I want to upgrade my S6, but truly can’t find a reason why the 8 is an “upgrade”. It seems a S7 with a different color. No changes. The prices should in fact be lower as there are no new features to keep the same price for 2 years old tech!.

So you have seen all the details already?

Haters be damned, I really like the always-on display my S7 has. I'd say that makes the S5 the most worthwhile upgrade the Watch line has had. Until they abolish the phrase "great all-day battery life" I'm not sure what else they can add to the Watch that will make it worth upgrading.

Unless they can make it so that when I'm listening to something while using the Workout app, and I swipe left to the audio controls, it says something besides "Not playing" even though it is. But that seems like something that can be fixed in software if Apple ever gets around to it.

The S7 wasn't really an upgrade over my S4. I plan to upgrade to the "Pro" depending on features and price point (and if it even exists...), but definitely would have waited until this year had I known there would be a bigger upgrade from the S4 this year. Oh well.
The battery on my 4 was starting to have reduced life and it was beginning to get sluggish. Went to the 7 with cellular the slightly larger screen was nice too. If the only difference is a “gen 1” temperature sensor I’ll be quite content.

Besides the aod and larger display. How are the 4 and 7 miles apart? It’s the same damn thing in a different shell.

Plus SpO2, twice the storage, U1 chip, barometric altimeter, improved optical heart sensor and finally with the Series 7 5Ghz wifi,

The 4 to 7 are completely different products.

That’s nice and all but does not really effect the basic usage of the Watch.

Edit I should say for me at least. I can see how for some those are big differences.

The larger screen alone is worth it, makes reading emails and texts far easier for a start as it's not only larger but more fits on the screen at once that goes for most apps as well, and the on-screen keyboard while not used often makes entering some text that siri loves to wrongly autocorrect far easier. So yes the new features do affect my basic usage of the watch on a daily basis.

But I'm one of those yearly upgraders anyway, have upgraded to every Series watch since the first and will be upgrading again in a few weeks.

Went to my local Apple Store, they have low Apple Watch stock and the associate told me to wait for the event, and they may get more stock (of the new thing) if there’s a new watch

What do you do with your old watches?

Yeah, and the chip in the S8 will be pretty much the same one as the one in your S6 and my S7. My S7 is my first Apple Watch and while it wasn’t the redesign I was hoping for (nor will the regular S8 be), I thought with the slightly larger display, it was probably still a good time to jump in for people who never owned an Apple Watch before. I love my midnight Apple Watch even if I don’t wear it as much as I thought I would.

Maybe it depends on the country but on my country's apple website looks like all or at least most models are plenty available still?
Not just that, which I confirm, but over the past few days I have seen Apple adverts proclaiming how the 7 is incredibly durable - showing it being hit by things, covered in mud, etc. (Can't find it online quickly.)
