Apple has not published a Support article for the Apple Watch 6 Technical Specifications, but when they do it will cover the various coatings (DLC, PVD) and materials (Sapphire, Ion X, composite) of each watch.

On second thought, it would make zero sense for Apple to remove the Sapphire on the stainless model. That’s the main separation away from the ‘Sport’ model. There would be no reason to upgrade to the stainless if it did not have the sapphire, which would be a poor business practice if Apple were to do that, which I suspect sapphire will still be included.

It's not about finding your watch. Its about telling other devices where exactly your watches is.

So when you go to open your front door, the opener knows your watch is EXACTLY 2 cms from the door handle and can unlock it as you reach for it.

Untill now smart locks had to make guesses when your going to open the door based on where you have been.
Also, wouldn’t it allow you to find your other devices by using the watch as well? I usually have my watch on, but it’s easy for me to misplace my phone somewhere.

This is what is listed:

  • Aluminum Apple Watch case—7000 series aluminum, Ion-X glass (strengthened glass), composite back (plastic)
  • Stainless Steel Apple Watch case—Stainless steel, sapphire crystal, ceramic back
  • Titanium Apple Watch case—Titanium, sapphire crystal, ceramic back
Hmm, I found this.... do you have a link to what you found?

A little disappointed that the new watch still can’t connect to 5Ghz WiFi.
it can. check connectivity here:

So surely a watch and an iPhone together (particularly if you have your arm outstretched) could triangulate the position of another device much more precisely?

It looks like the SS model has dropped by £50 in the UK for the 44mm S6 compared to the S5. Could it be that the saving is the removal of the sapphire front? That was the reason I went for the SS S5 over the aluminium and a year later it’s still scratch free. If the Sapphire has gone that’s a major loss in my books.

For me there's still no compelling reason to upgrade from my Apple Watch 4. Sure, there are some nice new features, but nothing MUST HAVE that would warrant spending several hundred pounds. Give me a watch where the battery lasts for 56 hours like the Samsung Watch 3 rather than the abysmally paltry "up to 18" that Apple have had for years and then we'll talk.

Since when has the aluminum version not had a sapphire crystal back? I’m petty sure my aluminum Apple Watch 3 has the sapphire crystal back.

Very nice, I expect the U1 chip to be useful for CarKey.
5GHz WiFi is nice but seriously, no .ax or .ac?! Is this 2008? C’mon Apple, I’m actually surprised they can source WiFi chips that don’t support .ac in 2020.

So it has U1, 5GHZ wifi, it keeps the sapphire and ceramic... blood oxygen, brighter display, faster (plus the benefits I skipped in series 5 which I’m assuming was just speed and always on? I don’t remember anything else different)

did they keep the 3D Touch or was it removed like rumoured 🧐

‘’I have the gold SS series 4. Which I got in gold for the XS max, then I got the midnight green 11 pro Max, this year I’m not sure what colour I’ll get but I’ve realized I don’t need my phone and watch to match, it’s better for accessories I wear to match it. I am going to get the series 6 (skipped 5 as always on was nice but meh needed more)

I just don’t know what colour to get (we don’t have stores to see them in person) I’m thinking of sticking with gold... but they also changed the gold to I think a lighter version which may look worse I’m not sure.

Dammit. They keep giving me reasons to buy it

I might be weak for this but that blue color was enough.... pretty sure the same thing sold me on the new iPad Air & iPhone 12 😂 I'm a sucker for beautiful blues lol - on a serious note I am very excited for the oxygen option, I love things like that.

So I know bringing this guy up anywhere near these forms gives some people spontaneous brain aneurysms but...

it's pretty obvious

iPad Pro will need U1 for AR. iPad and iPad Air doesn't have Lidar which makes them less capable AR machines so why would it need U1 (especially with them being more budget friendly devices)?

Apple Watch will eventually use U1 for CarKey passive unlock.

anyone that has a good feel with what Apple is doing can easily guess this.

the only exceptions from that list are homepod mini and apple tv. i would wonder the possibility since airdropping/airplaying content could benefit from U1, but not enough to warrant a full chip into these budget devices.

Yes, they removed Force Touch in watchOS 7.
