I think for series 4 we might see one or more of the following:
2-3 day battery life
Thinner profile
Always-on display option
FaceTime camera (probably something relatively low-res)
Faster - supporting better graphics, animation and Siri functionality
Improved iPhone-independent app functionality (LTE-Kit API or something)

Totally agree.
Include more health data.

I would like to see a camera and display always on functions on the new series 4.

Also give us the real sapphire screen same as used in series 0. Heard that the sapphire screen is not as good in SS series 3 so I will skip this time.

Huh? Where on earth did you read that? A few anecdotal stories on the Internets?

I’d be choked if I had a pile of bands and a new case format meant they couldn’t be used on it. I think that is a very likelihood. Boy, the AW that changes format had better be re-inventing the wheel or face poor sales from the majority hanging on to the previous generation AW.

+1 A lot of people have more invested in their bands than their actual watch!! :)

When/if Apple changes the form factor enough that the connector won't support these bands, they'll have a pretty significant PR problem on their hands. :)

I think whenever possible, people should try to find spring connectors that match their watch finish...that way at least the strap portion is salvageable. :)

points 1 and 2 above will occur with a larger size: 60-80mm like those in fashion boss watches.
This will allow for a larger battery (higher capacity), more RAM and chips, etc.

point 3 - I still hope this is optional. Maybe greyscale for time/date/weather/1 or 2 complications that provide updated data every 2-30 mins (stocks comes to mind). Also most likely limited to specific watch faces at first. that is unless 5 day average battery life will occur across teh board.

point 4 - camera on your wrist? Not even Samsung was crazy enough to follow through beyond a protype back in 97 (they may have again but that didn't go so well back in 2015/2016). What kind of quality should we expect VGA resolution like the first camera phone that debuted with an add-on module (Ericsson T68m/Sony-Ericsson T68i)?? No.

Point 5 ... what exactly are you referring to for the watch to be independent on?
- mini app store?
- iMessage iCloud integration for real-time reflection of messages (iMessage, SMS, Text, MMS)?
- Apple Music local storage of songs favorited?
- W1 chip licensed to medical accessories (hospital medical appliances, weight/BMI scales, diabetic perosnal equipment, etc)? Oh yes!

My addition ... a heavily ruggardized version for the extreme sports or military officer.

PS: By version 8 we may see iOS directly on the Apple Watch by then.

Also completely bezel-less screeen. Not necessarily for more screen real estate but so when the screen is on you can have the background color or picture take up the whole thing with out a black border. I just think it would look nicer

I would highly suggest you visit the other Apple Watch threads for those who have used the stainless Apple Watch models with the Series 2 and Series 3, and others attesting to the resilience of the Sapphire. So I'm not sure what you mean by "Real sapphire", when Apple likely has not changed their process at all.

I doubt that we will see a s4 Apple Watch in 2018. s3 really fixed all of the remaining issues with the watch. It now has cellular support and is very responsive. People may argue that battery life could be improved, but I have been a user since s0, and don’t have a problem with the current battery life. I can’t think of anything that would persuade me to upgrade.

progress doesn’t just stop.
there will be an s4 and it will be faster with more ram for more complex applications.

apple isn’t just going to sit back and relax and say “well, we finished that product”

I want a non-LTE series 4 with the SAME hardware (such as ceramic back) with the LTE version. The current wifi S3 should've been S3c or something, to indicate that it has "lower" material spec (composite back) than the LTE S3.

Its weird, its just hard to think what else they could do to the watch in order to make it better. I doubt they will make it round now, however I do think it will head that way in the future if they can make it look nice, I know what Jonathan Ive said but I think it will be a "You don't need a smaller iPad" and "You don't want a larger iPhone" kind of situation. They just need the right technology to make it look nice and work well without it being super fat or big as the Moto 360 and the other competitors.
I think S4 will be the last refresh of the current design and it will include better sensors such as the new Fitbit's blood oxygen monitor, slightly better battery life and maybe they will get it together with some of the LTE issues such as lack of roaming and slightly better battery life on LTE.

Smart bands with smart connectors? Yeah, I can see it, but I'd say it will happen on S5 with a slight redesign and no older band support.

I look forward to seeing what Apple does with the Apple Watch in terms of redesign, which is alleged to be in 2018. I personally would like to see a larger display and redesigned interface, with more Watch faces.

I never said that Apple will not update the watch, I am not sure we will see an update in 2018. Most of the main issues have been fixed from the first gen release. Apple did not update the first gen for about a year and a half. If you think Apple updates products every year then go and speak to the people waiting for a new Mac mini.

Never going to happen. Have you any idea of how big a 80mm watch is? This is Arnold wearing a 65 mm U-Boat, which is the largest available size for a brand that is all about oversized watches. Even on him it looks huge.

You still have no argument. By your words we would still use the old CRT imac.

The most valid point for an S4 in 2018 is: Where the wearable is there is money to make.

There is no right or wrong here, just different points of view. You believe that Apple will update the watch next year, and thats fine. I am not sure they will. To be honest I hope they don't and refocus the engineering teams on other areas that development has been slow. More likely that we will see a whole new design in 2019, but thats just my opinion.

Thinner
similar case with larger screen, less bezels
independence from iPhone or at least option to attach to iPad instead

Have we had a new AW every year since release? It's very possible we won't see one until Q1 '19. The Apple Watch is in a very, very good position right - something which became abundantly clear when I switched from my S0 to S3 this month. Adding LTE (for some) and Apple Music, it's an absolute killer. Can't see what else needs doing.

Apple should spend the time looking into getting new bio-metric sensors into it, whilst keeping the form factor constant. Then update it when they've tracked that. Maybe they could introduce new 'smart bands' in 2018, like a band to check your blood pressure etc.

It is not perfect yet in my opinion (been wearing it since the launch day and I am on my 4th watch). It really needs sleep tracking. Sleep tracking is one of the 4 main things the Activity app features.

I've been using an app called 'pillow'. Only had it for a week, but find it works nicely with the health app.

Would like to see more support for external sensors without need to use the phone. Foot pods, temperature sensors, cadence sensors, power meters, etc. with the workout fields to match. Would also like to see visible evidence of GPS connection (software).

I use Heart Watch. Makes total sense out of Health data with a great dashboard. Also has a great watch app with sleep tracking that you can edit on the watch, with resultant stats on the phone app.

Damn! Ok then. I did say 60-80 (60 to 80mm).

After all it is rectangular in shape and Apple could make the Apple Watch 4 wider than taller almost as if the Hermes band was wide enough with their double loop. More information displayed and large battery.

Unless chips get much smaller than 6nm (TSMC is still a full year out from samples let along production), or significant industry changes in battery technology I don’t see LTE phone use improving and that is a HUGE sore spot for Apple.
