I can confirm this is still not working with 10.15.4 and WatchOS 6.2. Seems to work fine with MacBook but not iMac Pro using Series 5. The series 4 is no issue at all.

Hello,

Do we know what is the exact technical reason to allow only MBP 2013 and younger to have this functionality with the Apple Watch?

I've a 15" MBP 9.1 (mid-2012) and of course the unlocking functionality is not available. But when comparing the spec of an early 2013 retina 15" MBP they both have the same wifi card 802.11n and bluetooth 4.0.

The late 15" MBP has the 802.11ac.

Is there a tips to get this working on my 9.1 MBP from 2012?

Thanks

I TURN this feature off! I do not want to be in a situation where I fall asleep with the watch on and someone opens my sleeping laptop and is able to access it

Have you double check on Apple Watch WiFi defo on? Last week I was wondering why my iMac won’t get unlocked and restart does get it working but next unlock it failed again and restart again it work then next one failed again. Turn out WiFi on my Apple Watch was switched off somehow. No idea why cos it suppose be on and only 1 thing was different that I update Apple Watch os last week.

Progress made. The iPhone was connected to the 5GHz network whereas the Mac was connected to the 2.4Ghz network. I forced the iPhone on to the same 2.4Ghz network and re-turned on unlock with Apple Watch and it unlocked! Now to plug back in the ethernet...... yep still unlocks

Wow! My Watch hasn't unlocked my iMac for the last week or so. But I switched my iMac to my 5G network (it frequently defaults to the 2G network) and now it works! Thank you!

Have to have both wifi and bluetooth on for it to work, even though it only needs bluetooth. Anyone find that odd?

My Mac hates my 5Gghz network. It will connect but won't access the internet--or does so extremely slowly (like Dialup speed). Only works 100% on 2.4GHz.

Contrasts my HP laptop, which has similar issues with 2.4GHz but works fine on 5GHz, static IP or not. Doesn't quite make sense.

Even with this, I find it extremely unpredictable. When you have two users on the same iMac. each with an account, it is even more unpredictable. I often end up restarting our iMac. It lasts for a day or two and stops.

Mine has never worked from Series 1 to Series 4...no matter how current is the OS
