How much battery you really want to get out of such a tiny package? It already lasts all day. The ultra lasts multiple days. What needs to happen is that certain processes need to perform better, so that they don't drain the battery as much. That's part of what a performance update is all about.
I would like to see the same battery life that I used to get in my Fitbit (multi-day...up to 5 days) with full time heart rate monitoring. I really miss that. (FYI: I jumped ship when Google took over Fitbit. I don't trust them).

You could do what I do. I keep my old Apple Watch when I buy a new one. I sleep with the old one, and switch to the new one in the daytime. So I get 24 hours charging and use. I never run low on battery. For me it’s way better than a Fitbit… 😉

This rumour is quite disappointing as I am planning to upgrade my 4 year old Series 5 this year. If the only real upgrade is the performance of the chip, I may just buy a discounted Series 8. It quite wild that since the Series 4, there has been just very small changes over the years. It does make keeping the watch longer, a more easy approach.

If you really want a new watch, I'd wait for the series X next year. That's going to be the big anniversary update, possibly with a redesign (though hopefully they will keep compatibility with existing bands). I agree that Apple has been very iterative with the Watch since Series 5.

I would do that if I thought it would be a £419 watch, but I have a feeling Apple is going to release that model as a special edition and it will more likely be a £700-£900 stainless steel piece. I can't justify that much in my own mind for a smartwatch. I am looking around now at Series 8 stainless watches and hopefully a sensible one will pop up.

I think Series 6 was a bigger update than Series 5. I can’t call it iterative.
