I’ll be able to take it to a repair place on the weekend and will post the results.

I’m better at taking apart Macs (I cobbled my first MacBook Air together with parts from a few different units) and can replace iPhone batteries but haven’t done a watch yet.
Great, thankfully got to reserve a spot for the AASP. I also am thrilled that you have experience doing common hardware repairs of iPhones and Macs like batteries, changing out memory cards and screens. Also bumped into my Apple fan friend this morning and he also has a friend who does these things a lot; taken apart lots of Mac minis as well. I have never done a repair before but I am very proficient with troubleshooting Apple products software and hardware (without cutting open the iPhone or iPad). Installed IPSWs, done hacks and also when people are unsure if their Apple device needs repair i make every effort to rule out the issue and inspect it if it needs attention from a professional or Genius from an Apple Store.

A diagnostic test for Apple Watch must be pushed out from the paired iPhone if it’s needed, but Apple diagnostics for watchOS is rare as the Apple Watch Series 7 and afterwards do not have a secret diagnostic port, which sits inside the bottom band slot.

Pre-clean the dishes? I just do a quick scrape with a fork and toss them in.

But I'll take a look for that kind of brush, thanks.

Look for 'vegetable brush', or similar . . . sometimes natural, but always a soft fiber (*not* the kind of bristle-brush you'd find near a commode).

They work well on fingers that have been working in the garden, also ;)

Following up with the case, @MacPoulet ! Had you got a chance to get the blue Apple Watch Series 6 checked out by the Apple tech at an AASP? It is the end of a long weekend!

Let me know how they diagnosed and replaced any parts of the Watch!

They weren’t able to do anything as their Apple Tech wasn’t in that day, so I need to go back. :(

So were they closed during the weekend or the technicians on site weren’t there? You can swing by again whenever they are available. Did they let you drop off the Watch or you have to wait for the Apple technician to get back?

They didn't want to take it without the Apple Tech being there. The tech department services both PC and Mac, and the store itself is actually part of a chain of pharmacies that sell just about everything.

I completely understand why the repair center didn't want to accept the Apple Watch without the Apple Tech being there. They don't want to be held liable if the watch is lost or stolen while in their possession. Please let us know when you return to the repair center!

I checked out the older threads on dead Apple Watches, but they didn't seem to have the same issue.

My partner's Apple Watch Series 6 just up and died yesterday, screen went out while she was wearing it. Tried a reboot, and then a forced reboot, no dice. Put it on the charger for a few hours, nothing. Left it overnight and came back to a still dead Apple Watch. I've since put it on my Apple Watch charger (the chargers are the same ones that came with the watches) and will leave it there for the day.

Are there any other steps I should take before I say this watch is done for? I'd take it to an Apple Store, but the closest one is 2.5 hours away, so that's not in the cards.

Thanks.
This happened to my SE a few weeks ago. It is in a coma now. Dont know the issue. No signs before.

Interesting. Does your phone see it at all? In our case, the phone knows the watch is there and wants to pair with it, but I can't because the screen is dead. I was able to send screenshots to the iPhone too, which is why I know it's the screen.

It did take a few days to get to that point. Have you tried keeping the Watch plugged in for a few days and see if the phone can find it?

The phone can’t see the watch.
I’ve tried to drain the battery completely (several weeks), and also to charge it again/plugged for several days.
No signs of life…

Hmm. Are you near an Apple Store or Certified Repair place? They may be able to do a more thorough diagnostic.

I had a Series 6 Apple Watch screen die earlier this year. Luckily because it was already a replacement for an older series 6 that I paid to have the battery replaced on it was still under a limited warranty, so Apple replaced it again free of charge. The screen flickered a few times before finally dying completely.

I guess you could always call and ask. I can't remember if my old place charged to look at a device. Mind you that was more than 20 years ago...
 stores do not charge for diagnostics. AASPs are not allowed to charge for diagnostics unless you are doing a hardware repair.

Ok - thanks
I’ll look into it.
Are you planning to get your Apple Watch SE serviced at an Apple Store or AASP? Look at Genius Bar reservation options here.

If your Apple Watch SE is a first generation model, you may be able to trade it in and get credit toward a Series 10 of your choosing. If you love going outdoors with your watch, you might want to go big and bold with the Ultra!

Wow - thank you !
Didn’t know that service.
I’ll try it next week.

Right now I’m trying to live without the watch…has been wearing it 24/7 for 4 years (charging while showering/cooking ) so it’s a bit scary to take a walk or do sport without it…Has been through a couple of operations and the watch helped me reach steps goals/HRV etc. so I guess I need another AW. On the other hand I must confess it’s liberating not to track…

But well - that’s another discussion.

I will try the Apple support.
Thank you

If a trade in is not feasible, then look for Black Friday deals on Apple Watch ⌚️. Walmart also sells stainless steel watches from Apple Watch Series 6 to 8 and natural titanium Apple Watch Ultra for the same price as your SE during doorbusters year round, and you can still get blood oxygen on them. I did the same when my seven year old Apple Watch Series 1 felt like it needed to be replaced after it only had 3-4 hours of battery life and the screen separated.

Quick update: I went to the Apple Authorized Service Provider. They don’t even look at the watch, it’s just sent back to Apple and a ”new” (refurbished) one comes in about ten days. Cost is $389 CDN which is about the same price as a brand new Series 9 from retailers that still have stock.

I’ll either get my partner the Series 9, or a Series 10 with the colour band she likes On Black Friday.
