That's true! But I want an Apple Fitbit, with Apple design and quality, and with Apple Pay, the health/fitness sensors, basic notifications and maybe Siri.
Don't see that happening. Apple needs all the bells and whistles in an Apple Watch to justify its premium price tag. I doubt we will ever see them release a basic fitness tracker.

Exactly. Fitbit is trying to exit that market segment as well because they're being eaten both by the bottom (Xiaomi, etc.) and the top (Apple Watch). Hence Fitbit Versa and Ionic. They need their ASP to go up in order to survive.

Maybe, if you're very lucky, there will be external tricks for Watch battery life to go up, much like iPhone has battery cases. A band that contains a battery, for example. (Apple doesn't currently allow it, but maybe, someday.)

While Apple has patents for smart bands, I am not sure if they will allow it.

Right now, I believe watch bands are popular because there is no opportunity cost to swapping them out. They are purely cosmetic, so there is nothing stopping me from buying 7 different bands, and wearing a different one each day because all the benefits come from the watch itself. And these bands are basically pure profit for Apple.

Imagine if Apple were to release a band with some critical health-tracking function such as say, glucose-monitoring or extended battery life. Many people would buy that band, and pretty much stick with it henceforth. There would be no incentive to swap it out for another band that may look prettier but otherwise serve no other purpose. The customer should not have to make a conscious decision between aesthetics and functionality.

So while bands are theoretically a clever way of adding extra functionality to a watch, I don't see Apple releasing them.

But do they really? I doubt that. Considering that the Apple Watch is the *only* real smart watch that functions perfectly with iOS, I don’t think Apple needs to justify by including ‘every feature’ for the consumer to justify the price tag. Now, for the aluminum model, that’s much more affordable under the stainless model, which for those who want the stainless, really want the most aesthetic device and the Sapphire display, likely are not concerned as much with the price tag. But there’s a reason the Sport model is the most popular and most affordable, strictly because they all provide the _same_ experience with watchOS, it’s just a matter of choosing the aesthetics. So I’m not following your logic.

I definitely concur with the lower battery experience. My Series 3 consistently lasted for 2 days of general use, while I find my series 4 is definitely draining much faster than I am used to. Not enough to be a dealbreaker, but definitely a slight disappointment given how much I use the watch.

I kind of feel like my s4 has slightly worse battery life than my s3 did.
I've had it on for 5hr 49min, "usage" is 1hr (not sure how), and my battery is at 88%.

Also the other day something strange happened. I put my watch on a few minutes after taking it off the charger. It was at like 98%. Next time I looked just a couple minutes later, 97%. Next time a couple minutes later, 96%. I wasn't doing anything on the watch so not sure why it drained so quick. It's only done it that once that I've noticed- does the battery maybe just need to be calibrated- is that even a thing anymore?

Are you an athlete or a teacher in gym? For a regular person, he can't workout 2-3 hours a day, 7 days a week. He can't do it physically and he can't make out that much time.

No. I’m a software engineer / solutions architect. Consultant of the year for my company actually. And, Mr. Colorado (2012), ranked 7th nationally for Mens Physique. And, no, I never said I was a regular (average) person ...

So, yes, you can ...

I recently switched from a 42mm Series 3 (not LTE) to a 40mm Series 4 (non LTE) as I broke the Series 3. I'm finding the battery on the 4 to be not as good as the 3. Even after 15 months of use the 3 would last through the day with around 70 or so % remaining at the end of the day. I would ware it through the night and it would only require a 15 minute charge (while showering) most mornings. About every 5 day, I would need to charge it for longer (like over night).

With the 4 so far, I have had one glitch where it lost charge on the charger and dropped rapidly from 26% to 10% in minutes (while showing a charge symbol). It also got very hot during that time. Beyond that, it needs around an hour of charge time per day to get up to 100% over the 15 minutes needed on the 3.

I've lost faith that my 4 is not faulty after that weird glitch so I may return it and go back to the later 44mm.

Does anyone have any real world id if the larger watch returns longer battery life?

When I first got my S4 I was getting less battery life. After the first few weeks it seemed to go back to normal. In my case, I think I was just playing with my new toy more than my S3. Not sure how accurate this is for anyone else. Love my new Watch! The display alone was worth the upgrade.

I've had my S4 for about a month now and I'm getting about the same battery life as I had with my S3. I usually charge it every night but I've been able to get 2 days on a few occasions when I tested it out to see how far it could go.
