Crazy that people still think Apple artificially create stock shortages. They really have no clue what it takes to manufacture and ship so many complex items in such a short time.

Well looks like I won't be getting one anytime soon. I need to see them in person and try on a few before making my decision.

In the mean time, Meh dot com is selling a smart watch for $15 today. So I ordered that and I bet I have it before April 24!

Lack of stock does not indicate strong demand...
I agree. I bought one so obviously I want to see it do well. But this means nothing without numbers. They could've sold 100,000 or 2 million for all we know. Seems like stock was super low, and like this was rushed to market IMHO.

But this does make a nice headline.

June is just fine for the space grey sport... I'd rather wait then paymore for a first gen product...

----------

So you have a $600 watch on your wrist, an $850 phone in your pocket ... thieves will notice you're worth a lot of money walking down the street...

just sayin'

This definitely isn't an indicator of wealth man... Its an indicator of priority...

More silly BS after every Apple product launch. MacRumors 101.

Your reply also same MR 101. Just as tiring.

At least their comments added something to the discussion. And feasible that Apple would want to generate demand. Your Reply, trolling in my books.

I agree that its in Apple's interest to generate Demand for such a new product, and well played by Apple.

IMO, this is a test run of limited production to see what sells. Either that or they were not ready to launch.

People that think Apple is limiting supply to create perceived demand are dummies. That does nothing but irritate customers and lose revenue. Many consumers don't like preordering and won't order if there isn't supply available. Even if Apple did do that, they wouldn't be pushing orders back to August. I don't know how any reasonable person thinks this is an intentional restriction.

Two things. How did something sell out by 9:00 AM Pacific when this article was posted at 6:00 AM Pacific?

Also, is it truly not possible to order the sport in silver with a black band?

I think there's a typo with the time, I'll pass it on to the editors.

The watch model is correct though as it says "38mm Stainless Steel Apple Watch with Black Classic Buckle".

I have no doubt in my mind this has only sold out for one of two reasons.

1) They've got very low stock for the launch.

2) They're holding back stock to make it look like the demand is higher than it really is.

This watch will be moderately successful, but it's not going to be the hit Apple hopes it will be. I know dozens of people who own iPhones and iPads. I know 1 person who wants an Apple Watch.

I'm not a watch wearer and this version had nothing to get me to want to start wearing one.

When Apple releases one similar to the Galaxy S watch, where a cellular phone is actually built into the watch, then I'll bite. Seriously, imagine Facetime video on your watch - no phone needed. Dick efffffin Tracy :D

Perhaps they did sell out. After all, Apple isn't stupid, and this whole watch news is attracting attention to all of the Apple products.

I like the idea of changing the design whatever way you like, maybe we see some cool wrist bands for it.

You don’t really believe that.
Tim Crook is supposed to be a supply chain genius, on top of that  have all sorts of anal-ysts that will try and predict demand. They know how many they will likely be able to sell, they didn’t make enough. They know that, and knew that.

Keep demand up by restricting supply, it’s 101 as suggested.

Yup and some of us have thousand dollar shoes along with 200 dollar jeans too. But you can't walk around living in fear.

You do know that designer shoes cost 500+ dollars.
Designer suit 2000+ dollars.
Designer shirt 150+ dollars.
And this watch actually does something, it's not just looking pretty.

UK order shipping date

So will I get it on April 24 do you think? Even if it is May 5, that is only one month away! :)

I am so flipping pissed that I stayed up to buy one and fell asleep at 2:00 AM ET and woke up at 4 AM ET. LOL. 1 hour late.

I did order a black sport, but of course got the 4-6 weeks time frame.

I should have been more specific and said, "Two unrelated things". My second thing was just a question about the sport model in silver. On the pre-order it does not appear to even be an option with a black band. Not that shipping is delayed, you just can't even order it. The black band only appears to be offered with space grey. Is that true?

I know a lot of people who didn't think it would sell at all because of the price. I just told them my Fitbit cost $100 and it is just a pedometer and a program to measure my walking/sleeping and I had to put in my diet myself. I knew the Sport would do well, as for the rest, well, we all love expensive toys but only a few can afford them. I've seen woman spend $500 on a bag or a pair of shoes and a lot of 'Man Toys' are very expensive.

Hate to see what they will cost on Ebay soon.

I doubt they truly sold out. Its more likely Apple is holding back supply to create demand.

I guess you believe we never landed on the moon and that the evolution theory is crap too. If something doesn't fit your way of thinking there must be a conspiracy.

We keep hearing this BS after every launch. Guess some people will never learn. It doesn't matter if there were millions of units sold. Some people will just find their way of spinning it.

He is a genius to get as many done as he does!

This definitely isn't an indicator of wealth man... Its an indicator of priority...

Speaking only for myself as a not wealthy single dad, this was announced months ago and once I paid bills, bought groceries, kept my growing child in fitting clothes, etc. I chose to tuck away a few dollars a week to buy myself the extremely rare "something nice for myself."

I think my priorities are okay.

I did. Order the silver with white and an extra black band.

Apple has officially sold out of Apple Watch stock to be delivered within the April 24 launch day timeframe, as shipping times for all models have slipped to 4-6 weeks or later less than 6 hours after pre-orders started at 12:01 AM Pacific today.

The 38mm classic leather is still showing available for 24/4 delivery, on the UK store.
