

How about just the Series 3 without LTE? Most of the concerns are with the LTE.

True but if I can find a closeout Series 2 seems like a better value if they have the extreme clearance prices the 0 had. Most reviews are suggesting series 2 owners aren’t missing much if they don’t upgrade to 3. I’m assuming we’ll see lower 2 prices once the 3 ships in good numbers.

I agree 100%

While they tend to try to be diplomatic in any criticism of Apple, they also don’t hold back on voicing issues they see. I think it is a contributing factor as to why they get invited to so many events!

Esp. Ritchie, why pay for the milk when you can get it for free? He always sugar coats everything Apple. He does more for Apple pretending to be an independent journalist than if he was a paid Apple hack.

Why is Apple putting LTE in the watch when the battery tech isn't ready. This looks like Apple rushing a product out so they can say they were the first.
They aren’t first by a long shot (Samsung has done this for a while now) and I think experiences will vary for the 5 bad reviews I also read 5 great reviews of this feature.

Its 8GB out of which 4GB is for storing music, so plenty of space!
2GB I believe for 8GB watched and 8GB for 16GB watches (9to5Mac review)

There really isn't a whole lot to change, slot is fairly large, so it going to limit the options. And just like they haven't move to usb-c for phone side, they don't change this stuff more then every 5- 10 years. Just like they most likely want to get a few more years out of the lighting port before moving usb-c.
They could introduce new options, such as a larger display, or a round display that encloses the same square area inside of the regular Apple Watch display, or a wider display that is thinner or curves slightly to match the contour of the wrist. There are many options and iterations that I'm sure we'll get over the coming years and decades. Eventually it will change. When it comes to the iOS line, I don't think they've ever kept the same design more than three years, which is why I'm thinking it's possible next year. I also have to wonder if we'll get an Apple Watch X type device at some point that is a bit out there design-wise. Something like a display that wraps around the wrist. There will be some crazy innovations down the road a bit.

As for your comment at the end about Lightning vs. USB-C, Apple will never move to USB-C on iPhone. Why? Because it's a lot thicker than the Lightning port and is more fragile.

Well, sort of. A company like Apple (and AMZN, GOOGL for that matter) needs to show quarterly progress in some area to keep the momentum and keep up with the S&P and their peers. As we have seen in the past, a single iPhone release trip up can pause the stock for months while the market waits for something to cheer about. Meanwhile, other stocks march on. The days of blind buy and hold are done, and a great Apple bottom line is no longer enough to drive AAPL forward. Assuming stable overall market conditions, dead money = AAPL staying in the $150 to $165 range and RSI 50-ish for the next several months.

You might not like him because you don’t think he’s objective but I think he often times explains Apple’s thinking better than Apple does or at least is a better advocate than Apple leadership/PR.

To be fair Rene doesn’t criticize that much. I just think often times he’s better at framing the narrative and/or explaining Apple’s thinking than Apple is. Some people mock iMore for the things they choose to write about but I’ve sent many a family member or friend some of the guides Serenity publishes which they’ve found very helpful.

That is true. And I don’t dislike him, he’s just not where I would go for an impartial product review. He’s very much a fanboy. For “how to” iMore is great.

Don't care much for LTE, I always have my phone on me... it will be nice to care about the phone a little less at times I need to run out the house and still able to make calls in an emergency or if I need to contact someone, other than that I'm just happy for performance improvements coming from an S0 SS.

The only reason I have ordered the LTE model is because they don't offer a Stainless Steel non-LTE model :(

:( First the iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus pre-orders were underwhelming and now the Apple Watch 3 is awful?!

What is going on over at Apple & with Tim Cook??!!

Actually, most of the Apple Watch reviews I read were overwhelmingly positive, with many saying it’s the best smartwatch or the first smartwatch they’d recommend buying, but the media is hyper focused on the one WiFi issue and battery life complaints (while using LTE)... and they’re taking that out of context and now you’re seeing all those negative headlines... The media looooves negative headlines because it generates clicks.

I never suggested he’s the person to go to for impartial reviews. I suggested Apple should hire him!

Anyway as far as I’m concerned there is no place to go for impartial reviews as everyone has biases.

What I don’t get is, if a reviewer is made aware of an issue with a product they reviewed and are told the issues is being fixed why not pull their review or at least remove any kind of score or rating? The Verge score was 5/10 because they ran into the cellular issue. David Pogue over at Yahoo didn’t and rated it an 8/10. From the reviews I scanned those that did not encounter the cellular issue were more positive. This isn’t making excuses for Apple. They still get dinged for this issue even existing.

Apple Hardware design and innovation has been a disaster. Mac Pro and Macbooks were a fail. The upgrade cycles are longer and longer... Mac minis, Macbooks, iMacs.
It seems that Apple was focusing on iPhones and consumer gadgets. Although the idea of the Watch seems nice, again problems with design and the iPhone 8 is not much of an improvement over the iPhone 7.

In addition the presentation of the new iPhone by Phil Schiller was super boring, I almost fell asleep.

Mr. Cook, maybe it is time to fire the head of Hardware design??
How much longer do you need to wait??
What's wrong with the MacBook? I think it is a great design and it is selling well.
