I think apple clears the inventory and sells them to other places like Costco. Alternatively they keep some on hand as replacement units for people who brought Applecare.

Going from a Series 3 to a Series 8. And the only reason I'm doing that is because the Series 3 will not be supported by watchOS 9 lol.
It's not like your watch is going to stop working... What new feature in watchOS 9 are you wanting?

I'm on a s4 44mm and it's got a few scratches. I've been on the monthly apple care because I never remember to cancel it. Should I keep this one and replace the screen or look to picking up a s7 on a good deal? Wouldn't mind a slightly longer battery, quick charging, always on screen, and a bigger display. Are they faster too?

Because the always on is garbage. See I can have an opinion too. And I had the 6 and the 7.

Hermes Circulaire always-on is pretty, and I can actually see my next calandar appointment without looking awkward.

Especially if S8 is being released real soon from announcement. Prevents having no-hassle upgrade returns that happen, and now they can probably only be used for refurb sales or warranties, versus sold wholesale to other retailers.

I upgraded to the S7 from the S5 and I thought it was a worthwhile transition. I don’t expect the Series 8 to be a world changer but I do think the new “Pro” version might be interesting. I won’t be buying one, though, as I can’t see myself spending ~$1,000 on what is basically an accessory to the iPhone.

I have yet to buy an Apple Watch :p I always said I will wait until the Apple Watch 10 comes out and then I’ll buy. Couple more years I’m there.

Meh. I have a Series 4 that I don’t wear often anymore. It’s going to be the last Apple Watch I purchased.. don’t see the point in the watch honestly. Just double notifications.

my main point of use is silent vibrations on my wrist for notifications. I hate hearing phones ring or rattle on desks at work and no one knows I'm getting notifications but me

Same. I know a lot of folks that skipped the 7.
I did for a while. Then I found the a cellular nike series 7 with applecare for $248 on swappa. Sold my series 6 for 218. The $30+tax and paypal selling fees has been completely worth it.

Yeesh, so many people in here who honestly believe there is no meaningful difference between the series 4 and 7… ridiculous…

Even series 6 and 7 are hugely different experiences.
The same people saying there is no difference between the older models and the 7 are acting like the 47mm Pro will be a gigantic monstrosity. They will tell you with a straight face there is no noticeable difference between 42mm and 45mm but now going from 45mm to 47mm is going to be comically large.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s garbage, but it is kind of a “meh” for me. I went from an S4 to a closeout S5 when the S4 started being unreliable on runs (shutting down during runs) and then S7. I tried the AOD but ended up turning it off. All watches since my S0 have had the display on when I’m looking at them, and I really don’t care if it’s on when I’m not. The new S5 feature I did appreciate was the compass. I‘m not good with directions, and when viewing the map on the S4 it always took me a while to figure out which direction I was going in areas I wasn’t familiar with.

I never felt that 7 was a worthwhile upgrade so I skipped. This tells me this will be a worthy upgrade.

honestly id take it to mean the opposite.

Normally apple keeps a lower model as the 'budget' buy. so S3 for a long time.

If 8 was a big upgrade on 7 I could see them continuing to make 7 as the budget. However if 8 isnt a big upgrade then it doesnt make sense, why buy the 8? so lack of availability to me makes it seem like 8 wont be much better than 7 and so 7 is dropped.

Personally if you have S3 or below, any upgrade is huge. Curious to see what "pro" brings.

I have the Hermes S6, and still glad I bought it at the time. Never (re)realized how much always-on is valuable.
I had the 4 and had no plans to upgrade to the 5... until they said it was going to have the AOD. Battery life was a little rough, but still, AOD for the watch is a must-have.

My AW4 is still going strong for my use case w/battery at 91% .. Maybe I'll get the 8, depending on what it offers . . .
