Apple is again in its own league...with the latest ipads/iphone 13 series that are rock solid from performance, build, battery life, with the latest apple silicon macs..and now with the apple watch...

That would be revolutionary for millions of people with diabetes. Don't believe it's coming that soon.
It has been rumored for quite a while, but it comes down to a really high bar for building a critical medical measurement like this into a watch. They can say all they want "Informational only, don't act on this data," but if it goes into a watch people are going to rely on it, and I believe the FDA will regulate it as such. (And I hope they do.) This surely increases the technical challenges signficantly.

This is way more useful than just for diabetic people. Getting this metric for everyone can diagnostic a lot of depression, anxiety and health problem
It doubt that this will show correct values. But correct values are essential for medical use and live values are interesting during sports.

Remember blood oxygen monitoring? I have never seen this feature delivering correct values.

But it'll be welcome if it works. At the moment Apple fails to get embedded TouchID working ...

Struggling to work out how a non-invasive BGM would work… even the current non-invasive Continuous Glucose Monitoring systems aren’t strictly non-invasive (Freestyle Libre, Dexcom) and if there’s something out there that isn’t, I’d imagine it really would be cost prohibitive. I know what my Libre costs, and it’s not exactly cheap.

Saying that, I’d take a fruit Watch with CGM if it turned up!

If this sensor works well enough to make it into the Apple Watch next year, a lot of people worked wonders. If it's included it will likely be for tracking trends in blood glucose rather than having 99% accurate values (made up percent).

The rumors of blood glucose monitoring in Apple Watch has been going on for years. There's a reason it's not here yet. My wife has one of the "newest and most high-tec" insulin pumps on the market(that's been approved in Norway). It has a needle inside her for blood glucose monitoring and she still has to "calibrate" with a regular "needle in the finger"-machine 2-3 times a day. Doing this non-obtrusive on a watch will most likely be highly inaccurate, especially in the beginning.

The use for non-diabetics depends on how accurate it is.
The range of values you see in a "well-controlled" T1D is way outside of what you would ever expect to see in a healthy person. Compare 2hr after a meal a range of 90-110 for a typical person with an easily achievable 200+. The measure could be very crude and yet life-changing for the safety and health of a T1D. Not to mention this seems to be non-invasive and non-consumable which is a big QoL and non-trivial money saver vs using finger pricks w/ test strips 3+ times a day.

This would be the equivalent of viable cold fusion on a wristwatch. I mean, major kudos to Apple if they could pull it off, it would be the biggest thing they came up with since the iPhone.

The applications in health care in a clinical setting for geriatric or ICU patients would be incredibly impactful on health and health care costs. It would be a commendable re investment of their corporate wealth into the health of humanity. I wish them all the luck in the world with it.

I seriously doubt the technology is anywhere near ready for day to day use in the next 5 years. The resources Apple has to invest in R&D and to attract talent is on a Stark Industries or early 20th century DuPont (without the DuPont evil) level so if anyone can pull it off, it's these guys.

If it happens, I'll be BEYOND impressed and elated. I'm not a diabetic (My glucose was a little high on my last round of blood work, but cutting out bags of flavor mash up Skittles. The Tropical ones are so damn awesome, I mean better than anything, and I let 'em go)

Diabetes is a brutal disease, anything that can help people better manage it is a step forward for the human condition.

I doubt this will make it into Watch 8. There's a difference betwen "developing" and producing. To make it into Watch 8, they'd have to be mass producing now. <<...Apple and its suppliers have begun working on....>> With the amount of lead time they need to put out a product, I doubt it...

This will be a game changer for millions of people, even if reliable glucose meters are available from many manufacturers. Let's wait. Crossed (stinged) fingers

If you need it, this is great! However, at what point is Apple just creating a bunch of brand new hypochondriacs, constantly obsessing over health metrics that don’t need to be constantly monitored unless you have an issue?
