Apple Watch series 5 - what can we expect and when?

Is it worth getting the s4 or should I wait for the s5 to come out?

Worth is a very subjective word. If you want the Series 4 now, purchase it now. Unless you think you can wait, I’d say approximately six weeks or so, then you’ll know if there’s a new Series 5 debuting or not. By then, the Series 4 will be discounted if you’re not interested in what the Series 5 offers. So my opinion is to wait.

I read one online piece that said not to be surprised if there is only a new line of bands and no change to the watch itself. A display face store would be interesting news. If there is nothing new with the ver5 I would get a ver4 refurbished by Apple for a nice discount. This close to the presentation one might as well wait and see. The price of the ver4 can only drop more after the 5 is announced..

A price drop for the Series 4 would be inevitable anyways, because that’s traditionally what Apple does with tthey know announce newer products. The Series 5 will probably include some new features, possibly a new haptic engine/return of the ceramic casing, but nothing was ever _major_ expected to begin with when they just made significant changes last year with the Series 4.

The S4 was such an upgrade that I don't think we see a S5 until mid 2020. The way the S4's are still selling why would they release something else so soon.

This is exactly what I think. The only thing I could see them doing is some type of S-Version release while still calling it the 5. There is no way there is going to be a redesign of the watch this soon after the 4. The 4 is the best selling smartwatch by a mile and there isn't really a reason for Apple to do anything but keep selling it for a while.

If they do release a 5, I think it will be the exact same design as the 4, with an improved chip in it to increase battery life and maybe some brightness and speaker tweaks. Outside of that I don't think much else will change.

The only reason Apple would release a Series 5 in September, would strictly be for holiday sales. It’s not that they need to release a Series 5, because it could easily be released in spring 2020, but Apple is about maximizing profits, which the holidays are the biggest time of the year for net sales.

This. If there were any groundbreaking new features or designs it would have leaked by now. There will be a "cosmetic" update: new watchbands, maybe a minor processor update, new watch faces, maybe the red ring for the cellular version becomes a red dot again:D and i hope slightly improved battery life. The last point would be the only relevant one.

I really hope they use the same bands . . . I have about as much money in bands as I have in my watch!

I think they're reluctant to change the band specification for this reason. It puts people off buying a new watch as they lose their existing bands.

True. Not to mention how easily executed Apple created the band switching on the Apple Watch, it’s secure/reliable and takes less then 10 seconds to switch out to another band. It’s probably the most ‘fun feature’ about the Apple Watch, is the customization with the bands.

2019? Finally glucose monitor? if not - what else could we expect?

think twice about this (glucose monitor).. The only thing that is available is an application and the ability to read the dexcom G6. If you have the transmitter and the pads (about $4000 ) a year in cost you are set to go. But the watch does not do the testing.

Supposedly they're working on the tech, and a future version of the watch will have it, as well as blood pressure monitoring.
