No. People like to believe that, but it is nonsense. Apple generates its own publicity, it needs no additional help with games like you suggest. And you can't sell what you don't have. Apple knows they lose more by not having stock for quick shipment than they gain by any stock manipulation nonsense.

The same thing usually happens with iPhones.

So basically that guy failed Marketing 101.

Apple doesn't sell all its production.

Lets say Apple can make 5 million watches by April 21st to arrive to your door by April 24th and to retail stores that day too.

They probably reserve about 1 million for the stores, so people can buy one day one. Remember, Apple has a lot of stores and they each want more than a handful of each style.

This is why it seems they sell out of pre orders so quickly.

You don’t really believe that.
Tim Crook is supposed to be a supply chain genius, on top of that  have all sorts of anal-ysts that will try and predict demand. They know how many they will likely be able to sell, they didn’t make enough. They know that, and knew that.

Keep demand up by restricting supply, it’s 101 as suggested.

Or maybe parts, like the rare Sapphire screens, make the watch hard to mass produce, limiting stock.

Occam's razor.

So you have a $600 watch on your wrist, an $850 phone in your pocket ... thieves will notice you're worth a lot of money walking down the street...

just sayin'

My watches I am wearing are worth more and I am not scared. Heck even some of my shoes are worth more than the cheapest Apple watch. And I am not rich. Just saying...

So i am confused. I see people posting they were happy to get order in time for april 24th delivery so did people actually get emails saying april 24th delivery or has everyone really just got the 4/24 - 5/8 and assume they will get it april 24th?

Yup and some of us have thousand dollar shoes along with 200 dollar jeans too. But you can't walk around living in fear.

Where I’m from I’m guessing thieves are less interested in second hand shoes and jeans, whatever brand they are.
Having the shoes doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll have the jeans nearby too. The shoes are not deemed a companion device to my jeans, capeesh?

Here is to Apple producing the Milanese Loop in black! I bet that will happen, just not while the watch is so hot on the market. They want to sell those SS models in great quantity. A black milanese loop on the space grey would look just fine! It looks nice with the AL version now.

Which configuration did you get?

I wasn't even going to order one, but it was our anniversary and my wife decided to order one for me. She stayed up until 3AM EST to put in an order as soon as the Apple web site came back up, and her order for a 42mm sport watch with the black band said 4-6 weeks delivery time. It's hard to believe all of those for April 24th. delivery sold out quicker than she could click through the site to order one!

I'm so pleased I managed to get mine straight away for April 24th Delivery!

Or maybe parts, like the rare Sapphire screens, make the watch hard to mass produce, limiting stock.

Occam's razor.

But my point still stands. If you are a supply chain genius you will know what your yield is likely to be an can, (if you so choose), account for it.

We're assuming that we'll have them by launch. Since it's standard shipping that date could be there to make up for delivery times, but I imagined that most of us with that date will have them on the 24th.

I don't really understand what draws so many people to this forum just to post anything from sarcastic hate thru angry get off my lawn fist shaking.

I especially don't understand why so many are desperately hoping and predicting a flop for this product.

If Apple do well with this, they will raise lots of money to help them make Apple products you do want to buy. No one is making anyone buy the Apple Watch.

Just because YOU don't want one, doesn't mean that the next person who does want one is an idiot.

People watch NASCAR for the car crashes. People slow down going past a wreck to look. Does that explain it for you?

We won't know anything about the sales performance for at least a week after shipping and we note the return rate.

Fixed.

Have Apple actually got any stock other than retail models? Given this is a new product line are they reviewing real interest to ensure this does not become a flop by Apples standards.

They could easily produce low volumes of watches in the next 14 days and quality check these in time for shipping by the 24th.

Anything that is in stock should be available for immediate despatch. I received confirmation of my Mac Pro shipping within 18 hours of placing the order.

Truth is we dont know and never will

What I find crazy is Apple has the launch date for the watch April 24th, yet none of us that ordered the watch has a guaranteed date of April 24th.

Apple once again underestimates the demand of a new product. Expect millions to be pre-ordered during the first weekend.

So basically that guy failed Marketing 101.

Do you realize how many negative articles would be generated if there was a bunch of extra stock lying around the day after launch? They are a victim of their own success.

That being said, i think we won't know the actual sales performance for a month or so. So we should all just wait and see.

I doubt they truly sold out. Its more likely Apple is holding back supply to create demand.

Always love this nonsensical statement about the new iPhone. Apple constrains the supply to create demand and still ends up shipping more phones every launch.

Yes. I liked the white but prefer the black for work and fitness. So I got the silver sport with white and a backup black band. X 2. One for me and one for the significant other.

So you have to pay extra to pair the silver sport model with a black band?

But my point still stands. If you are a supply chain genius you will know what your yield is likely to be an can, (if you so choose), account for it.

Even a "supply chain genius" has no control over a product's popularity. Apple made as many as the manufacturers could produce, they didn't "hold back". If fewer people want it, they will have enough. If more want it, then there will be backorders. Its completely out of control of Apple.

lol.... I guess people wanted one

This would be like "Apple accepting orders" then the next second "opps... sold out sucker ...better luck next time."

They should of done more.
