Neither of which can be considered non-invasive since the sensor requires skin penetration.Old article, Freestyle Libre and Dexcom exist and proof that the technology is here and works. Now the question is if and when Apple can make the technique work on their watch.
It has been rumored for quite a while, but it comes down to a really high bar for building a critical medical measurement like this into a watch. They can say all they want "Informational only, don't act on this data," but if it goes into a watch people are going to rely on it, and I believe the FDA will regulate it as such. (And I hope they do.) This surely increases the technical challenges signficantly. That would be revolutionary for millions of people with diabetes. Don't believe it's coming that soon.
It doubt that this will show correct values. But correct values are essential for medical use and live values are interesting during sports. This is way more useful than just for diabetic people. Getting this metric for everyone can diagnostic a lot of depression, anxiety and health problem
People buying. Sorted! They need to get their SPO2 sensor sorted first.
Apple is likely already working with several companies under NDAs and will simply buy the front runner to keep the technology out of the hands of Google/SamsungThis is years away from actually working, and it won't be Apple creating the technology.
Struggling to work out how a non-invasive BGM would work… even the current non-invasive Continuous Glucose Monitoring systems aren’t strictly non-invasive (Freestyle Libre, Dexcom) and if there’s something out there that isn’t, I’d imagine it really would be cost prohibitive. I know what my Libre costs, and it’s not exactly cheap.
Saying that, I’d take a fruit Watch with CGM if it turned up!
The use for non-diabetics depends on how accurate it is.This is way more useful than just for diabetic people. Getting this metric for everyone can diagnostic a lot of depression, anxiety and health problem
I'm sure they've already sponsored research discrediting the technology.Grain and sugar industries will not make it easy for the FDA to facilitate widespread glucose awareness in gen-pop.
